ORLY Magnetic FX in Opposites Attract

Okay okay I’ll stop with all the 80s song reference. At least, for this week šŸ˜›

First of all, please excuse the conditions of my cuticles. I have a bad case of hangnail, and even with heaps of cuticle oil, hand creams and cuticle scissors, there’s barely any improvement. My nails haven’t been in the best of conditions the past few weeks, hence the lack of nail polish swatches. If you have any solutions or recommendations on how I can solve this hangnail problem of mine, please, I’m all ears.

Anyway, back to the nail polish. This time, it’s ORLY’s Magnetic FX in Opposites Attract.

It’s a stunning shade of navy blue shimmer. It sort of reminds me of the Milky Way with the magnetic effect. This shade is one of the prettiest blues I have in my collection.

Unfortunately, you can’t really see the design properly in the pictures because I had trouble getting the magnet to bring the design out. Even though I positioned the magnet close to 1mm from my nails, I couldn’t get the design to really show. It wasn’t easy positioning the magnet that close to the nails; my hands became shaky, the magnet smudged and messed the nails up. The imperfections you see on the nails (the slight knocks) were from the magnet accidentally touching the nails. I could have had them redone, but I thought I’d show you the imperfections instead because I thought they went quite well with the overall look šŸ˜›

I would have loved the design to show clearly. Otherwise, the nail polish has a great formula, very easy to apply without any dragging and remains chip-free for days.

ORLY Magnetic FX nail polish in Opposites Attract retails at AU$24.95 for 18ml. ORLY is stocked at selected nail salons and pharmacies across Australia. It is also available online at www.orlybeauty.com.au.

I wasn’t quite sure what the craze was with these magnetic polishes, but then I got one… And it clicked. It all made sense! The magnetic designs are SO cool! I’ve only tried the Sally Hansen magnetic polishes, but I’m going to have to check the Orly ones out. I didn’t even know they had magnetic polishes too!

Brianna: So many nail polish brands are getting on the magnetic polish bandwagon. I remember the very first time I saw magnetic nail polishes (this was years ago) by Lancome, and it freakin’ blew my mind. After discovering how it worked, I thought it was brilliant. Simple science + beauty = a whole new ball game. Love it šŸ™‚

Ok, I’ve only ever tried the BYS ones, but here’s the “trick” from what I’ve learned. You need a base & top coat but they have to be applied SUPER THIN. Then a THIN coat of the magnetic effects nail polish, and then that’s when the effect would work. It won’t work as well if it’s too thick. Hope that works out for you. šŸ™‚

Norlin: Well there you go. I stupidly applied TWO layers before using the magnet. *facepalm*. Beauty blogger, my backside šŸ˜› Thanks for letting me know. I’ll try it again šŸ˜›

had tried a few and i think these magnetic polishes are not really my thing.

having said that, surprisingly, i find that most of the magnetic polishes have great formula and its so easy to apply!

Xin: They do have a lovely formula, I’ll give you that. I’ve tried a number of magnetic nail polishes, and while some designs don’t really show, they’re really easy to apply.

pretty colour but boo to the design not showing properly >.<

never bothered about magnetic polishes, i find it to be too troublesome just to get the design out. i much rather have the crackle effect topcoat hehehe

Plue: Haha funny enough, I never did got on the crackle craze. Found it a little untidy for my liking. Having said that, I’ve seen new styles where the top coat doesn’t leave a crackle effect on the nails, but more of a leopard print. Now I could totally go for that! šŸ˜€

I love that shade on you – and the effects is very milkyway-ish and galatic … me likey šŸ™‚

    1. Tine

Thanks Amy. Can’t really see the magnetic effect, but the accidentally swirly bits do make it look like outer space, doesn’t it? šŸ˜›

The colour is very pretty. It’s a shame the design didn’t show up properly, but I think the effect is beautiful anyway.
