Flooded With Sample Sachets!

I’m a bit of a hoarder. I can’t help it, it’s in my blood. My late paternal grandfather was a hoarder (close to what you see in documentaries), and so is my dad. When you took a peek into my beauty cabinet, let’s just say it’s just the tip of the iceberg 😛

So naturally, when it comes to sample sachets, I hoard them too. I love sample sachets. They’re great for traveling, as I can just use and chuck. I don’t go all out collecting them, but thanks to many beauty brands and magazines, I’ve come to quite a collection. I’ve been keeping, chucking, and then keeping some more for the past couple of years in a mooncake tin. Unfortunately, it’s getting a bit out of control, and it’s a hassle selecting shampoo from body wash in the heap of packets.

Sample Sachets

One day, I decided I’ve had enough, and that it was time I organised them properly. All I needed were sandwich bags and a Sharpie.

Organising Sample Sachets

Ta-dah! All sachets are now properly kept in their specific ziplock bags, in their specific categories. This way, it’s much easier to pick one or two from each baggie and into my toiletries bag. No more rummaging through heaps of samples!

Hmm I think I’ll tackle my kitchen next 😛

Shizuka: I picked this idea up from an issue of Oprah magazine I think. Brilliant idea, isn’t it? 😛 This way, I can just pick and choose what I want without having to tip everything out of the box and go through each sachet one by one! 😛

  2. Chelsea

Love it! Such a great idea. Why did I not think about this?!

Chelsea: I didn’t think of this either until I read it on Oprah! Would have missed it too, the idea was printed so tiny. But man, it’s such a great idea. Be warned though, you’ll need a lot of ziplock bags for different categories 😉

      1. Chelsea

Usually, I’m the ziplock bag queen 😉

What a great idea! I’m going to do the same with my samples. I have heaps of them and never use them cause I can’t be bothered sifting through them trying to find what I want, so organising them like this would be perfect.

GlossQueen: That’s exactly what I thought. When I need to travel, I’m always dipping everything out of the tin and sifting through what I need. Eg okay this shampoo, where’s the matching conditioner? (I’m a bit OCD, need to use them in pairs :P), where’s the bloomin’ eye cream, etc. After I did this, oh, it’s so much easier!

The 3rd picture makes me go woooow… didn’t know there are so many categories….

    1. Tine

Bee Chin: I didn’t think that there was going to be so many either until I started arranging the sachets in individual piles. I figured it’s better to put in more specific categories in case I need a specific one quickly 🙂

  5. plue

oh you are a splendid organizer! i just dump all my sample sachets into a bag and yes it’s messy. named ziplock bags are definitely a much better way to get things organized 🙂

Going home to do this! Fantastic idea! *inspiring*

Wtmontana: So much more fun than using ziplock bags to stuff lunch in 😛 😛

Nice!!! I’m quite a hoarder too – from beauty products, freebies, stationery, cards, books, etcetera, etcetera…. This blog post has given me ideas to organize my stuff!:D

Grace: Hehehe good to know I’m not the only one. I’m terrible with stationery too. I have heaps of pretty notebooks, all unused. And yet I keep looking out for more. Very bad, I tell ya 😉

  9. Megan

What clever idea, I use up heaps of these things when I’m on work trips. So perfect for that purpose!

Annabella: Sigh, tell me about it. I’ve been doing the same – organising and reorganising and my stuff just sits there unused. And I’m not just talking about beauty products! 😛

  11. nufaka

think u can use it for present for give away. hihiks

    1. Tine

Nufaka: I do! My giveaway winners will usually find a number of sachets together with their prizes 😉

  12. Bun Bun Makeup Tips

I’m not a fan of samples… I feel like I can’t get to know the product well enough.. Haha… but those moisturizers for the body, I like. 😀

Bun Bun: I normally use sample sachets when traveling, easier to chuck after use. I don’t really use moisturisers for the face in case they break me out, but cleansers, body wash, body lotions, shampoo, conditioner, etc are fab since if decanted, they take up the bulk of my toiletries space 😛

  13. Madam M

This is the best idea! I am totally stealing this. I have a draw in my vanity dresser dedicated to samples. I am always trying to off load them. Sisters coming over… make up a gift bag, meeting a girlfriend for coffee…. make up a gift bag… got a magazine meeting… make up a gift bag. This bagged up option would serious save me so much time. Thanks doll.

Madam M: Go ahead and nick the idea! Happy to share. I don’t keep mine very long because goodness knows how long they last in the foil. Every time there’s a giveaway, or when I send presents overseas, I always throw some in 🙂

  14. Issa

This is a great idea! Wow, you have a lot of sample sachets! 🙂

    1. Tine

Issa: Haha I have a lot, don’t I? Collected them from magazines, gift bags, friends, etc 😛
