Review: Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara

by Tine on April 7, 2009

THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS FOR PARTICIPATING!

A week ago, Kristen, who works with Maybelline, very kindly sent me a few samples of Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto mascara to review. Here it goes. Stick around, the end gets interesting.

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara Poster

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara Close Up

Description:

The only mascara that does for lashes what stilettos do for legs.
The Grip & Extend brush grasps each lash and coats from every angle
Elastic formula stretches lashes for provocative length
Pro-Vitamin B-5 formula conditions and smoothes for black-patent shine
Contact lens safe and Ophthalmologist tested

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara

The shape of the mascara’s very cute; it’s shaped like a stiletto heel!

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara Wand

The mascara wand is, I have to say, probably the longest I’ve ever used. It didn’t give me any clumpy lashes or any mess on the sides of the eyes. In fact, I was impressed at the length of the lashes it produced.

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara On Opened Eyes

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara On Closed Eyes

The mascara gave me the length, but not the volume. For the latter, I’d very much prefer Majolica Majorca’s Lash Enamel Glamour Neo. I reckon this mascara would do very well for those with a full set of short eyelashes (not with sparse hairs). If you don’t need the volume, but want your lashes to go one forever, this should do the trick.

The staying power of the mascara is, sadly, rather mediocre. I had it on for 9 hours, and when I got home, the stiffness of the lashes had significantly subsided. However, if you want it on for less than that amount of time (e.g. 3-4 hours), then you should be able to maintain the length sufficiently.

Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto mascara is not out in Australia yet. In the US, this retails at around US$6, which is cheap as chips. You can read more reviews on the mascara on Makeupalley.

What I like about it: Gave me va-va-voom length, no clumps and no mess.

What I do not like about it: Not available in Australia; not enough staying power

And now for the interesting part of the review – I’ve got a Lash Stiletto mascara to give away! This giveaway is open to all readers (yep, international readers too. Just ‘cos I’m nice like that :P ). Just answer the question below in the comments, and you’re in!

“What’s the best mascara you’ve ever used, and why?”

Winners will be picked at random. The giveaway deadline is April 21, and I’ll contact and post the winner on April 22. And knowing me, you won’t be getting just the mascara; I’ll even throw in a goodie or two (or three!) as well.

Good luck!

PS: This giveaway is not the surprise ;)

Fiberwig Tiny Sniper mascara! Lengthens all my short lashes and is a breeze to remove!

yl April 7, 2009 at 3:49 pm

covergirl lashblast waterproof. holds curl and volumises well, which is what i look for in a mascara :)

Nikki April 7, 2009 at 4:00 pm

I would say the best mascara I’ve used is Maybelline’s Unstoppable Shiny Black Mascara :D

Jessie April 7, 2009 at 4:42 pm

I want to try this! Malaysia tak da. The best I’ve used is Maybelline Lash Discovery, smaller wand head fits my small eyes…

vivian April 7, 2009 at 4:49 pm

I absolutely adore Maybelline’s Full n’ Soft! I look for a natural everyday look (because, it’s what we use most often) with a bit of a oomph, and Full n’ Soft matched my lashes (Uber short with volume)–and most people’s–perfectly!

What’s the best mascara you’ve ever used, and why

The best mascara i’ve ever used is ELF WaterProof Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara because its cheap only USD3.00 and after conversion its about RM11+ It work wonders for my lashes inspite being reasonable. And it doesn’t burn a hole in my pocket

Diana April 7, 2009 at 7:04 pm

The best mascara I’ve ever used is maybelline’s sky high curves. It works well with my lashes and I (almost) always managed to work my lashes with its light, slim wand.

Connie April 7, 2009 at 7:14 pm

Thanks for the review. I’m still not opening my Lash Stiletto yet! But at least I’d know what to expect.

