More Random Facts About Me (aka Things I’m Not A Fan Of)

Live Well, Laugh Hard, Love Big

I stuck this on my bathroom door. Doesn’t really go with the context of this post but eh, it’s pretty. πŸ˜›

Happy end-of-the-week!

Since it’s a Friday and I’m not really feeling up to talking about beauty products today, I thought I’d do something a little different and share some random facts about me with you.

I wouldn’t really call this so much of a random fact sheet about me; it’s more of an *ahem* rant sheet. There are many things I love in life but given that I’m also human, there are also a lot of things that I dislike. So let’s call this a “Things Tine Aren’t A Fan Of” list, shall we? πŸ˜‰

1. I think Beyonce is overrated. *insert horrified face emoji* I know, talk about dropping a bomb from the get-go here. I’m going to cop a good amount of flak for this because goodness knows how many fans she has. It’s not that I don’t like her or that I don’t admire her for her achievements because she definitely has achieved a lot in life and deserves her success. However, she’s not the only one who has done so. All those “what would Beyonce do?” and similar quotes on Instagram and Pinterest are pointless to me because I really wouldn’t care what she’d do in particular situations. I’d look towards people who are far more relatable to me who have achieved a lot of success in life. Now what would THEY do?

2. I don’t like rose gold. I first stumbled upon it 10 years ago when it became very popular in Japan and I used to call it the “cheap” version of gold. I’ve long changed my mind about it and while I’m still not a fan, I can understand why a lot of people love it because it does flatter certain skin tones very well. Just not mine.

3. I’m obsessed with planning and organisational topics in blog posts and YouTube videos but I’m not an organised person. Well, not really.

4. I can’t stand wearing pointy shoes but I love looking at them on the shelves and on other people.

5. I dislike the smell and taste of coconut anything. I don’t like coconut water, I can’t stand the smell of coconut oil (I tolerate it only because coconut oil does wonders for my hair), and too much coconut milk makes me sick.

6. I don’t like the smell of jasmine either. Too much of it makes me want to throw up.

7. I don’t like doughnuts, especially the glazed kind.

8. I’m not a fan of macarons either. They taste all right, I guess, but most are too sweet for my liking. If it’s on a dessert menu, it’s the last thing I would order. Having said that, they do look very pretty in photographs.

9. I don’t like deconstructed food. If it’s supposed to be in one piece, keep it in one piece and don’t faff around with it. Deconstructing food is just lazy. Clearly I’ve been watching far too many episodes of My Kitchen Rules and Masterchef and think I’m some sort of a great cook. I’m not.

10. I can’t stand the sound of a ticking clock. I only have a digital clock in my bedroom and any analogue clocks in the house must have minimal ticking sounds. I once had a facial where the beauty therapist used a ticking clock to time her session and it almost drove me bonkers.

11. I hate the phrase F**k My Life (or better known as FML). I really do. My life was given to me by God and my parents, and no matter how shitty my day is, especially when absolutely nothing is going my way, I’d never think FML. I know that a lot of people say it in jest but to me, life is a blessing, not f**ked.

12. I don’t really like the taste of wine and have only tasted very few of ones I’d have more than a glass of. I prefer cocktails. I love sake.

13. I dislike black tea. I’ve had a lot of them growing up and it’s really not my thing whether it’s sweetened with sugar or honey, or with milk. Green and herbal teas are my choice of tea beverages.

14. I don’t like to think that I’m a superstituous sort of person but given my idiosyncrasies, who am I kidding here? You and I know I’m only writing this because I don’t like to end with #13.

Go on, join in the fun. What are the little things that you don’t like that people don’t really know about? It’s time to spill the beans!

I am not horrified by #1 because yes – Beyonce is over-rated as much as the Kardashians. In general, I like her and her music, but it’s just over fame. I don’t need to see Beyonce on msn.com 24/7.

I like black tea better than green tea, but drink green tea because I know it’s healthy.

I don’t like beets and I think oysters look like big o’l boogers. I ain’t eatin’ either one.

    Happy weekend to you too!!

Oh, don’t even get me started on the Kardashians. I could do a whole blog post about that but I’m not going to bore you guys with my rant on the Ks. πŸ˜›

LOL to oysters like big ol’ boogers! I’ve never heard it mentioned that way and I don’t think I can ever look at another oyster the same way again! πŸ˜›

  2. LeGeeque

    1. I dislike cooking shows. They make me irrationally hungry and I feel depressed knowing I’d never be able to replicate what they did.
    2. I dislike reality TV. They’re far from real. Make that I hate most Australian TV shows. They’re crap. Masterchef? Dramachef, more like it. The last time I wept when I was in the kitchen was because I ran out of wines πŸ˜›
    3. I hate radio stations. It’s inane chatter and I prefer to listen to my music. Traffic reports? Meh. It’s crap wherever I drive in the morning anyway.

