When’s The Best Time to Apply Body Moisturiser?

Body Lotions

For many years, I’ve been doing a lousy job at applying body moisturisers. The problem with applying body lotion before I sleep is that I always forget to do so. I’d be too doggone lazy to pick up the jar of body moisturiser, telling myself “Ah well, I’ll do it tomorrow”. Hence the horrid, dry, snake-like skin on my legs 🙁

Do you know that the best time to apply body moisturiser is right after your shower, once you’ve towelled yourself off? By applying your body lotion right after your shower, when your skin is still moist, it helps to lock in the moisture from the water into your skin.

Just to make sure I remember to do so, instead of putting my body lotion/cream in the room, on my dresser, I left it in the bathroom instead. Right on the counter top near the basin where I can see it, in my line of sight when I come out of the shower. This way, I make sure that I HAVE to put it on before the clothes. I started doing that a year ago, and now it has become a part of my religious skincare routine.

Thanks to the new routine, my skin has improved significantly, and I’m proud to say, no more scaly skin for me 😀

Do give it a go, and see if it works for you too.

Good luck!

ooh… I need to try that. I get lazy very quickly. I only apply lotion when I’m too bored -_- but my toilet’s very wet.. can I put lotions in there anyway?

I apply moisturisers right after shower too, if and when I remember. Since I’m lazy enough to skip putting moisturisers on my face, I guess my body shouldn’t really complain much. 😛

    Agreed! :]

Yup agree! That’s exactly what I do, plus another dollop before I sleep if my skin is feeling real dry. I’m moisturizer compulsive.

I am one person who should RELIGIOUSLY apply moisturizer, thanks for the tip, I am just too lazy most of the time! hehehe

im a lotion addict! (but also get lazy sometimes hehehe)

i read that, the best time to apply body lotion is about 10 mins after shower, not sure how true it is though. having lotion around religiously, i am happy to report that i dont suffer dry skin on other areas 😀 face is the exception 😛

    O the whipped silk!

I love the whipped silk shower cream to bits! But I don’t see it in Singapore anymore.

oh please please do not store your lotion in the bathroom! it tends to get spoiled faster, due to the humidity etc. i store mine right outside the bathroom, so when i walk out , i slab it on straight away

I put my lotions on right after i shower too! But like you, i get lazy sometimes, hence the scaly skin on my legs… yikes! 😛

Aha… I’d read about this over and over and I never do it *bad me!* I think I need to do as you do and leave the moisturiser in the bathroom – but does it spoil it though? You know how it is here – humid + hot bathroom steamy air…

*raises hand guiltily* I, myself, admit that I tend to be lazy applying lotion on my body hence I, too, have dry snake-like skin on my legs *sobs* I’m just plain plain lazy to apply and keep procastinating telling myself ‘Do it tomorrow ..’ But i agree the best time to apply lotion is right after we shower and with the many range of lotions i should be spoiled for choice. Me thinks its high time i hit the shop again and buy a bottle 😀
    Thanks for the reminder hehe

Just to address some concerns about leaving the body lotion/cream in the bathroom – I’m afraid I forgot about the humidity in Malaysia when I mentioned putting the lotion/cream in the bathroom. Ooops, my bad.

What you can do it to put the lotion in the drawer (if you have one) in the bathroom. Or when you want to take a shower, bring the lotion in with you and then take it out with you after you’ve had your shower. Either way, always keep the jar/tube tightly shut. My St Ives Whipped Silk body lotion comes in a pump bottle, so what I do is I decant that into a tube where I can keep it tightly shut. This way I have no problems with the lotion going bad, even with the steam from the showers (and also showers from my husband and the housemate).

What you can do is to tell yourself that you’re not going to get dressed if you don’t have your lotion on. Psyche yourself to make it a habit. Once you get that down to a routine, it’s not going to feel right putting on your clothes without lotion on. I feel really weird, quite naked without it on, when I get dressed! 😛

I didn’t do it after shower only until awhile back. I used to slather before I sleep. Then recently I read that it’s good to do it before you sleep cos the warmth in the bed will help with the lotion penetration too.