Jess April 7, 2009 at 8:53 pm

The absolutely best mascara that I’ve ever used is Maybelline’s Unstoppable Curly Extension Mascara(in black). It gives me these awesomely lengthen lashes that goes on for miles and best part is, it gives my lashes that volume at the base…i look like one of those mascara model now, thanks to it!

“What’s the best mascara you’ve ever used, and why?”

The best mascara I’ve ever used is Maybelline’s Volum’ Express Hypercurl Waterproof Mascara (Very Black) because it gives volume which makes your set of lashes the fullest you’ll ever know without the clumps, length that seems as if it’ll win a marathon, and helps keep curls sky high. With this baby, sometimes, if you are in a rush, you may even skip separating your lashes with a comb or a spoolie!

eliza April 7, 2009 at 10:07 pm

the best i have used so far is the Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamor Neo XD
love the comb for it gives me better control and it made my lashes longer ^0^

ps. lol i thought this was the surprise ^^

Helly April 7, 2009 at 11:04 pm

i dont want to enter this contest because its most probably non-waterproof which will flatten my curl! haha, but anyways, my fav. is MJ Lash expander (I’ve tried both the first and second one). It NEVER smudges, always holds a curl, doesn’t clump and makes my lashes sooooo long!! Its honestly, as cliché as it sounds, every girls dream mascara!

George April 8, 2009 at 12:14 am

My favourite mascara I’ve tried is probably MAC’s Zoom lash. I feel like it really thickens and lengthens my lashes. My second favourite was something Neutrogena had that was supposed to be very natural. It gave my lashes some super length, and I loved it.

vina April 8, 2009 at 12:38 am

“What’s the best mascara you’ve ever used, and why

the best mascara that i have used has to be the lash power curling mascara..its gives me evrything that i want from a mascara..long(length),curled,dark and long lasting lashes..

Jasmine April 8, 2009 at 1:12 am

The best (read: favourite) mascara I’ve tried is Fasio’s power-stay mascara 3D+ curl volume! What a mouthful, hahaha. What I really like about it is how it delivers its promises — it really stays on for the entire day, doesn’t weigh my lashes down, holds a curl effortlessly, and gives volume. It doesn’t flake either, and if there’s anything I don’t like, I find that it makes my lashes look too fake because they’re so thick now! Hahaha!

Leanne C April 8, 2009 at 1:44 am

My best mascara so far would be a simple and affordable Maybelline Great Lash Curved Brush. I don’t really use mascara often and when I use it, I love how it is not exaggerated, not too bold, just simple and plain, yet brings out your mascara a lil.
Other mascaras either clumps or making my eyes look fake (too long and not hold enough). Plus, I love that it is easily available at drugstore and inexpensive!

Magz April 8, 2009 at 1:47 am

What’s the best mascara you’ve ever used, and why

Maybelline’s Vol. Express Hypercurl Waterproof Mascara (Very Black). Is the best mascara I’ve ever used. Simply because it gives me the volume I always wanted and craves for. Also, its waterproof formula seem to help to hold up my curls pretty well, and I don’t need to worry about looking like a panda whenever it rains if I’m caught outside, or if I cry whenever I watch some sappy movie.

jamaica April 8, 2009 at 2:13 am

The best mascara i’ve ever used so far would be Maybelline Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara because it lasts me all day even after i perspire from working out. it also gives me enough volume and length plus it could be removed easily with oil.

jan April 8, 2009 at 2:16 am

Mine is definitely Majolica Majorca’s Lash Enamel/Expander – I love both.
The mascara leaves my lashes curled the whole day and yay for being waterproof! I love its comb cos it defines my lashes unlike any other mascara I’ve tried. I don’t have much difficulty removing it and I’ve been recommending it to everyone I know! And cos I buy in bulk whenever I/friends/family go to Taiwan, I can afford to sell my friends at cost price just to get them to try it!
I lovvvveeeee Majolica Majorca for their mascaras.

