Talk To Me: Do You Use The Same Eyecream For Day and Night?

Happy Tuesday, folks!

Hope you’re having a good start to the week so far. Tuesdays have always been quite meh for me. It’s just as bad as Monday and not even past the hump of Wednesday yet. Someone pull me over to the weekend already! πŸ™‚

Today, instead of doing a product review, I thought I’d ask you a question about your skincare routine, particularly about around the eyes. Talk to me, folks.

Do you use the same eye cream for the day and night?

I didn’t start using eye cream during the day till about a year ago. I’ve only been using eye creams during the evening and thought that was sufficient. Unfortunately, well, you’ve seen the amount of fine lines under my eyes and short of a miracle (or cosmetic surgery) to get rid of that, eye cream once a day is no longer enough.

Thalgo Firming Eye Contour Gel and SKII Skin Signature Eye Cream

My eye cream arsenal are usually creams. I’m not a fan of heavy eye creams; they tend to cause millia under my eyes. I still have quite a large one under my left eye that has been there for the last 4 years that wouldn’t budge. The eye creams I tend to favour are light ones, e.g. Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Eye and Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye.

Thalgo Firming Eye Contour Gel and SKII Skin Signature Eye Cream

For the day, I tend to stick to gels. They set quicker prior to makeup compared to creams.

For the past couple of months, I’ve been using SKII’s Skin Signature Eye Cream for evenings and Thalgo’s Firming Eye Contour Gel during the day. This combination is ideal for me and produces favourable results. I find the SKII too rich to use during the day so I leave it for night use instead.

But enough about me. What about you? Do you use the same eye cream for day and night? Do you think it’s necessary to stick to one eye cream in your skincare routine? Or do you have different ones for day and evening use?

Ahh how are you finding the Bobbi Brown eye cream? Any good? Man it sure is difficult hunting for the Holy Grail of eye creams, isn’t it?

yahoo, same same. Gel for morning & cream for night.
I must admit though i go in & out with my eye care routine.

Hahaha love the same same. I find gel easier to absorb during the day and I can get about with my business quickly rather than having to wait for the cream to dry. Still searching for “the one” in eye creams. Sigh, not easy.

I use my eye cream day and night and sometimes during the day (if I am not wearing any eye makeup). Sisleya is ‘the’ one eye cream that really made a difference, and not only for a few hours. My skin is so dry, I can’t use gels anymore, I used the Caudalie vinexpert eye cream but had to stop using it – too drying. I know what you mean by ‘fine lines’. I have to admit, I was a bit lazy with eye cream back in the days but since I started to notice those fine lines, I use my sisleya regularly now and really see a difference.

Oooh that sounds good! I’d love to give that Sisleya one a try one day since you said that it really made a difference. I need something short of a miracle on my fine lines. Sigh.

To be perfectly honest, I forget to use eye cream most of the time. I know.. I know… But yes, when I do, I use the same morning and night. Rich creams give me millia too, so I stick with lighter creams and they seem to be OK during the day.

Lighter creams for day and night use sound just about right. Many times I worry if an eye cream is too rich because it just attracts millia. So far, the SKII one is okay but I have to use it real sparingly just in case.

i am using a hada labo one for day, and kielh’s for night. I am using the kielh’s for night because it has lavender and more aroma-therapeutic. but honestly, i can’t tell if the creams are working >< the black circles are still there

How are you finding the one by Hada Labo? I like the Kiehls one. Just like you, I like it ‘cos it’s lavender and relaxes me in the evening πŸ™‚

Dark circles under the eyes, sadly, only decreases with increased rest. That or a fantastic concealer πŸ™‚

Crap this reminds me, I dont even use a eye cream yet! I am scared because in the past, I would get milia seeds and they would take forever to go away. πŸ™ I need to I ain’t getting any younger haha… I will check out the EL one, I like that you said it’s light πŸ™‚

Yeah I know what you mean. The one right under my left eye won’t budge, and it’s been there for years πŸ™
The EL one is good and I saw pretty good results. No miracles, of course, but at least there’s a difference πŸ™‚

I have been only using Kiehls line-reducing eye-brightening concentrate. It worked for a little while but then it stopped working. possibly cos I haven been using it religiously. Is the midnight recovery nice? I’m so tempted to buy the package with the concentrate! I also have the eye gel that I won from your giveaway, hope they will be my day & night eye cream soon!

    1. Tine

The Kiehls Midnight Recovery worked in reducing dark circles and eye bags. Minimal reduction, mind you, but still a reduction nevertheless. It smells really good though πŸ™‚

Hahaha the eye gel … hmm … would that be from Uriage? Or was it the Thalgo one? Gee I can’t even remember what I gave away! Either way, both are also pretty good πŸ˜›

Thanks for the post because after reading so many beauty blogs for the last two months, I have noticed that a lot of beauty bloggers tend to use a different eye cream in the morning and at night.

I have been using many different eye creams from drugstore to high-end brands for years due to my dark eye circles. For the last three years, I have been using an eye cream (it comes with a small pump) from I Skin which is a salon brand from New York both day and night. It seems to have lightened my dark eye circles at least for the first two years of usage but I guess it has stopped working?

I have tried the sample pack of Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye at night for one month. I am not sure it made much of a difference to my eyes though. I have just started with Estee Lauder’s ANREye but I am not holding my breath that this would work either. I guess like you said, dark eye circles could only reduce through a good night sleep and a good concealer. Lol. But at least with all these creams, my eye area is hydrated and does not have too many fine lines.

