L’Oreal Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC Cream: Finally, A CC Cream That Corrects Colour! Or Does It?

BB, CC, DD creams. Are these double-alphabet creams ever going to come to an end? Needless to say, BB creams are the makeup du jour. Every other brand is coming up with one. Now there are even CC creams. CC creams claim to be the new and improved version of BB creams as it promises colour correction.

Sadly, none of the CC creams I’ve tried thus far offer what CC creams are meant to offer – the colour correction. The Rachel K and Chanel CC creams are merely BB creams. They work like foundation on the skin that provide sufficient coverage and even out the skin tone. There’s no balancing of redness or adding of brightness to the skin.

L'Oreal Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC Cream

Lo and behold the new L’Oreal CC cream, which promises to neutralise redness for a perfect nude look. Now this is the colour correction I was waiting for! It acts with the redness on the skin. Finally, something that does what it claims.

Or does it?

Description:

L'Oreal Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC Cream

The L’Oreal Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC Cream works just like the Nude Magique BB Cream. Instead of a white lotion that comes out of the bottle, it’s a light green one. Like the BB cream, this one is also slightly grainy to the touch and when spread out on the skin, the green lotion transforms to the shade of your skin. The Anti-Redness CC cream only comes in 1 shade, which unfortunately is a shade too dark for me. Still, I was game on trying this out on my skin. It does go on green on the skin but after spreading it out quickly, it turns to a shade of brown. In terms of coverage, it’s a light-medium, just like the BB cream.

L'Oreal Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC Cream Swatch

Here’s a quick recap on what my skin is like. I have an oily T-zone, normal-if-not-slightly-dehydrated cheeks and a sometimes spotty chin. I don’t have any severe redness on my skin, but I do have red patches around my nose and sometimes, the chin. If I tuck my upper lip inwards, it pulls the skin above my lip downwards and you’ll be able to clearly see tiny red vessels below my nose. These areas of redness are the parts I’d like to neutralise with the CC cream.

Now the problem I have with the CC cream is that, since I’m lucky not to suffer from rosacea or acne, I don’t have redness on my cheeks and forehead. When the CC cream does not have red areas to neutralise, the slight greenish tint makes the skin appear sallow. It makes my warm skin appear more yellow and I look sickly. My skin looks dull. It looked like I’ve been ill or stuck indoors for a long time. Even though the CC cream does spread out to match the skin colour, there still is that slight greenish tint that counteracts with the redness on the skin. It’s the lack of redness on certain areas of my skin that the CC cream cannot work with, hence making me look rather green around the gills.

L'Oreal Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC Cream Before and After

But, and this is a very big BUT, the redness around my nose is neutralised. It colour-corrected the redness around my nose well, especially covering the tiny red vessels below and around my nose. It finally does what a CC cream is supposed to do.

What does this mean for me and you? For me, I cannot use this all over my face. As I don’t have a lot of redness to neutralise, instead of doing its job, the Anti-Redness CC cream made me look worse. Not its fault, of course, since it cannot neutralise what my skin mostly doesn’t have. Instead, what it thinks it’s counteracting made my skin look worse. However, it did a good job around my nose. So the way I see it, I should only use this around my nose, but use another BB cream to go over the rest of my face.

L'Oreal Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC Cream

For you, if you have a lot of redness on your skin, this might work. I’m not saying it will definitely work because I’ve not seen this used on someone with a lot of redness on the skin so I cannot vouch for its efficacy. But I can say that it did a good job on my red nose, so it might help counteract your redness too. The only way to see if it works is to try it out in store. Check out the tester, squeeze some on the back of your hand and apply it on the red areas of your skin. Leave the store and check your skin in natural light and see if it counteracted your redness. If so, it’s definitely something to consider purchasing. If not (if your skin looks duller than before), oh well, on to the next CC cream! πŸ˜›

So, for something that claims colour correction and corrects the colour, I’d say that L’Oreal got it right. Sadly, only my nose can claim victory. It just wouldn’t work for the rest of my skin. In a way, I’m glad it doesn’t. This means that I don’t need anti-redness colour correction, and for that, I’m very blessed. πŸ™‚

L’Oreal Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC Cream retails at $26.95 and is available at most pharmacies, deparment stores and variety stores nationwide.

What I like about it: Light-textured, neutralised the redness around my nose.

What I do not like about it: Only available in 1 shade, made the non-red areas of my skin appear dull and sallow

I predicted a while ago that ZZ cream is coming soon (LOL) and why am I still not seeing it yet?! LOL. The result of this is decent, but I don’t know if it’s enough reason for me to go out and get one. Although I don’t have redness around my nose, I do have some on my cheeks. But they get covered by foundations any ways.

Zit Zappers (TM)! πŸ˜€ That’s true; most foundations cover redness anyway. I think this will work for people with a lot of redness, not the ones with just a bit here and there.

Haha, you were right! They do have CC and DD now. Somehow when I see DD I think of a bra, sad I know. It’s like every bad cup size joke all rolled into one.

The colour in your photo looks good, but that may just be my screen. Perhaps it’s just too much green, even if it does blend out. I had a green colour corrector many many years ago and it gave the same effect when applied too heavily.

I predict the next big thing will be A+ or ABC cream lol. Not sure what it will mean, but it looks marketable. πŸ™‚

    1. Tine

Nah I know what you mean. It photographed all right on my screen too, but in real life, it does not look good all over my face. It has the slightest hint of green that just makes my skin look sallow. It’s all right on my nose though.

