Guinot Fast Mattifying Concealer: A Stick Spot Concealer in a Tube

I’m thankfully blessed with relatively good and obedient skin. I don’t get much breakouts other than the odd ones during that time of the month. In terms of blemishes, I do have some freckles on my cheeks, but I never conceal those because they are a part of me which I don’t want to hide. Plus I think they’re cute 😛 There is an area of my face that needs quite a bit of concealing work though, and that’s around my nose.

The corners of my nose give me the most problems. Breakouts begin there, there’s an overload of sebum excretion that leads to open pores and a whole lot of redness around the area. The redness normally spreads to just under my nostrils as well. Sadly, I’m quite self-conscious of that area so I have to use a concealer on it.

Guinot Fast Mattifying Concealer

I was given the opportunity to trial Guinot’s Fast Mattifying Concealer a while ago. It claims to be a mattifying concealer, and that just screams ‘stick concealer’ to me, which I’m not a big fan of. So, did I like this? Did it do a good job on that red area around my nose?

Description:
The tinted formula not only conceals spots perfectly, it dries and directly treats imperfections improving the health of the skin. It contains:
Maximat – a blend of mattifying ingredients
Lipacid – an amino acid, which restores the acid mantle to the skin, it also regulates the cutaneous ecosystem
Glucobiolzinc – the combination of Zinc and Gluconate, that has sebo-regulating and healing properties

First off, the texture. This mother is THICK. It takes a big of effort squeezing it out of the tube, it’s that heavy. In terms of shade matching, this suits my skin quite well. After blending, you can’t really tell where the concealer begins and ends.

With this concealer, you’d only need the size of a grain of rice to work with. I’d normally squeeze a tiny amount onto the back of my hand, work the thick cream with my finger, warming it before I quickly dab it only my spots. You have to work fast with this concealer as it dries quite quickly, turning the area matte.

Guinot Fast Mattifying Concealer Partially Blended

This thick concealer reminds me very much of stick concealers. It’s quite heavy, so it conceals dark spots very well. However, as it is heavy, I don’t like this around the corners of my nose because it tends to look very cakey there, given that it’s a matte concealer. But when I use it on zits that appear on smoother areas like my cheeks, chin or forehead, the concealer blends in well.

All in all, I find this a good concealer for spots on my chin, cheeks and forehead, but not around the corners of my nose. I wouldn’t recommend it under the eyes though as it’s not meant to conceal dark circles. For covering up spots, I give this a thumbs up.

Guinot Fast Mattifying Concealer retails at AU$47 for 15ml and is available at selected beauty salons (click for stockists).

What I like about it: Thick enough to cover spots on my cheeks, chin or forehead well without looking cakey. Blends well.

What I do not like about it: Formula is too thick for the corners of my nose. Fair call as it’s not meant to be used as a concealer for anything other than blemishes.
