Johnson’s Baby Soothing Naturals Intense Moisture Cream

by Tine on May 27, 2009

I normally do not review products if I haven’t been trying them out for at least a month, but I’m so excited about this body lotion that I bought almost a couple of weeks ago, that I just have to share with you. I know I have way too many body moisturisers to begin with, but I simply fell in love with the Johnson’s Baby Soothing Naturals range.

Johnson's Soothing Naturals Intense Moisture Cream

Description:
Johnsons® Soothing Naturals™ Intense Moisture Cream is made with Pur-E, a unique form of pure Vitamin E blended with plant extract and minerals. This soothing cream moisturizes to provide relief and to help heal dry skin even extra dry patches. Fast absorbing and non-greasy. It moisturizes extra dry skin for 24 hours to give lasting relief. Johnsons® Soothing Naturals™Intense Moisture Cream is clinically proven mild, thoroughly tested by dermatologists, and allergy-tested. Johnsons® Brand is pediatrician recommended.

Ingredients:
Water, Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Coco Glycerides, Glycine Soja Oil (soybean), Dimethicone, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Olea Europaea Leaf Extract (Olive), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Sodium Cocoyl Amino Acids, Magnesium Aspartate, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract (Matricaria), Zea Mays Starch (Corn), Hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil, Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides, Sarcosine, Propylene Glycol, Carbomer, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance

There’ve been a number of mixed reviews on this – positive raves about how delicate and creamy it is on their skin, and their children’s skin, and negative ones on it containing alcohol and parabens. Parabens do not bother me, and cetyl alcohol is not a skin irritant, so I reckon I’m all right.

*Cetyl alcohol: Fatty alcohol used as an emollient, emulsifier, thickener and carrying agent for other ingredients. Can be derived naturally, as in coconut fatty alcohol, or synthetically. It is not an irritant and is not related to SD alcohol or ethyl alcohol.

Back to review – I love it. It smells great; really fresh and not at all overpowering. The cream is not as thick as it looks. It feels like mousse when you rub it onto the skin. And man, it sure moisturises the skin well. I’d slather it on after a shower, and 12 hours later, my skin still feels soft and hydrated, especially on dry areas like my elbows and knees. Me LOVE!

At 7 bucks at Chemist Warehouse, Priceline or other pharmacies and supermarkets, it’s a steal. I can’t wait to try out the bath cream too :)

What I like about it: Smells amazing, cream is not heavy or greasy, hydrates the skin very well.

What I do not like about it: Nothing

(Edit (29 May 2009): When I mentioned that parabens do not bother me, I meant that I will not stop using general beauty products simply because there are parabens in it (it’s in a lot products you use and consume – shampoos, deodorants, moisturisers, etc. Even in food.), as so far, there has been no scientific evidence to support any link between parabens with any form of cancer. Studies are currently inconclusive. Still, it is an issue which the FDA is conducting research on.

I will, however, be happy to use any alternatives without said parabens. My review of this product is my personal opinion, and does not affect your rights as a consumer. Please consult a health professional if you are not sure about parabens or other ingredients in your skincare products.)

Unlike the rest, I’ve never paid attention to J&J body lotions simple because they didn’t hydrate my skin enough. But hydrated skin after 12 hours? I’m in! Will look out for this on my next visit to the pharma :D

Are you not concerned about parabens? This product contains not 1 but 3 derivatives of paraben!!
Now i’ve read about parabens being linked to cancer. What do you think about that?

I don’t mind parabens either, but it does annoy me a little when companies name their products ‘natural’ or something similar when clearly they aren’t!
