Expensive or Cheap Makeup/Skincare When Traveling

Happy Thursday, ladies. Hope the week’s been treating you fine. Finally, after months of staying away from new makeup, I broke the spell and got myself a lovely compact powder from Chanel. I’ll have plenty of time to feel guilty later *gulp*. But for now, here’s a question for you:

Do you bring your expensive makeup and/or skincare items along with you when traveling? Or would you prefer to carry cheaper alternatives?

20090611 Chanel and Loreal

I’m half and half on this one. I’d carry my usual foundation, powder and blush but I’ll bring the cheap drugstore stuff (as much as I can) when it comes to eye shadow and lippies. I wish there were cheaper options to setting the canvas when I’m traveling that would not break me out. As for the rest, I’d keep the expensive palettes at home and bring cheaper, more versatile colours with me. If the expensive ones were to break during my travels, I’d be heartbroken.

As for skincare, I never compromise on what already works for me. I’ve tried using different brands of travel-sized samples but somehow, when I’m holiday, the skin tends to have a mind of its own. It’ll break out if I do not stick to my usual stuff. Yeah, naughty skin, that one. For that purpose, whenever I buy my usual skincare products, I’d ask for samples, and if they aren’t available, I’d depot them.

What about you? What’s your take on this? Ever brought along an expensive compact with you and then having to discover it *gasp* broken in your bag? Do share those horror stories, if you have any.

i don’t depot my skincare, i just lug the whole thing around! with tat said, u know how heavy my luggage can be. ahaha.

makeup wise, depending on where i am going and what function i have, i usually don’t bring them, or bring very minimal! and i bring the cheaper palettes for e/s, but not for blush, foundie, concealer, lippie and mascara ๐Ÿ˜›

I don’t put much thought into that! I just bring whatever that seems to suit where I’m going.

When I travel I make sure your make up and my skincare products are well well packed. Makeup wise I still bring along my MAC powder and lipsticks let alone blusher and concealer ^_^ I rarely bring any of my eyeshadows with me tho but it depends on where Im going ..if Im going back to the UK to visit the in-laws I can always get the drugstore brands at Boots. Skin-care wise I truly wrapped them very well after what had happened to my toner ..it was still brand new, KIEHLS, the toner itself from a full bottle it became half a bottle as it just ‘burst’ in my bag luckily not damaging any of my other things. Ive wrapped it well but for some reason I think its the packaging itself that did not work too well. So from that onwards I bought toners that are in travel-friendly bottles.

Hmmm… i usually just bring whatever fancies me – usually i’ll bring the “universally flattering” colors ๐Ÿ™‚

Fingers crossed, so far my makeup have never been broken… but then again i wrap them in lots of bubblewrap and place them in between my clothes, so should be alright i guess! ๐Ÿ˜€

I bring my HG’s since I need the key handful of products that keep me looking just as good while living out of a suitcase.

I don’t wear eye makeup when I travel, lol, I just make sure to bring powder, lip balm, one lipstick, eyeliner that’s it! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m set! Because I have a feeling I will shop for makeup if I travel! LOL Gives me a reason to purchase too! hahahaa

i need to bring my usual skincare ๐Ÿ˜€ no trial & error for me during holidays. & makeup, i bring whatever i fancy is versatile. i never considered that they’d break! now that you’ve mentioned it, i wonder why i didn’t think of it.

this is weird that everyone’s talking about travel vs. mu these few days! and i am on my last day of vacation here in KK. OK, i believe in bringing whatecer HG you use and mu should be cheap (if possible). I broke my HG Dior Rose Diamond during my trip to China nd had to buy another one at DFS on the way back. NOT cool! Never do that again!

ever since using bb creams im not a fan of foundie anymore.
plus when travelling i tend to break out at times
so its better to give some pampering to it i guess ๐Ÿ˜›

last time when i went on a holiday, my auntie misplaced all my skincare products in the hand-carry luggage! and in the end all of them got thrown out since they’re not sample sizes. (it was a month- long holiday so I don’t think sample sizes ones would last that long..). Thank god they’re not expensive ones though! Otherwise I would scream my lungs out hehe

I bring whatever I want to use for the trip, whether expensive or cheap. I once went on a trip with some girl friends and they were amazed at how much stuff I brought for a two-day affair. I just want to have options wherever I am.

For me i just bring the basics into little containers and buy most of the makeup since there the product i need to stock up on and bring them back on the plane instead of sending them with the luggage heavy yes, but it puts my mind at ease during the trip ^^

However with the new rule im crying with joy everytime i open my luggage and everything is okay cos i get the expensive stuff cos if your overseas your face is suddnely in a new environment you need good products to keep it okay.

I don’t own any drugstore stuff anymore, so all I can do when I travel is bring all the HE stuff! xD

Hmm I never really give a thought on this matter lol To me I just bring my skincare products (which are relatively cheap, somehow high end brands don’t work on me) and some basic practical makeup. For makeup, I tend to bring the cheap ones ๐Ÿ˜› Of course I’ll be heartbroken if my exp makeup is broken. I pain good sum of $$$ for it so might as well keep it in one piece whenever possible.

I’m always scared of stuff getting lost when I travel so I just bring some basic makeup products ad my skincare products into little containers. That way my mind is at easy and I can relax during the trip.

I don’t have a lot of makeup so I usually just bring whatever I need when I’m travelling. My hair serum leaked during our last travel though and there was a chance that all my makeup stuff was going to get ruined since they were all in the same bag but thank goodness, it was only minimal damage and none of my expensive stuff got affected. Phew~

I normally forget my cleanser! I dunno why but I can remember those little make up and BB cream. It still happens every time I travel.

One time I brought along my cleanser the pump kind and I didn’t lock it and it spilled EVERYWHERE in my skincare bag. It was absolutely disgusting. The reason why it spilled everywhere was because we drove the car to the top of Grand Canyon so I guess the air pressure and stuff kind of squeezed it out of the pump.

The good thing is that make up and stuff in the states is very cheap, so I picked up some stuff (read some as in a LOT of stuff that was on sale)

I decant everything into smaller bottles and just bring what I really need: Cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen. I hardly ever wear makeup while travelling (I like to let my skin adjust to the surroundings) but I do bring some powder, blush, concealer, lippie and mascara just in case.

As for drugstore vs. expensive, all of my skincare essentials are drugstore lines: Cetaphil, Nivea and Olay. I gave up on high-end skincare a few years ago as it simply didn’t make a difference to my skin. The only thing I spend a bit more on are serums and treatments.
