I’m Back!

Miyajima Japan

Miyajima

Happy Friday folks!

I just got back from Japan yesterday and let me tell you, what a relief it was to sleep in my bed again. You know how it is; you can have an awesome holiday, which was what I had, but at the end of the day, you just want your bed. And stinky pillow/bolster. No? Just me? Alrighty then. 😛

Nagasaki Peace Park

Nagasaki Peace Park

Ahh what a fabulous holiday it was. If you’ve been following me on Instagram and Twitter (hashtag: #tinetravels), you’ll have seen some of my holiday photos. I ate a lot, walked a lot, saw a lot and shopped a whole lot. Tim and I almost bought the Uniqlo store back with us no thanks to their amazing sales. 😉

Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Building

Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome)

This time, we headed to Osaka, Nagasaki, Miyajima, Hiroshima, Kobe and Nara. Seeing atomic bomb hypocenters and peace museums at Nagasaki and Hiroshima was a very sombering moment (at one point, we had to leave the Hiroshima Peace Museum without completing the tour because it got too overwhelming for us). Other than that, all of the cities we went to were absolutely lovely.

Osaka Castle

I won’t be doing a recap of my trip this time because there’s just way too much to talk about but I will be giving you some tips on travelling to Japan soon in case any of you are interested in visiting the beautiful country. I highly recommend that you do because you will fall in love with her just as much as we did.

Todaiji Shrine

Todaiji Shrine, Nara

Oh and if you’re interested in seeing my beauty haul from Japan, do let me know. I didn’t buy as much beauty products as I normally would and trust me, it took heaps of restraint not to go batshit crazy at Matsumoto Kiyoshi (their version of our Priceline but 100% better). But I did pick up a few sneaky things from SUQQU and duty-free makeup so again, let me know if you want to have a peek!

We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled program very soon. Have a lovely weekend!

How awesome was Japan, right? I wanna see your haul too! 😀

Welcome back! The museum in Hiroshima is very intense isn’t it, sobering is definitely the right word! I managed to complete the museum tour but not without covering my eyes at a few points… I also vote yes for a haul post, would love to see what you picked up, although it will make me want to go back to Japan to do my own hauling all that bit more! 🙂

The posters of death at the museums were really overwhelming. That was what made me cover my eyes too. But I’m glad I went there nevertheless. Very good experience and to see the tremendous level of damage nuclear weapons do, that just blew my mind.

    Looks fantastic!
Hope you had a good break and time of rest 🙂

    1. Tine

I did! Didn’t have much time to rest as we walked a lot! Couldn’t feel my feet at the end of each day because they were so sore from walking. 😛

Your pix are fabulous! I must look for you on IG to see the rest. The architecture and shrines are so beautiful. And yes, let’s see that haul!

I love the mix of old and new architecture in Japan. They can have very modern buildings standing next to a hundred year old temple! 😛

How to overcome missing your own bed and chou chou? I bring my chou chou along on trips!! HAHA! I think I might have even brought it along to B’s house last year…

    1. Tine

HAHAHAHA! Usually if I’m away for over a month, I have to bring my smelly ol’ bolster with me. It’s surprising how I survived without it last year when I was away for 5 weeks. When I had to travel to Japan for work years ago, I had to bring the bolster with me. Having said that, I’m usually worried about bringing it travelling with me in case I lost it. That’s one heck of a priceless item man!

YES PLEASE – show us your haul!! I’d really love you to do a blog on Asian products – I’m over all the stuff you can get here but don’t know where to start with Asian beauty prods. I use several different Asian BB creams but don’t really know where to start on skincare products. I’m going to HK in Sept and would love to have an idea of what to get. I’ve been in the past but haven’t bought much as there’s just so much to choose from and none of the brands are familiar.

    1. Tine

I don’t use that many Asian beauty products (makeup or skincare) mainly because they’re not easily available here. Even when they are, they’re ridiculously overpriced. Best to check out Japanese and Korean brands. I’m not familiar with many Korean brands but for Japanese ones, as long as they’re under the Shiseido, Kanebo and Kose umbrellas, you’ll be find. Hada Labo is good too. Go to SASA in Hong Kong and try out the ones you’ve not heard before. 😛

      1. Jane

I already know about SASA – it’s HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been to HK a couple of times but this time I want to be more adventurous about what I buy so I’ll be guided by the brands you suggest – many thanks. I’m particularly interested in exploring cleansing oils – the only one I’ve found available here is from Sanctuary Spa (Priceline) which I really love. I’m sure there are others available in higher end brands but I usually stick with the cheaper stuff! Can you advise either a Japanese one for me to source in HK or are there others available here in Australia that I haven’t found yet?

        1. Tine

Nah, you’ll get good stuff with the cheaper stuff anyway so you might as well just stick to it. For cleansing oils, try the one by Biore (you can’t get it here). Can’t remember the exact name but it’s in a pink bottle. I think it’s just as good as the Shu Uemura ones, to be honest. I’m not sure if Kanebo Blanchir still does cleansing oils; those were the first ones I’ve tried. Oh and when you’re there, get facial sheet masks. Cheap as and good to use.
