I’m A Beauty Blogger But I Can’t Do These!

I'm A Beauty Blogger But I Can't Do These

A few weeks ago, as I was watching the telly with Tim, I randomly tweeted this.

“I’m a beauty blogger, but I can’t put on fake eyelashes to save my life. If you’re a beauty blogger, is there something you cannot do?”

To my surprise, many beauty bloggers replied the tweet, sharing the beauty things they can’t do, and are still struggling with. I’m so glad to know that I’m not the only one who can’t do the following:

  • Β False eyelashes baffle me. I just can’t seem to be able to put on. I’ve watched videos, I’ve practiced and wasted a lot of falsies (the desk usually ends up looking like there are dead creepy crawlies all over it).
  • Β I’m still struggling with the application of eyeliners, especially liquid and gel ones. Even though I found a liquid eyeliner that doesn’t make me want to poke my eyes out, I can’t do the flicked/winged tip.
  • Β I don’t really know how to contour my face with bronzer. I usually end up looking as though I have war paint on my cheeks.
  • I only know how to style my hair one way. Hair bloggers like Hair Romance drive me nuts with envy because I wish I knew how to do hair-up-knot-thingy with certain thingamajigs like she does.

Dang, and I call myself a beauty blogger? Well, I believe I still have things I can bring to the table that can benefit my readers, and that’s why I continue to do what I love doing. And I strongly believe this applies to ALL beauty bloggers as well. So what if you don’t know how to do a few things? There will always be something someone else don’t know how to do, but you do!

It’s also a reminder that we’re only human, and that in this fun journey of beauty blogging, there are still a lot of things we can learn from each other.

What about you? If you’re a beauty blogger (or not), is there something you wish you knew how to do? Is there something that drives you completely bonkers that everyone else seem to know how to do it, but somehow you don’t?

lol!! I’m a so-called beauty blogger wannabe but I can’t wear false eyelashes myself! I have this huge fear of poking my eye or glueing my eye shut with the lash glue so it’s just mascara for me! I’m not very good with eye shadow application either but that’s maybe because I’m not artistic as some of you lovelies out there! I’d rather stick to neutral colours and not bright bold ones because I wouldn’t want to risk attracting unwanted attention to myself, what more my eyes =p

But then again, Tine, you do not need to be a know-all beauty blogger because at the end of the day it’s your lovely personality that shines through and that’s why we all love reading your blog! =)

    Have a lovely weekend! xx

Sukie: Aww thanks sweets. Likewise! I agree about the part about a blogger’s personality shining through. So what if we can’t do certain things? If we have even one reader, we must be doing something right, no? πŸ™‚

      1. Sukie

        Ditto that! =)

Interesting topic. I can’t use eyeshadow like prod, and I can’t do my hair. And I don’t use make up daily. I really envy people who can do magic with hair

    1. Tine

Xin: Me too. I can’t do jack with my hair πŸ™

Hair. It’s the hair. I don’t know what to do with it! I can do makeup fine, from falsies to contouring to lining but the hair drives me nuts!!!!

Lily: Hey at least you could do all the rest πŸ˜› But yeah I know what you mean. I have the tools, but none of the expertise. If hair salons don’t charge an arm and a leg here, I’d leave it to them. Sigh.

I don’t know how to LOVE lipstick the way some people do. πŸ™

Giddy Tigress: Hahahaha I love lipsticks! Can’t say I put them on expertly like makeup artists do, but I find that it’s more elegant on the lips compared to lipgloss πŸ™‚

      1. giddy tigress

Don’t get me wrong, I do love lipsticks, but I find that whenever I put lipstick on, I don’t like the stains it leaves, plus when I kiss my little ‘uns, there’s lipstick marks on them! I’m quite lucky to have rather pigmented lips, so it looks like I have some pink lipstick on me all the time πŸ™‚

        1. Tine

Giddy Tigress: Haha I know what you mean. In that case, try lip stains. They don’t rub off as easily, making kissing of lil’ ones (and the big guy ;)) easy peasy. Clinique’s Chubby Sticks are good πŸ™‚

Thanks for the tip, Tine! Ooh, I’ve not tried that one..but will keep that in KIV πŸ™‚

Glad you came out with this post β€” and glad to know I’m not the only beauty blogger that finds eye liner winged tips and bronzer are mysteries despite multiple attempts! I don’t do false lashes either…I think they look great when done right but I think they are too much hassle for me. I take about an hour to get ready to go out (plus showering, blow drying hair, makeup and changing) so to add on more things to do would just make me feel like I’m crossing some sort of “it’s too much” line…

Astrorainfall: Yay, erm, great minds think alike? πŸ˜› I’ve tried doing winged tips but it just doesn’t look as good as when makeup artists do it on me. Gah.
Falsies would be nice for night outs, if I knew how to bloody put them on πŸ˜›

I can’t do all of the above and so much more! πŸ˜› I’m a very basics kind of girl.