Joyce April 8, 2009 at 2:17 am

Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour NEO

reasonably priced, lengthens and volumises my lashes, lasts all day long that I don’t have to worry about it coming off, and holds a curl well due to its waterproof formula

ying April 8, 2009 at 2:19 am

The best mascara i have ever used is MAYBELLINE LASH DISCOVERY MINIBRUSH MASCARA! its so easy to apply with the small wand, and the mascara really lengthens my lashes and it doesn’t clump my lashes at all! did i mention it doesn’t smudge all over my eye area by the end of the day but at the same time can be removed easily! love it.

gio April 8, 2009 at 2:27 am

The best mascara I’ve ever used is Pupa Ultraflex cos it gives my lashes lots of lenght and volume and holds a curl.

ponikuta April 8, 2009 at 3:22 am

Majolica Majorca’s Lash Enamel Glamour Neo is my fav mascara of all time and you would know exactly why. The lengthening, the volume and the none clumpiness beat hands down to almost every other mascara I have tried. Regardless I will always be out there looking for the next ‘best’ mascara to top that. So far, none yet.

potionprincess April 8, 2009 at 3:57 am

Ah its still back to the old classic for me loreal voluminous mascara(but the orignal formula is still the best,I put translucent powder on my lashes before mascara it seems to make them thicker.

AimsK April 8, 2009 at 4:18 am

The absolutely most amazing mascara I have ever used is without a doubt Lancome Definicils. It does not clump, flake, or wimp out on me. It always amazes me in how it has such staying power. Everyone NEEDS to try it. It is way worth it. Always remember to let that first coat dry before going over again!

Andrea April 8, 2009 at 8:43 am

Thanks for the review!!!
Very helpful!!!

Crystal April 8, 2009 at 9:57 am

The best I’ve used is Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara.

salima April 8, 2009 at 10:19 am

The best mascara I have used is Dior show!

prettybeautiful April 8, 2009 at 12:11 pm

hmm the best i have ever used is:Maybelline XXL waterproof mascara!

fuz April 8, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Very helpful, won’t work well on me as I don’t have full lashes!

Cat April 8, 2009 at 8:54 pm

New to your blog, but just read through… all of it. As one would a novel. Yes. *ahem* Total love! <33 [also bonus points for being from Oz, haha. There are too few of us on the nets. T-T]

Best I’ve used would be Shu. ^______________^ Thanks for the fabulous blogging! :3

cuteandcurls April 9, 2009 at 1:50 am

Can I be greedy and vote for 2? ^_^

ZA’s Cutie Curl Mascara and Elianto’s Fake Lash Mascara!

summerayx April 9, 2009 at 2:28 am

Actually I can’t quite recall the name. It was a plump blue colour cased version of the Maybelline Waterproof Volume Express I think (which no longer retails). My first mascara and in fact it was given to me by my mom. Slicks on great and ‘catches’ all of the lashes in one swoop; can be easily removed too. Application was so simple I guess I appreciate its value much better upon hindsight, i.e. after having gone through the lesser ones! ;p

Traclyn Yeoh April 9, 2009 at 3:12 am

Hey Tine!! You have giveaways for international readers…That’s so nice of you. Sorry ya, I couldn’t organize any of international ones yet. I thought I might just give this a try.

Current mascara that I love is, NENCAI Magic Curl Long Mascara because it volumes a little, curls my lashes so well even without using eyelash curler, lengthens madly, and waterproof. I even reviewed the mascara at http://voguefemme.xanga.com/697124851/review-nencai-magic-curl-long-mascara/

Amber April 9, 2009 at 6:39 am

The best mascara I’ve tried is Chanel Inimitable. I have very blonde, very straight eyelashes, with no mascara on you honestly can’t even tell I have eyelashes. Inimitable actually gave my lashes curl without an eyelash curler, made them super long and it stayed all day. Sadly it’s out of my price range for every day use but it is wonderful!

