For day 1 of VAMFF, I headed backstage for the David Jones Opening Night to see how the hair and makeup was done.

Opening night’s hair screams 4S – straight, shine, sleek and sophistication. That’s what L’Oreal Professional hair directors, Caterina Di Biase and Brad Ngata were going for. It’s youthful, it’s easy to wear especially come winter (hair covering the neck, sleek and straight to the front, keeping the neck warm? Who needs a scarf? Wait, forget I said that last bit) and best of all, it’s easy to recreate.

Hit the hair with a flat iron (they used the L’Oreal Professional Steampod) and give the ends heaps of shine with the L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil Milk. The Oil Milk was used instead of the original Mythic Oil as it’s a lot lighter on the hair. It’s on trend and if I still had long hair, it’s definitely something I’d wear on a daily basis. Okay, maybe not with hair parted in the middle because goodness knows that’s not a good look on me. 😛

For the second hair look, again it’s straight, shiny and sleek hair but this time, pulled back to a low ponytail.

I had a bit of a nosey about at the makeup area and I had the opportunity to see L’Oreal Paris’ new makeup director, Elsa Morgan at work. Opening night’s makeup takes the cat-eye winged liner look to a whole new level. It’s bold and incredibly sharp. To create that precise winged look, lots of tape was used. There I was wondering why models were walking around with tape near their eyes. Duh. 😛