  7. electronicfly

    1) I can put on false lashes, but only after at least 1 hour and with the use of a silicon helper clip thingy
    2) The same goes for eyeshadow. Daily looks are ok, but once I try to go drama I will take ages (and many redos!) to get a look I like
    3) I can’t seem to wear color on my lips. I look weird with any color at all on my lips =/
    4) I too only know 1 hairstyle. Straight! πŸ˜›

    1. Tine

Electronicfly: Hehehe, I like the way you said “go drama”. My sentiments exactly.
You can’t wear colour on your lips?? Surely you jest! :O

      1. electronicfly

No, I’m serious! I don’t know why, but every lip color I’ve tried looks weird on me =/ By the third time I see my reflection I’ll remove the color d =/

  8. Karina

Can’t do/apply: false lashes, contouring, liquid eyeliner (gel all the way!), colorful eyeshadow (I’m scared haha), plus I’m hesitant about trying out facials or any treatments that’ll prick skin – I kind of want to, but I don’t know what’s best for me or if I’ll react to anything they use. Oh and I cannot blowdry or curl my hair to save my life. πŸ™‚
Karina recently posted..Office-Appropriate Nail PolishMy Profile

Karina: Let’s see, check check check checked all those boxes. Yep, can’t do them. Okay, I’ll uncheck the part about facials and treatments because I have had peels, and even though they do not prick the skin, they “burn” it πŸ˜›

  9. Cecilia

    This is so “me”, haha.

    1) I don’t even know if I can put on lashes. I don’t even own a pair of fake lashes. I do know, though, that I would end with my lids glued for good. πŸ˜›

    2) I can’t wear lipstick AND lipgloss. It’s overwhelming. One thing or the other.

    3) I can do a perfect curl with a flat iron at the first try. And that’s all I can do. The rest of my hair will end up perfectly straight, no matter how much I try.

    4) I can’t do a neutral eye look. Somehow I always end up wearing a sultry smokey eye.

    Should I keep blogging? πŸ™‚

Cecilia: I can’t wear lipstick and lipgloss together either! Well, I do try in the evenings, but during the day, nope, it’s one or the other.

Of course you should keep blogging! Look at how much you can do! πŸ˜‰

  10. Amanda

You speak my mind. Everybody around me seem to know how to use false eyelashes, eyeliners, and whatnot. But for me, I don’t even know how to apply eye shadow with more than one color. And for that one color I can manage to apply on my eyelids, it’s so thin and sheer that no one seems to notice. Sometimes, I wonder whether I’m a normal girl. I’m simply not good at cosmetic things.

i have the same sentiments about false lashes. i wish i can get it to work, to compensate my barely there lashes, but it’s so hard! i had several attempts, spent over 15 mins but couldn’t get it right. i guess it just not for me (and i secretly hate tutorials that uses false lashes).

I can’t do eyelashes either. And I can only do simple hairdo’s.

    1. Tine

Vonvon: Same here. Beauty bloggers, eh? πŸ˜‰

  16. gio

My biggest problem is hair. I have no idea what to do with it. And I can’ draw a straight line with liquid eyeliners that come with a brush applicator..

  17. sesame

I am absolutely a noob with makeup. I can’t apply eyeliner and can’t put on false lashes. Even applying blush can be a challenge. I don’t know…I think it has to do with my husband who doesn’t like me with too much makeup. So if I try a bit more, or experiment with other colors and get some crappy comments from him, I get discouraged and give up.

As I replied your Tweet- I can’t put on fake eyelashes, apply eyeshadow or do nail art πŸ˜› Heck, I can’t even apply nail polish properly haha! Neither can I contour my face with bronzer or use highlighter, or style my hair myself :

Though I am proud to say I have mastered liquid eyeliner, and am starting to get the hang of the flecked/winged tip πŸ˜€ Some days it looks gorgeous (Until I don’t want to remove it) but sometimes it still looks wonky and I have to retry a few times haha πŸ˜›