Haha ABC cream! Acne+Blemish+Colour Correction? This would market very well with the likes of Proactive, I think πŸ˜›

      1. Kaye

Haha! I literally laughed out loud at your Acne+Blemish+Colour Correction name, that is actually a really good idea lol. Quick!! File a patent or something before someone steals your idea πŸ™‚

Maybe a ZZ cream would roll into town soon enough πŸ˜‰ Just a suggestion, maybe you can just apply this at your reddish areas (nose, any rising pimple *touchwood*) first and then top it with your usual BB/foundie/concealer. It’d reduce the redness so that when you apply the BB/foundie, you’d have an even-toned complexion.

    1. Tine

That’s a good tip! Kind of like a concealer! Thanks Jess πŸ˜€

      1. Jessica W

Yep, kinda like a concealer πŸ™‚ Happy trying and let me know if it works!

If it only does the correction on certain red spots on the skin, then, it works just the same as other green concealers.. Does it cost cheaper than good green concealers? Coz if it does, then maybe this would be a good alternative for one, then just use regular foundation for the rest of your face..

Or.. hmm.. will it make it look better if you put a thin layer of powder after the CC cream? Would it be able to lessen (if not totally eliminate) the green tone across the face?

    1. Tine

Cost per use for the CC cream as a concealer would definitely be a lot cheaper than actual concealers since you only use so little as a concealer per time and there’s a LOT of CC cream to go through πŸ™‚

I’ve tried dusting a thin layer of powder over the CC cream. Pretty much still the same. Sigh.

First BB creams were a huge thing and almost every brand introduced their version of BB cream and nowadays every one is talking about CC creams let’s see what comes next. Thanks for the honest review I think it won’t work for me because just like you I don’t have any redness on my face and I have a yellow undertone in my skin so I guess it’s not for me .

    1. Tine

Yeah, it will definitely be interesting to see what comes next. I know that the UK has come up with a DD cream, but it’s more of a sun protection cream (Daily Defence) for the body, I think.

      1. sataa

oh really I didn’t know there was a DD cream I saw you mentioned DD in the start of your post I thought you were just writing DD for fun, if it’s some kind of sun protection cream then maybe it would be something worth trying I hope you will be able to review it on your blog soon

        1. Tine

Hahaha I wished it was for fun but no really, there’s news about a DD cream from the UK. That’s all I know for now. But if I do get my hands on it, I’ll be sure to review it here πŸ™‚

          1. Millie

In Australia, I’ve seen a dermatologically defining cream! I feel like they are just trying to continue the trend!

  6. Adi

Wish i could try it, it looks really good! but they dont sell it where i live… im too scared to order it online then it wouldnt be worth it…

    1. Tine

I know what you mean. It’s scary ordering something you can’t even see or feel first . I think that if you don’t have a lot of redness on your skin, you can safely skip this.

I got a free sample of this, L’Oreal CC Cream – Anti Redness. I loved it! As well as calming my red patchy bits, it gave me a lovely natural tint. I don’t even feel the need to wear my normal foundation today!

With the texture being so thin and cream like, I did not expect such great coverage! I was truely amazed by how this product ,made me look.

Certainly a booster to the self confidence, and worth a try!

    1. Tine

Great to know it works for you Louu! πŸ™‚

PS: Thanks for sharing the link x

  8. LiMiJoo

Well I have to say this doesn’t look very good, this “beige” skin doesn’t look natural, it instead looks very dull to me!

    Thank you for you review!

    1. Tine

My pleasure. I know right? I think this will work better for skin that has a lot of redness because it will counteract skin that doesn’t have a lot of redness and make it look very dull.

  9. Kimberlie

Wow, thanks for the great review! I have a lot of redness on my skin, so I am looking forward to trying this product, but I have really oily and acne-prone skin. Is this oil free (because I’ve looked everywhere, and it doesn’t say anything about it) and/or non-comedonegenic? As much as it might correct the redness, creating more pimples is not a good idea!

    1. Tine

Yep this is oil-free and non-comedogenic. At least, it doesn’t block my pores at all πŸ˜› It didn’t break me out at all.

      1. Kimberlie

Wow, thank you! I’m really looking forward to trying it now!

  10. Megan

As a Rosacea sufferer myself, I really want to give this product a go but your review like many others is fairly mixed. Thanks for such a great post xx

    1. Tine

Thanks Megan. The thing is, I can’t really test this product to its full extent because I don’t suffer from rosacea. The only bit of redness I do get is around my nose, which can be covered with foundation. Green is meant to counteract redness but given that I have such strong yellow undertones and not much redness, it tends to look dull and sickly on my skin. I wouldn’t strike this product off for good; if possible, do try it out on yourself to see if it works. πŸ™‚

  11. Katness

I will admit you do not need a full coverage c.c. redness cream. From the photos you showed…it made you look better. Your overall tone looked much different than what you described.
That being said I have tried this product on my very pale skin…with a lot of redness/rosacea areas.
It was darker than I’m used to but it blended really well. Put my own foundation over it ( special occasion) wow…I was amazed at my pics.
For non occasions I wear it alone with powder. So light. I have noticed since I started that it has left my skin feeling nice and smooth.
Not a make up girl but thought I had to try this for redness. I’m 47 and have been just buying foundation in darker colors….yea I’m the one with the beige face and porcelain neck. But with this cc cream maybe I can be the blender…yeah.

You just weren’t red enough for the product.
