Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid UV Moist Emulsion

On my last trip to Malaysia, I went on a bit of a binge on sunscreen shopping. I bought at least 4, and I was especially eager to try the ones by Asian brands. It was surprisingly difficult finding a sunscreen that does not contain alcohol (almost all Biore sunscreens contain alcohol).

One of the sunscreens I picked up that was alcohol-free was the Hada Labo UV Moist Emulsion.

Okay, what’s with the word “moist” in the name? Are we to think that the emulsion is dry if you don’t tell us it’s moist? Good Engrish, I tell ya 😉

My first impression of the sunscreen is that it’s very watery. In fact, you have to make sure you give the bottle a good shake before using it, or else you might find that the water separates from the white fluid of the sunscreen. It doesn’t have a strong sunscreen smell, which is a plus point.

What I like about the sunscreen, other than the fact that it has SPF50, is that it applies very smoothly on the skin and it makes a very good base for makeup. It fills and covers the open pores of my nose, and I find that foundations and BB creams apply and stay very well on the skin.

When I do not have makeup over this sunscreen, I’m glad to say that there’s no white cast and it does not leave my skin looking like a grease pot at the end of the day. I’m giving it two very enthusiastic thumbs up!

Hada Labo UV Moist Emulsion was purchased at Sasa in Malaysia for about RM50 for 38ml (approximately AU$16.70). Unfortunately, at the moment of writing, this is not available on the Sasa.com.

What I like about it: High SPF, good base for makeup, oil-free, no white cast

What I do not like about it: Not available in Australia

I die. Love the moisturising emulsion – thanks to your recommendation during one of your past visits to malaysia I purchased a bottle last june =) I find it makes a good base for makeup, only downside being it makes my fingers feel a tad sticky. Does the sunscreen have the same feel after??

Em: Ah do you mean the lotion? The pretty sticky one? I usually wait a minute before I put anything on top of it because it takes more time to dry compared to my other skincare products. However, for the sunscreen, it dries quite quickly and there’s no sticky residue on my skin (face or hands) 🙂

Its the moisturising milk, sorry =) Love that. I do have the lotion (toner?) as well that I apply with a cotton ball but halfway through the first bottle made my cheeks dry and scaly =/ Bought 2 bottles urgh! I’ll be putting this on my list for my next visit, thanks for the review, Tine =D Asia and their SPF50+, so hard to find in Oz!

Ella: I did find this a bit runny, but it works very well regardless 😛

I always wanted to try this sunscreen, lucky you…. Sadly I just started using a backup of my Biore, bought it without looking if there were alcohol in the ingredients… Will be trying the Hada Labo next….

Madelyn: I think a lot of people didn’t think there would be alcohol in Biore sunscreens. I didn’t know when I bought the green aloe-something sunscreen gel many years ago. I loved how cooling it was on the skin, but thought it was from menthol, not alcohol 😛

am currently using this, it feels a little heavier than what I am used to (biore’s perfect face milk has been my staple for years), it’s a little stickier and sadly, it didn’t really cover my pores on my cheeks like it did for your pores on nose.

the plus point is, i can use this on days when i skip moisturizer and no need to worry of dry flaky skin at the end of the day 😉

Plue: Sucks that it didn’t work for you as well as it does for me, but you still get use out of it, so money not wasted 😛

Hey I have been wanting to try hadalab’s bb cream since I saw it from beautybox on YouTube. I have only tried nutrogena’s sheer sunscreen, it’s a good product, I just wish it could also throw in a coverage as well. Then I came across beautybox on YouTube. She suggested it’s a light and good coverage bb cream for my humid Singapore. Ever since i been wanting it. Unfortunately, Watsons in Singapore don’t carry their bb cream. So I have no choice but to purchase it online. I never bought anything online before so I don’t want to start doing that yet. Been hoping Watsons in Singapore will bring them in soon.
But, in this article you said we could get it at SaSa in Malaysia, could you tell me which mall, that is closest to Singapore? I wouldn’t mind traveling there to get it. Hope to hear something good.

P.s. Does this series of bb cream come in different shades?

    1. Tine

Nicole: I’m afraid this review is for the sunscreen, not the BB cream. I’m afraid I haven’t tried the BB cream yet, and do not know if it comes in several shades. But yes, I did get this at Sasa, although it is also available at Watsons (you may be able to get it cheaper there too, as Watsons do regular promotions and discounts from time to time). As for where I got this from, it’s from the Sasa at Queensbay Mall, Penang. A bit too far from Singapore methinks 🙂

Can you tell me where I can buy hyaluronic acid in Penang. Will be there next week. Thanks, look forward to your response. Kathy

    1. Tine

Kathy R: I don’t know if you mean hyaluronic acid on its own, or this UV Moist Emulsion. If it’s the latter, it’s available at Watsons, Guardian pharmacies, and Sasa.

If it’s the former, sorry, I have no clue.

  9. C

does is need makeup remover if I want to remove it from face?

    1. Tine

Nope, it’s not necessary. It’s not the sort of sunscreen that requires double cleansing. Just regular cleansing will remove it easily.
