Question: Which Makeup Item Did You Regret Buying?

TGIF, ladies! How’s the week been treating you? Looking forward to the weekend? I know I am. I’m looking forward to a movie, or maybe just hang out at IKEA (oh yeah, I could spend all day there). I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed for good weather.

No poll for today, but here’s a question for you. Amongst all the makeup that you have, which item did you regret buying? I’m sure we all have our makeup regrets once in a while.

I actually have quite a lot of purchase regrets (talk about throwing money away, huh?), but I’ll just state one for now. Mine would be the CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara.

The brush is simply too big, and whenever I tried applying it on my lashes, the huge brush ended up smudging the lids. ‘Tis a pity, because I’ve read good reviews about this mascara. I guess this is more catered to those with big eyes and long lashes. Or maybe just with a much steadier hand.

I don’t know if anyone would want to take this off my hands. I’ve actually only used it twice (I gave it another chance, but failed). Sigh. What a waste.

What’s your makeup purchase mistake and why? Are you still using it, or have you given it away/chucked it? Would love to know I’m not the only one who’s made bad choices once in a while 🙂

Have a good weekend for now!

Hmm..what I regret buying? Let me think…MAC Studio fix liquid foundation in NC30!!! and the MAC Studio Fix powder in NC35, all the local MAC SAs gave me the wrong shade! I finally found my shade and I’m NC20! Can you believe that? hahahha 🙂

Gotta be the two TBS lip blooms that i got last year!! They were soo horribly drying that i don’t bother using them anymore 🙁

First, I agree about Lash Blast. Tried it. Hated it. Put it in The Drawer Where Makeup Goes to Die. But my biggest regret, hands down, is foundation, base, mineral base, and tinted moisturizers– all in the wrong shade. Oh, we tell ourselves we can mix the one that makes us look like a cadaver with the one that looks like war paint, but the truth is, that’s usually just another shade of Not Quite Right. This even happens when I have “an expert” colormatch me. I must have mood-skin (like those mood rings we wore in the 70’s) that changes color in my bathroom where I actually apply makeup. So maybe it’s actually mood-skin that I regret most! 😉

Boy have I made alot of purchase mistakes too. I am a big fan of MAC, there’s no doubt about it. The most regretful purchase Ive ever made (and expensive too for a woman who only depend on monthly allowances *sigh*) was MAC’s Mineralise Powder, yep i bought not only the Foundation but also the Powder (during their Barbie promo) ..cost me an arm & a leg ..worse this is where I will vouch for Nikki’s comment they gave me the wrong shade but made it sound convincing that it was .. it was a tad dark for my skintone. Eventually I bought another Mineralised Powder in Natural tone and this was chosen by the MAC SA, i felt it was too light for my skin and again HE said its not and its the right color ..when I tried it, I had a strange feeling that its not the color for me ..i could ‘feel’ how light my skin was (if you know what i mean) again I felt ripped off and I was angry with myself and told myself to stick to what I am compatible with and that was MAC Pressed Powder. But then I decided to buy experiment their 2 way cake after hearing about its coverage and this one I admit IS my fault thinking with confidence thats the shade as per my MAC Pressed Powder but little do I know it was a wee bit lighter even if my Pressed Powder was that shade *sigh* another hundred ringgit plus down the drain so now in my make up bag there are 2 Face Powder that I will never use..ive given my foundation to my younger sister since it fits her skintone (lucky lass!) I dont even know what to do about those two now. I bet its gone its shelf date by now so I can only just throw it and give the cases back for recycling instead. I dont want to look back at my mistakes again but Ive learnt my lesson! I know at MAC there are 2 SAs that seem to know my skin tone shade ..one is at Midvalley and the other is at Lot 10 unless they’re being rotated again.

Gosh I apologise for my length comment 😀

hmmm eyeko eyeshadow palette in sexy eyes. The packaging was soooo pretty but the shadows aren’t pigmented at all and the texture’s flaky. *sighs*

  15. Shay

Dejavu Fiberwig tiny mascara (can’t rem the name exactly). The wand is very small supposedly to catch the tiniest lash. The bristles are so far apart! Gives me clumps from the chunks of mascara trap in between of the hairs of the bristles.

Korean skincare. They suck and gave me breakouts. From TFS to SF.

man… I have so many regrets but I almost never throw my cosmetics away. For my more recent purchases, I’d say Rimmel Duo Eyeshadow. Pretty colors but just crappy quality. icks.

  17. MisSmall

Givenchy eyeshadows. Love the packaging, hate the product!

Hi Tine, have been visiting Melbourne too much, too many friends there for a quiet-mend the tired soul trip too. I’ll visit when I’m in a better mood and look you up? 😀

I think for me I totally regret the stuff I bought recently (in December) from Bobbi Brown. I bought 2 palettes and 1 lip gloss which I feel are totally wrong for me. I shouldn’t have bought them!

  19. fabulessbeauty

I’m sorry that you didn’t like this mascara! I tried the Luxe version, and love the look it gave me – even though there was no shimmer =(

  20. stickles

Hmm, MAC Mineralize eye shadows. I love the blushes and the skinfinish face powders, but these shadows are just so blahhhh. The product itself is so pretty, but I never get much color payoff or a smooth texture when I apply these.

Lash Blast mascara, like a few more people have mentioned, was pretty disappointing for me, but the worst product by far that I have ever tried is Covergirl Clean foundation. I bought this as a replacement for Covergirl’s sadly discontinued line of ‘Pure’ foundation, which was a great foundation for me: really smooth, lightweight, matched my fair, cool skin tone perfectly. I used the lightest shade in that foundation, so I went with the lightest shade of the ‘Clean’ line. It dried an orangey/browny and way too warm for my skin. It got cakey and always looked fake no matter how much I blended. Also, the SMELL of the it was GROSS. It smelled like rotting cinnamon, and if I applied too close to my eyes it actually made them sting! No joke. This is by far the most horrible thing I have ever put on my face and I would not recommend this to anyone unless they plan on using it as a form of torture.
