Holiday Shopping Haul, Part 5: Sephora

Note: This is a picture-heavy post. Please click on the images to enlarge.

Now I’ve never been to Sephora, but I sure have heard a lot of about the store, and surfing the online store on Sephora.com sure has whet my appetite to a whole new level. So when Tim and I made the decision to go to the US for a holiday, Sephora was a MUST-GO stop.

Sephora 1

When my aunt brought me to Macy’s at Westfield Oakbridge Mall, we also had a look around the mall. Lo and behold, we saw a Sephora store in the mall. It was pretty small, but as I stepped into the store, it was as if I died and went to makeup heaven.

Sephora 2

What was so interesting about Sephora stores was that they allow you to play with as much makeup as you’d like. There were disposable makeup applicators, mascara wands, sponges, facial cotton, cotton swabs and tissues at the side of each makeup aisle. You could literally walk into any of their stores with a clean and bare face, and come out all fully made up! Now how fun is that?

It took all the self-control I could muster to not blow our bank account away at Sephora, because there were just so many things I wanted to buy. Cosmetics, makeup brushes and tools, skincare products, etc … all that I’ve read on beauty blogs which were not available in Australia and Malaysia were suddenly easily available to me. I had to really narrow my shopping list down to the items I really wanted.

My first haul from Sephora:

Sephora First Haul

Sephora First Haul 2

NARS blush in Dolce Vita (I wanted to get more NARS eyeshadow duos, but seeing that I’ve already bought so much eyeshadows, I had to give that a miss. It wasn’t easy, I tell you, putting them back onto the shelf)
Make Up For Ever Super Matte Loose Powder (always wanted to try this; it’s much cheaper in the US)
Blinc Kiss Me mascara
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (duh :p)

Sephora First Haul Samples

I was surprised to find out that Sephora’s pretty stingy with samples. When the cashier rang up my purchases, I asked if I could get a sample or two of the Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer, she gave me one miserable tiny sachet. I only received the other free sample just because my purchases amounted to over USD100. That’s pretty pathetic really, when shopping on Sephora.com would get your three free samples with every order. You only qualify for free shipping on orders over USD50, but really, it’s easy to go over that amount. If you buy in the store, you only get ONE free sample, and you only get that if your purchases are over USD100. It’s funny, isn’t it? Might as well just see what you want in store, and then buy ’em online!

It’s nothing to get me really worked up about, but just something I wanted to let off my chest :p

Anyhoos. I went to Sephora again at Las Vegas, and walked out with some more stuff. I couldn’t help it! Bad Sephora, bad Sephora. No no, scratch that. Bad Tine, bad Tine!

My second haul from Sephora:

Sephora Second Haul

Smashbox Best of Sephora Beauty Kit (yes, you can tell I have become a Smashbox fan :p)
Sephora bronzer brush #48
Rosebud Strawberry lip balm
Sephora lip gloss

Best of Smashbox Beauty Kit from Sephora

The stuff from the Best of Smashbox kit

Since these items totalled to over USD100, I received another free sample. This time, it was a small jar of Benefit’s Doctor Feelgood.

There ya go, my Sephora haul. It irks me even more that we don’t have one here. But then again, everything would be ridiculously overpriced, so there won’t really be a point to having one now, would it? Sigh.

Do stay tuned to my last post (aww no more!) where I’ll show you the bags I bought in the US 😉

I have died and gone to makeup heaven just by looking at your photos! I would definitely go there bare faced and play with all the makeup!!

I don’t like it about their stingy samples though, I would feel bad for spending so much and getting only those samples but hell!!! You got a lot of stuffs girl!!! I can’t wait to see your bags!!!!

  3. beetrice

oh dang…Sephora is definitely a must-go place (psst!! you’re actually not supposed to take photos inside the shop!*wink*)

over USD100?? you SURE you didn’t empty out the bank account while you were there?? (poor poor Tim..no wonder he had to go back to work so soon afterwards!heehee…)

    Plue:
Oh yeah, I went nuts there all right. But still managed to control what I wanted to get. And how difficult that was!

    Askmewhats:
That was so fun, playing with makeup there. The makeup artists could help you out as well. Yeah, I’m not all that happy with the stingy amount of samples either. I mean, you pay so much for stuff, and you only get so little 🙁 Just seems better to order what you want from Sephora on their website.

    Beetrice:
Tee hee, I didn’t know I wasn’t allowed to take photos in Sephora until I was paying for my items. One of the sales assistants came up to me and told me I wasn’t allowed to take pictures in the store. By then, I’ve already taken as much as I wanted 😉

Nope, not at all. Aiya, you see the stuff I bought, so little nia :p

Nice loot! And good thing we’re having a Sephora here ourselves. 😉

I was also suprised at your pics. Anyway, I usually take pics quietly too. 😉

    Sesame:
I had an inkling I wouldn’t be allowed to take photographs in the store. But I wanted to show those of y’all who has never been to Sephora what the store’s like, so for *ahem* research sake, I turned the flash off, and just snapped and snapped. Also have to act like a dumb tourist who doesn’t know anything 😀

    Sigh….
With every shopping haul post that you do, I’ve turned even greener with envy.
I’ve never stepped into Sephora, or gone to the US in recent times, as a matter of fact, so I’m glad you took those heavenly pics!!!
The US seems to be pretty stingy with samples aren’t they? Hmm…I guess better off buying online…more samples! Even in Aust, they’re quite stingy with samples. Sigh….

  8. Syen

    *Screams*!!!

Droool.. makeup heaven!!! =) Great haul, Tine!

omg… the vast collection of makeup and beauty products is just too much!

Coincidentally I happen to be selling my used MUFE Super Matte Loose Powder in #10 Translucent White as I just got hold of #12 Translucent Natural when you mentioned that you bought it XD

    Indulgent Diva:
Well, the next one’s the last of it, so no more :p It’s weird, isn’t it, that they’re stingy with samples? I’ve never bought any of the higher-end skincare items in Australia (too expensive; better to get them off Strawberrynet), so I don’t know about their policy with samples. But even in Priceline, I get samples sometimes. I reckon it depends on the sales assistant of the day. Some are nice, some can’t be arsed.

    Syen:
Hee hee, my friend got me hooked on Smashbox!

    Prettybeautiful:
I shall hope that you strike lottery too 😛

    PS: Me too me too!!

    Stephanie/Yukaeshi:
No more, there’ll be no more! *sniff sniff*

Hee hee, hope you enjoy the loose powder 😉
