Rediscovering An Oldie: Bourjois Blush in Rose D’Or

Bourjois Blush in 34 Rose D'or

The Rose D’or blush was the very first item I bought from Bourjois when I discovered the brand at Priceline years ago. I’ve read so much of Bourjois in magazines, especially the Rose D’Or blush that I knew I had to get it.

Perhaps the one I bought was a lemon because I was sorely disappointed in it. The baked blush was so hard and gritty; I felt as though I was scraping the product with my brush. And when I finally managed to get a bit of blush scrap on the brush, it felt gritty upon application. It took me two more tries before I gave up. I can’t even remember if I gave that blush away, sold it or chucked it!

Anyway, a few months ago, there was a promotion by Bourjois at Priceline. If I spent over a certain amount of money on Bourjois makeup, I get a small Bourjois gift pack (tsk tsk they do know how to tempt you, don’t they?). I was already going to get the Happy Light foundation and primer anyway so the gift with purchase was a nice bonus. One of the items in the gift pack was a Rose D’Or blush.

I was hesitant to try it out again. Should I just give it to someone else or give it another go? As if I don’t have enough blushes, I decided to give it another chance.

It could be that the previous one I had had a poor formula because the current one is so much better. It’s still the same classic pink shade with quite a lot of shimmer. However, the texture of the baked blush is so much better. It’s not dry, hard nor gritty. I didn’t feel as though I needed to scrape the baked powder for a hint of colour, something which I had to do with the old Rose D’Or.

The blush is beautiful on the cheeks with a perfect amount of flush pop. It does contain a lot of shimmer so if you’re applying shimmery highlighter above the cheekbones, either tone the blush or the highlighter down or you’ll be a sparkling disco ball.

I’m so glad I decided to give this a try again. I really did think it was going to be gritty and awful again like my last Rose D’Or but I’m so glad the new one proved me wrong. Maybe you did switch your formula after all, Bourjois. Whatever it is, well done on the improvement. It’s a welcomed rediscovery. The enclosed brush is still rubbish but the blush, well, you’re all right with me. 😛

Have you tried the classic Bourjois Rose D’Or before? Did you like it?

I saw this in my drawer the other day! I think you might really have bought a lemon the last time 🙁 I know they’re baked but I’ve never had issues with it before. The only issue I had was the scent. *gag* It’s a great blush – LOVE IT 🙂

Yeah I really must have. Must be an old, ready to expire one because that old one I had was utter rubbish. It was so hard! Yeah, it does have quite a strong scent, typical of Bourjois. Still, it’s a beautiful one. Glad I rediscovered it and that it’s finally a good one.

Rose d’or is a gorgeous one! I have it but in the old formula. It does harden I’d agree (like Chanel which isn’t surprising given their relationship) but the colour is freaking gorgeous. Thanks for reminding me of this. I’m going to dig out my Bourjois blushes and see if they’re still good to use. Like legeeque I didn’t like the scent. Far too freaking strong! Have they toned that down?

The scent is still quite strong, typical of Bourjois’ fragrance in their products. Surprisingly didn’t bother me all that much (I usually would be complaining till the cows come home already 😛 ). It’s nice, isn’t it, rediscovering oldies that have become goodies? 🙂

Wow I think I used to own this same blush as well and had the same dramas with it being hard and just impossible to pick up any product so I ended up getting rid of it. I could never understand the hype but if the formula has been improved I may be willing to give them a second chance because they’re just so cute!

Haha I know right? I think given that it’s a baked powder product, I think it will still harden with time. I have a suspicious feeling that my old one was really old and probably already expired. Could be why it was so difficult to use. Had to scrape at it hard!

Oh I have forgotten this too- wore this for years and one of the champagne shadows… must revisit!

Hahaha many of you forgot you have this! Me too! 😛

I find I have that problem with their really shimmer-ey/glitter-ey blushes, but the matte ones are perfect!

Ooh I’ve not tried their matte blushes, only this one and you’re right, it’s pretty glittery. I must check out their matte blushes now. Hopefully the formula will be good too and not gritty and chalky.

I think I still have this somewhere although I haven’t used it in ages. Must look for it and give it some much deserved love. It’s a gorgeous colour indeed, and I love the formula, even if it does harden.

Ooh do check yours out if you still have it and if it has hardened a lot. If it’s really old, then this will be a reminder for you to throw it out! 😀
