The Face Shop FaceIt Aqua Tinted BB Cream

Confession: I’ve never really been a fan of The Face Shop. Their products are, no doubt, packaged quite prettily, and the facial sheet masks are affordable (well, at least in Malaysia they are. Bloody overpriced in Australia, I tell ya) and very popular. Unfortunately, I don’t like their facial sheet masks either as I find them heavily soaked in alcohol. As for the rest, they are okay, I suppose.

My mum, however, is a fan of giving gifts from The Face Shop (positive-ish points above), so whenever I’m back in Malaysia, our shopping escapades almost always began with a trip to a The Face Shop store. During my last trip, I lazily scanned the shelves for something to buy for the blog (Ahem! ), and I laid eyes on their new BB creams. After testing a few, I left the shop with the FaceIt Aqua Tinted BB cream.

Description:
- A moisturizing BB cream that contains 70% water that keeps skin fresh, clear, and well-moisturized
- 70% of this BB cream is water which includes deep ocean water
- This BB cream glides over skin, leaving the skin feeling cool, refreshed, light and comfortable
- Contains purslane extract which calms skin and is effective against skin problems

I’m sure most, if not all, of you already know what a BB cream is, what it does, etc, so I’m not going to repeat them here. One thing about BB creams is that it should give good coverage to the skin as it’s supposed to conceal blemishes and imperfections. For me, I’m pretty much the opposite because I like my BB creams to give me just enough coverage to even out my skin tone, cover blemishes as much as it can, without too much coverage, if you know what I mean. In other words, for medium to full coverage, I look to foundations and for medium coverage alone, I’m all for BB creams. I’m not really aiming for what true BB creams should do, but just enough. Gee, I hope I’m making sense here.

Anyway, back to the FaceIt Aqua Tinted BB cream. As the name suggests, it’s a water-based cream, which is most suitable for oily/combination skin. The texture reminds me a little of Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation, but a slightly lighter version. The BB cream comes in two shades. I picked the lighter one, which is in Light Beige.

It’s a yellow-based tinted cream, which is suitable for my warm skintone. Unfortunately, I may have chosen the wrong shade because even though it looked fine on the back of the hand and jawline, when I actually applied it all over my face, my skin does look a tad lighter than what it should be. The colour does settle after a few minutes back to my skintone but I suspect it’s probably due to oxidation of the BB cream than anything else.

Coverage-wise, I’d say it’s a medium, which is just what I wanted. It doesn’t conceal pimples but it does cover very fine red capillaries around my nose. The product doesn’t sink into the open pores of my nose and hide them though, which is a pity. As for longevity, this BB cream doesn’t last very long on the skin. Six hours later and I’d be wondering if I still have any left on the skin.

Oh the horror. Makeup-free face, and in jammies!

To be honest, this is more like a tinted moisturiser than a BB cream to me. It just doesn’t do enough for that wow factor. It’s a decent product, that I will admit. It’s light, non-greasy, good for oily/combination skin, and contains an SPF of 20, which is pretty good. If you’re looking for something that will last longer though, then I’d suggest you give this one a miss. If not, then do check this out if you can.

The Face Shop FaceIt Aqua Tinted BB Cream comes in two shades – Light Beige and Natural Beige, and two sizes. It retails at RM45.90 (approximately AU$14) for 20ml, and RM89.90 (approximately AU$28) for 40ml. I haven’t been to The Face Shop store at Melbourne Central for a while now, so I’m not sure if this is available in store. I’ll update this post when I know more. What I like about it: Light, non-greasy, suitable for oily/combination skin, contains SPF20, gives me just the amount of coverage I want, which is medium.

What I do not like about it: It doesn’t last very long
