Review: St Ives Whipped Silk Advanced Body Moisturizer

    Posted by Tine | October 16, 2007

The first time I tried St Ives’ Whipped Silk Advanced Body Moisturizer, it was like a revelation. “Oh my, I can’t believe I have never tried this!”. The 59ml tube of body lotion which I have was a gift-with-purchase item. I’m normally not too thrilled about body lotions as the free gift as I’m very particular about body lotions.

St Ives Whipped Silk Advanced Body Moisturizer

My criteria for choosing body lotions – they have to be light, non-greasy, and most importantly, they have to smell good (subtle scent, not overbearing). A lot of the body lotions I get are pretty rubbish. But the Whipped Silk … aahhh, I think I’ve found my holy grail of body lotions. Why? Because I actually bought another bottle of it. And I have never bought more than a bottle of the same body lotion after it is finished.

    Yeah, I’m picky like that.

    Description:

An indulgent moisture formulated with Hydrolyzed Silk proteins that leave skin silky soft, not greasy. Treat our skin to a whole new level of luxury and softness.

    • Specially formulated with Hydrolyzed Silk Protein to provide intense moisture without a heavy, greasy feel
    • Specially formulated with Moistureguard™, a patented blend that continuously binds moisture to the skin by forming an invisible barrier to prevent moisture loss.
    • Dermatologist Tested
    • Hypo-allergenic

When I first applied the lotion on my arm, I noticed that the lotion was non-greasy, and was very quickly absorbed into the skin. That’s a very good thumbs-up from me, as I hate greasy lotions. The thing I love most about the Whipped Silk body lotion is the smell! It’s simply heavenly. It has a very subtle, lightly floral fragrance, and really, I just couldn’t stop smelling my arm after application!

    Check out the star-shaped dispenser.

    Star-shaped dispenser

This is one that gives the “whipped” effect to the lotion. How cute :p

A thing to note about the Whipped Silk body lotion though. As it is very light, multiple applications may be required. This is good for summer temperatures, but it will not be sufficient for cold and dry winters (you’ll need a more heavy-duty one for that). As the lotion is so light and quickly-absorbed, there are some which may think that the lotion is not effective. Well, it worked for me; the scaly skin on my legs have significantly improved, and is a lot smoother and softer now. Good enough for me :)

This 59ml tube retails at RM6.90 and the 354ml bottle retails at RM15.90 at all St Ives counters.

What I like about this: Light, non-greasy, and I absolutely LOVE the scent!

What I did not like about this: On the contrary, this is too light for cold and dry weathers.

Yum! I’ve always been a fan of the Whipped Silk lotion. Love the pretty smell too!

I believe I went through at least 5 of the big bottles before I went off to the US and had to get something thicker for the dry weather.

there used to be two variants of whipped silk! now they discontinued the other one already. :(

i used to use whipped silk a loooong time ago, but now i’ve switched to palmer’s cocoa butter because i need the vit. e to fade some scars on my legs….recently i bought the st ives collagen and elastic tube lotion and ever since then, i’ve been thinking of going back to st ives…because of the great fragrance and light texture!! hehehehe

soon soon soon! :D being a girl is great :P

I LURVEEEEEEEE this purple flavor to bits. I don’t quite fancy the pink one though. And, i love the shape of the lotion when i u squeeze it out from the bottle! It looks like the muruku :D :D but i do agree with you that the moisturizing effect is too little for our country

oh ya..any recommendations for a lotion with SPF for day use? my arms are getting so tan because of all the driving i do! also must be non greasy one! thx!

Jessie: Hehe, aww go ahead, not that expensive anyway ;)

Leisha: Hahaha, yeah I know what you mean. I read about 20 beauty blogs a day, and my beauty purchase have since doubled :p

The Faux Fashionista: Yay, another fan! Yeah, definitely need something thicker for the cold and dry weather though. This is not enough.

Entwined: Ooh really? I had no idea there were two!

To be fair, Palmer’s cocoa butter work better with very dry skin, compared to this. This one’s a lot lighter. I’ve tried St Ives’ collagen lotion too. Didn’t really like the smell, although my skin did feel real soft after use.

      Hear! Hear! :p

Prettybeautiful: There’s a pink one? Which one’s that?

Lingzie: Yay, a convert! :p So glad you found something good ;)

Ahhh … I do have a recommendation for non-greasy body SPF; I shall do a review on it very soon! :)

This product might be worth a look too – Skin MD Natural in the UK . It’s a shielding lotion which uses some new skin care technology (whatever that means!) to moisturize 6 times more effectively than the standard glycerin based moisturizers. As a shielding lotion it keeps the chemical irritants out too. It looks pretty good.

Hi Tine, I’m a fellow reader and I’ve been using Whipped Silk for ages! Love everythin about it, so much so that I’m hunting high and low for this baby! I couldn’t find it in Malaysia anymore (saddest mode ever) and was just wondering do they sell it in Aussie still? (can’t u see that I’m such a desperado now??) Thanks!

    13. Tine September 27, 2009 6:03 pm

Jess: I love it too! :) And yes, it’s still available here (it’s not in M’sia anymore? Aww that sucks!). I still see it at Priceline. They sell only the big bottle with the pump.

    14. Jess September 30, 2009 1:31 am

Hi Tine..they do have it still? Oh god..how i wish I could transport meself there n get em..It sucks big time here coz all those Guardian/Watsons personnel would give the all-too-familiar-typical M’sian answer: Tak tau *smoke outta my ears*
Do u do any sales via ur blog coz I’d love to get my hands on those babies….

    15. Tine September 30, 2009 8:19 pm

Jess: I could get it for you from here, but shipping is just ridiculous. Don’t think you’d fancy paying the cost of a bottle just on shipping now, would you? :P UNLESS you really want one of course. I don’t sell anything on my blog, but I don’t mind getting one for you.
      Let me know, yeah?

Btw, I tried replying you via the email you left when you commented, but I keep getting it bounced back. Said that it was rejected by recipient domain. Hmm …

    16. Jess October 1, 2009 12:26 am

Hi Tine! How much is the shipping anyway? My email’s gone bonkers and rejected my password! Try emailing to this email k..? We’ll be in touch ya..:)
