Review: CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara

There was a lot of hoo-ha about this mascara when it was first launched. The huge brush simply screamed volume, and the tiny bristles promised clump-free lashes. I’ve read many good reviews on it, and when it was finally launched at Priceline, I grabbed one (the waterproof version), just before my holiday.

Unfortunately, this did not work for me. Not at all. I’m afraid I have to say that this does not work for Asian eyes (please let me know if any of my Asian readers who have tried this actually liked it, yeah?). The brush is simply too big to accommodate our short eye lashes. I don’t have very short Asian eye lashes, but they’re not long either. When I tried this on, I had to be very careful not to smudge my face, simply because the brush was so big.

Many a time, when applying the mascara, I did smudge my skin. And I really hate this from mascaras, especially after I’ve done up my face and still have to be very careful in removing the smudge without creating a hole in the foundation.

So nope, I didn’t like this mascara at all. As the brush was freakin’ huge, it did not curl nor volumnise my lashes at all. I’d be better off sticking to mascaras with smaller, normal brushes. Plus the tube is huge compared to other mascaras, thus taking up valuable space in my makeup bag. To those with short Asian eye lashes, I’d suggest you to give this one a miss.

Lash Blast? More like lash blah to me. Who wants to take it off my hands? It’s yours for free :p Just make sure you have eye lashes that go on for miles. If you do, I hate you. Okay I don’t *fingers crossed behind my back*.

Cover Girl’s Lash Blast mascara retails at AUD17.95 and is available at Priceline.

What I like about it: As a mascara on the whole, it’s okay, I guess.

What I did not like about it: Massive tube, massive brush for my Asian lashes. Sigh.

So I am going to stay away from this no?

  2. Connie

Thanks for the review, Tine! I had contemplated many times to pick this up and now I can finally scratch it off my list. I hate big brushes! I’m horrifyingly messy when it comes to applying mascara as it is.

  3. MisSmall

I haven’t tried it personally (not a big fan of CG to start with), but a lot of Asian Youtubers raved about this mascara in their makeup tutorials. Maybe it takes a little getting used to?

I have similar bad experience with this product. So did Makeup For Life. I only Asian blogger have been raving about this is perhaps Ricebunny. But then again, she’s got super long lashes.

Not only is this mascara difficult to apply, it was all flaky and clumpy upon first application. As if it is a 3 month old mascara. Weird huh!

  5. Askmewhats

I have this, and reminded me to use this more often and do a review on this soon! LOL I’ve been neglecting this because the wand is HUGE! LOL I’m sorry we are born with short lashes! 🙁

  6. acsmvtak

I would love to try this mascara. I dont mean to brag, but i do have long eyelashes for an asian chinese.

LOL this mascara is definitely not for me then, short stumpy lashes that I have.

    *sighs*

I’ve been thinking of picking this one up too but seeing your review makes me think twice. I have long eyelashes but…that huge brush does turn me off a bit. I love the thick brush on BB’s Everything Mascara but it doesn’t seem as thick as this one. Hmm…to try or not to try…

oooooo maxfactor aqua lash! love that stuff, except it doesnt lengthen must (at all..) hahha. but its great 😀 and loveeeeee it when priceline has buy 2 for $19.95. oh why oh why is makeup so expensive here…. bt with the aussie dollar i guess its not so bad now…

    BUT STILL!!
    😀
hehehe, i’d love to read a review on the aqua lash though hahha, just to see how you like it 😛

I actually do love this mascara. I got it on a trip to US. I think the brush is nice, and the formula makes my lashes look like there are more lashes, thus it is more lush, rather than looking like individual lashes are thickened…or something like that. My lashes are medium length.

i agree with u, big brush is very hard to work with asian lashes. life sux with tiny lashes 🙁

    Constant Drama:
Unless you have to-die-for lashes, which I have a feeling you do *grumble* :p

    Connie:
Yeah same here. I bought it ‘cos the big brush intrigued me. And then I realised I bit off more than I can chew :p

    MisSmall:
Wow really? It’s good that it worked for them. I’m too clumsy to handle a big brush, I guess 🙁

    Val:
Mine wasn’t clumpy or flaky, but for some reason I just can’t seem to work the brush. It’s just me. The mascara tends to smudge the sides. Oh yeah, that Ricebunny sure has long lashes *green with envy*

    Askmewhats:
I know, right? Sigh, the plight of Asian eyes. Teeny tiny lashes. Ish.

    Acsmvtak:
Good for you! And of course I’m jealous 😉

    Kahani:
    Join the club, babes :p

    Indulgent Diva:
Stick to the smaller ones lah if they work for you. Save money. Hee hee!

    Helly:
Ahh the Aqua Lash is good! I shall do a review on it soon. Now that one, I can rave about 🙂

    Jo:
I’m glad it worked out for you 🙂

    Prettybeautiful:
Yeah I know 🙁 But I guess if you can work the brush, it should be all right. I’m just hopeless at it.

  13. Amy

I used this mascara and I hated it. I am asian and it does not work on my eye lashes. I do have long eye lashes, but it didn’t work. It’s a waste of my money. TO ALL ASIAN GIRLS DO NOT PURCHASED COVERGIRL LAST BLAST MASCARA, BECAUSE IT DOES NOT WORK ON ASIAN EYE LASHES.

  14. Adrianna

I’m Asian American but I don’t have super-short lashes. They’re actually longer than average Caucasian lashes, should I say. And if I heat the eyelash curler, they curl pretty easily. Will this mascara work for me then? I’m really in need of a new volumizing mascara=P

  15. jessica

I’ve been using cover girl’s lash blast mascara in waterproof! I too am asian and have really long lashes and I love the results it gave me…it was very volumizing! BUT… I’ve been using it for about 6 months now…and I’ve noticed my lashes have been getting shorter and thinner!!!! DO NOT USE THIS!!!! I don’t know what happened but over time my lashes have diminished!!!!

  16. Carolyn Regan

I bought cover girl lash blast 24 hr.
The package had a brush with a cap and separately, a cylindrical container with the product inside. I assume.
When I went to apply I could not figure out how to use it. The brush is way too large for the practically nonexistent pinhole opening.
    Help!

  17. Bonnie

This is my holy grail mascara. My eyelashes are medium length (I’m Asian, btw), but this mascara holds curl like nobody’s business. And it’s also incredibly waterproof. I played soccer in the rain with this baby on. Did not run down by face. I definitely love this product.
