Beauty Experience: Blow Dry Bar @ Melbourne Central

Experience:

  • Blow dry bars are very popular in the US and I’m glad they brought the services here too.
  • I’ve been wanting to try ever since I heard about the Collins St branch last year. In fact, I walked up to the branch once to get my hair done but had to leave because they were too busy that day and I wasn’t willing to wait. The opportunity to try out the one at Docklands came about a few months ago but I couldn’t make it at the last minute as I was sick.
  • I was thinking perhaps the Blow Dry Bar and I aren’t meant to be until a couple of weeks ago when I was offered the chance to try out a complimentary blow dry at the Melbourne Central branch. Funny thing was, I didn’t even know Melbourne Central had one and I’ve been there countless of times!
  • This time, I was determined to try it out once and for all, by hook or by crook. Thank goodness, the latter didn’t have to happen. 😛
  • The Blow Dry Bar at Melbourne Central recently celebrated their 1st anniversary and I was fortunate to be able to have stylist Jen Ryan to do her blow dry magic on me.
  • Blow Dry Bar isn’t just about blow waves; they also have a full hair service e.g. styling, treatments, hair colour, etc.
  • The salon setup is very chic with lots of black, red and metallic walls at the hairwash area.
  • They also have a menu of hair treatments apart from their regular hair service. The one that I had, Quick Fix, is the most popular treatment because it’s very quick yet nourishing to the hair.
  • The blow dry process doesn’t take very long. For a hair wash, quick treatment and blow wave, you’ll be in and out of the salon in 45 minutes or less. Very convenient for some lunch break pampering. 😛

Products Used:
Blow Dry Bar uses ELEVEN Australia haircare products. I can’t remember the exact shampoo, conditioner and hair treatment that Jen used but the serum that she used on my hair prior to blowdrying was the ELEVEN Miracle Hair Treatment that adds shine and smoothness to the hair.

Verdict:

  • Even though the hair service was a quick one, every step of the process was a good one. Nothing felt rushed. Jen even gave me a head massage when giving me the Quick Fix treatment (the massage is part of the treatment and not because it’s a complimentary service).
  • Jen checked with me how I wanted my hair done, making sure I like what is done for my hair.
  • The Melbourne Central branch does about 50% walk-ins and 50% appointments. During weekends, they have a hairstylist handling walk-ins only. If you don’t mind waiting, depending on the number of customers they have, it’s usually only about an hour’s wait.
  • I enjoyed the service at Blow Dry Bar and will definitely be back! 🙂

Hi Tine, looks like you had a fab time! 🙂 love how they styled your hair!

There is only 1 similar type of business that I’m aware of in Adelaide (& it’s in the CBD = not necess. convenient) but I hope the concept grows here! 🙂

    You look great, Tine!

I’ve a few friends who use this service in their lunchbreaks and recommend it too. Might need to try it out for myself – thanks for the reminder! x
