Changing to WordPress

by Tine on October 30, 2008

My apologies if you haven’t been able to access this site for a while. I’ve finally changed to a proper web host, and upgraded to WordPress. After almost four years on Blogger, I reckon it was high time for a change. However, I am very new to WordPress, and have so much to learn. Many thanks to Edrei, who walked me through the entire process.

So please forgive how crappy the site looks at the moment. I’m currently learning to familiarise myself with the WordPress dashboard, widgets and whatnots. It is incredibly different from Blogger, and may I say, a lot more complicated. With time, I’m sure I’ll pick it up.

I should be back real soon. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that I don’t go nuts with this. ‘Cos I might.

Hey Tine, I have been trying to do the same but not sure how to go about it. Currently my blog’s hosted on blogspot but I am sick and tired of blogspot and thinking of moving to wordpress. Are you on bluehost? Initially when I opened your site I thought I mistyped the web address because I was expecting to see your purple banner on top. Is it true that we lose our subscribers and traffic when we switch to a different platform?

Paris: I don’t know about that. So far, I’m still learning, and to tell you the truth, it’s frustrating. I miss my old layout and everything. But I’m sure it takes time, and soon, I should be able to appreciate it :)

Nikki: You and me, luv. I’m not used to it either. But the pros use it, so might as well step up ;)

Leon: Oh dear I am sorry that you expected the purple banner. You have no idea how much I miss it. But time to move on. I’m currently using Lunarpages (www.lunarpages.com). The basic plan is pretty good. About traffic and subscribers, yep, my feedburner count as gone way down, and so have the traffic. I hope it picks up soon. Oh, and thanks for the compliments on the site. I’m still in the midst of tweaking it :)

Oh, and thanks for the purple theme! You are such a star :D

Oh anytime Tine:-) I thought you would like it because it looks similar to your previous theme, it was very beautiful. I am sure it was custom made, wasn’t it?

Hey Tine, just wondering how you imported your images, does wordpress import images and comments along with the blog posts?

Leon: Yep, the previous theme was custom-made. Spent quite a bit of time on that too. I’ve always preferred custom making my themes so that it doesn’t look like everybody else’s. Right now, probably hundreds of people have the same theme as mine ;)

As for the importing of images, yep, when I logged on to my Wordpress admin, I went to the option where I imported my entire blog from Blogger. This means that the images (I hosted mine on Photobucket, and I will continue to do so), comments, etc gets imported as well. So far, I haven’t lost anything :)

Hey Tine, finally I managed to move to wordpress. My blog is in a big mess now because I am still trying to figure out how to post and modify the side bar tabs.