    1. Tine

Thanks for your comment, Victoria. When an eye cream has stopped working, I say it’s high time you search for another one! At least, that’s what I do and it’s fun to look around πŸ˜›

I don’t expect miracles in eye creams and when I review them, I make sure people don’t either. Like you said, as long as the eye area is well hydrated and not have too many fine lines, I’m happy enough. Anything more than that will deem the eye cream excellent πŸ˜›

  9. Zoe

This post has just reminded me how lazy I am with eye cream, if I use too much I am prone to millia as well so I blame that! At the moment I am alternating between a Michael Todd organically one and a Body Shop Nutriganics one, I like them both, I just need to remember to use them!

  10. Beauty Box

Definitely separate eye creams for me for day and night – I think my night eye cream is a bit too heavy for my oily eye area especially since I wear makeup too. I used to even slick on the Kiehl’s eye sunscreen stick above and below my eyes and it was just too much and my eye makeup would just swim around, so I stick to a light but hydrating eye cream for day time. And it’s also an excuse to try two eye creams at once – these suckers take forever to finish and I’m too impatient to wait 6-8 months to try a new one haha πŸ˜‰

Hahahahah you are a woman after my own heart! Your last line is EXACTLY why I use two eye creams a day! BAAHAHHAHAHAHA!! πŸ˜€

  11. Jennifer

I only started using eye cream because it was a GWP when I purchased my first set of “luxurious” skincare from Estee Lauder. I loved the ANR Eye Cream and continued to use the GWP. Then for some reason, I was afraid that the few small jars of 5ml stash will soon finish, so I held my breath, patted my pocket and purchased the 15ml full sized one πŸ™‚ I only use eye cream at night as I have oily skin. Recently I got the Dior Capture Totale Eyes Essential Serum deluxe size sample. That felt good upon application too. As I have a very bad habit of rubbing my eyes when I wash my face, hopefully by using eye cream diligently, it will keep the lines at bay. You got me tempted to try the SK-II one πŸ™‚

    1. Tine

My very first ANR eye cream was also a GWP! What a great way to try out new things, eh? πŸ˜› I’ve heard great things about the Dior Capture Totale line, and am thinking of getting the serum to try. It’s one of Paris B’s (of MyWomenStuff.com) favourite too πŸ™‚
I hear you on the eye rubbing bit. I’m guilty of it too >.<

  12. Issa

yes, I use the same eye cream for day and night. i just stick to the lighter ones too because I had a milia seed before when I used a thick eye cream, good thing it disappeared over time. πŸ™‚

    1. Tine

Lucky you, the millia seed disappeared! Did you do anything different? Did you do anything to it? I can’t get mine to go away, the blasted thing >.<

      1. Issa

no, I did not do anything because i cannot find a solution myself. i just stopped the eye cream I was using then it just disappeared over time. i was getting worried at that time too….

        1. Tine

That’s good to know. I know that they usually go away on their own. Most of mine does, but it’s just this particular one’s that so incredibly stubborn. Sigh.

  13. fiseel

Frankly, I can’t use any eye cream nor eye gel as my eye area are super sensitive, once I applied something to it, 2-3 days later there will be a new millia on my eye lids & the under eye area. No matter how they claim that their product is not oily nor what… my eyes are just super sensitive that I just say no to eye product. Even when I am given eye gel as tester…. I’ll ask the beautician to give me something else. It’s really that bad

    1. Tine

Oh my, that’s sensitive! Best to stay away from any sort of lotions and potions around that area then. Don’t want to risk millia seeds growing here and there >.<

  14. Harajuku Girl FL

I use the same eye cream day and night time. The AMOREPACIFIC Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Eye Treatment Gel is really light so I can use it during the day and its not greasy.

I do use a different face cream at night though.

Haha good to know! As long as it works day and night, not necessary to use a separate one at all. By the way, I saw your post on winning a recent giveaway. Awesome prizes! πŸ™‚

  15. Michelle Beh

Hello Tine! I had been using Midnight Recovery Concentrate eye cream for day and night! Haha! I guess I’m too lazy to use 2 different eyes cream for both day and night. =)

    1. Tine

Haha that’s good. As long as it works for you all day, that’s good enough! Unfortunately, I find the MRC eye cream a tad rich for my day use but evening use is not a problem at all. Plus it smells really good, doesn’t it? πŸ™‚

  16. VNikol

I use the same eye cream for day & evening. I notice best results when I apply it twice. I use Biolements Multi Task, good stuff.

  17. Bugs

I prefer lighter eye gel for day n richer cream for night, but at the moment I’m using Cosme Decorte Liposome Eye for day n night as I’m on hydration products now.

1 step I’d like to share which really makes a difference to me is, after massaging or tapping the eye cream in (whichever method you use), warm your palms then lightly press the balls of your palm over your eye area. I like to repeat 3 times and I always rub my palms together to get them really warm. It helps the cream penetrate better.

    1. Bugs

And oh, the Sisleya one…( eye and lip contour cream) the one in white cream is really super NICEEEEE !!!! Once I got a 1.5ml sample sachet, and guess what, I can see result . But, as always …. The price tag of Rm530 … >_< ouch !!!

      1. Tine

        RM530?! *pengsan*

    2. Tine

Oooh thanks for your tip, Bugs! Great idea. I’m going to try that out tonight πŸ˜€