MC April 9, 2009 at 11:52 am

“What’s the best mascara you’ve ever used, and why?”
My answer is a bit sad. I’ve only ever used Estee Lauder’s Magna Scopic Max Volume Mascara so I guess that’s the best one I’ve used. It doesn’t clump which makes it real easy to apply. Doesn’t do much for the volume though.

I really should stop being so boring and try other mascaras!

Theresa N April 10, 2009 at 4:20 am

Maybelline Greaat Lash is the best I’ve used so far. I really helps me add a little length.

retty-O April 10, 2009 at 4:15 pm

I love the Maybelline Great Lash. Simply the best. Length and volume.

Lisa April 10, 2009 at 5:46 pm

The best mascara I’ve used so far is Relian Mascara cause it effectively lengthens my lashes while keeping it clump free and natural. You can really see the result. :)

Apple April 10, 2009 at 5:53 pm

All of Maybelline’s mascaras are the best for me. They never fail. Thank you for this giveaway!

sugar! April 11, 2009 at 2:01 am

Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour NEO because it’s simply fabulous! It never fails to give me the fullest and longest lashes ever!

Mel April 11, 2009 at 11:17 pm

“What’s the best mascara you’ve ever used, and why?”

Revlon’s Lash Fantasy Total Definition Mascara, cuz the white base really helped elongate my short lashes (Asian genes) and the black coatings gave me nice curls plus they were easy to remove :)

Celine April 13, 2009 at 11:32 am

I haven’t tried many mascaras, but my favorite thus far is L’Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes because it doesn’t smear on my very oily eyelids and is easy to remove with no greasy smears!

Amy April 13, 2009 at 8:31 pm

I’ve only recently started using makeup..so i haven’t used a whole lot. But I like Maybelline Unstoppabble Lash Extension mascara. It doesn’t flake at all and has smooooooth application =)

qq April 14, 2009 at 1:34 pm

The best mascara I’ve used is waterproof lashblast by covergirl. It doesn’t weigh my lashes down and holds the curl really well. Also it makes my lashes look a lot longer.

SammiJ April 14, 2009 at 8:33 pm

I absolutely adore Clarins’ Wonder Volume mascara. I was introduced to it 5 years ago, and have not stopped repurchasing it. Well, I have strayed to try others, but I always go back to this. Its the only mascara that volumises, lengthens AND holds a curl in my annoyingly short and straight lashes.

Wow, this sounds like an advert. Hehe! I’d be very interested in trying the maybelline mascara, it looks like it’s done you wonders!

Also, glad you enjoyed your time on the Peninsula! I just moved to Melbourne from the Mornington area! Dromana, to be precise. It’s beautiful there :)

Sue April 14, 2009 at 10:37 pm

Q: What’s the best mascara you’ve ever used, and why?

A: Having eyes that were described by the optician as “Oriental”, one can surely imagine that I am not that well endowed in the lashes department. If my lashes were a bra they would be a miserable A cup. However, after using the Maybelline Lash Discovery mascara they are now a proud D – all without surgery, too! The outstanding feature is that the brush is small enough to not leave a messy residue on my lids.

Carol Miranda April 15, 2009 at 3:08 am

When you use mascara, it should define your eyes and over the years I have been a regular user of Boots 17 Sensitive Eyes Mascara (12 ml) of pure smudgeproof coating, fibre free & perfume free – so it never irritates the tender eye area and dries instantly on application. The wand helps you to curl your lashes and with 2 coats it is enough to give you a nice wide eyed look. Its medium priced too.

Evelyn April 17, 2009 at 12:45 pm

Helooo! =D

The best mascara I’ve used by far would be Dejavu Fiberwig Lash Mascara in BROWN. Yeap! It’s the only brown mascara by far that gives me the volume and length which is obvious enough to be seen. Otherwise, I would have to use those in Black colour in order to make these lashes of mine obvious. =D
Still looking for one to beat Fiberwig~