    That’ll do πŸ™‚

    1. Tine

How the heck are you and I friends??? πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

      1. LeGeeque

BECAUSE THERE’S MORE TO LIFE THAN WHAT WE’VE LISTED ABOVE AND OUR BOND GOES BEYOND THE TANGIBLES OF THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! πŸ˜€

PS-and because you larp me long long taim. larp you long long taim too x

I Loved reading this post! I also don’t like glazed donuts but I do like the fresh cinnamon sugar ones. My hubby hates ticking clocks and watches but I don’t ‘hear’ them ticking haha. I don’t like wine either!! Every time I go out, I would try some thinking maybe this time it will be different… but no.

Heheheh thanks! Ahhh sugared doughnuts, I like. Those popular glazed Krispy Kreme-styled ones? Not at all.
You can’t hear ticking clocks? So lucky! I can hear my watch ticking from across the room and it drives me bonkers.

    1) Another non-believer in ‘the sun shines out of Beyonce’s butt’. Sure – some catchy tunes but really? :/ I have a very mature and cynical friend I tend to think ‘what would Q do?’ As her cynical nature balances my overly optimistic one so I tend to get a good midway there πŸ˜›

    2) ditto on the organisational stuff. Sigh.

    3) I do like baby food. Well..pouches of pureed fruit. So wrong I know. I can’t stand the fact its such a million dollar industry though – how’s about you make your own baby food for you – your own baby? No nasty stuff in it then. But yeah – that would mean effort (laziness totally annoys me)

    4) People having over estimation of what they *need* in life. You *need* oxygen/water/basic food/human touch/warmth. Thats it. You DO NOT *need* the latest Prada bag or *need* a new car. You want it.

    5) I don’t get why more people just can’t be nice. And honest – if I ask you yes or no, just tellme yes or no….the lies always hurt far more than the truth :/

There’s more. I’m in grumpy pants mode at the moment I’m afraid so this probably is.not my most pleasant post ever. Sorry bout that.

    Now……breathe πŸ˜›

    1. Tine

I don’t understand why so many people love Beyonce. I agree, good music, catchy tunes, blah blah blah but that’s it. What would Beyonce do? Er, don’t know, don’t care. πŸ˜›

#4: But I need that new bag, dammit! πŸ˜›

#5: Hell yes. Don’t get it either. Is it harder to be nice or nasty? I find it so much harder to be nasty.

  5. Mel

I can’t believe you don’t like rose gold, I’m crazy about it, but alas, different people like different things.
Some of my pet hates are:
    1. People wearing clothes that really really don’t suit their body type or are really the wrong size. I respect people’s different styles, and appreciate that, but with the right cut item of clothing, it can make you look 10x better!
    2. Beauty Youtubers who all sound the same.
    3. Gossip!

Hahaha yeah, rose gold is definitely not for me. I must say though, it does look very beautiful on certain skin tones. Looks horrid on me. Takes all kinds of people to make the world, I say! πŸ™‚

      #2 – ding ding ding!

  6. Allison

Oh, how interesting, Tine! Beyonce really isn’t on my radar screen. I’m not interested in pop music of any kind. And I especially hate country music that is so annoyingly popular in the US now. In fact, I listen to classical, opera and jazz so that puts me in a tiny minority. I ignore most celeb stuff ‘coz it doesn’t interest me. I’m glad you’re allowing those of us who love rose gold to continue to love it. It looks especially good on us pale girls with red hair πŸ˜‰ I like wine AND cocktails, but I only drink beer with food. I have about a zillion other annoyances, but none that I can think of mentioning in public right now

OMG I love classical, opera AND jazz!! So we’re in the tiny minority together, whee! πŸ˜€
Hahahaha oh dear, I think I should have prefaced the blog post with “don’t hate me for hating rose gold” instead of “don’t hate me for not liking Beyonce”. Oooops! πŸ˜›

Oh I have heaps more annoyances but any more and it’s going to turn this blog post into a major whinge fest.

  7. Asha

    Hmm…let’s see:
    1) I don’t mind Beyonce, I don’t see what all the big fuss is about but I don’t mind her.
    2) Love rose gold, I’m one of the people whose skin tone it suits! Got my Michael Kors watch in rose gold and I love the heck outta that thing!
    3) Fellow control freak…HI!
    4) I love beautiful shoes but I’m also a giant wimp, my boss teases me because whenever I go into meetings with clients I wear flats on the way there and change into heels just before popping in. :S
    5) I come from a part of India where its all coconut all the time, resistance is futile! The recent beauty ‘trend’ of coconut oiling your head is kinda hilarious to me because we’ve been doing it for 1000’s of years! πŸ™‚
    6) Hate the scent of jasmine, because scent is so memory oriented, I have this distinct memory of being tired, footsore and cranky at the end of the day on a bus surrounded by the smell of rotting jasmine blooms and to this day it makes me want to gag!
    7) Love doughnuts, fattening and sinful as they may be!
    8) Macarons are overrated, I’ve tried it in places where its supposedly the best macaroons evaaaa….and I don’t get it!
    10) Dripping taps is my pet hate!
    11) WORD!
    12) I don’t drink except when the moon is blue. Just note a fan of the taste of alcohol and for a control freak the sensation of losing control ain’t exactly fun!
    13) Not a fan of black tea either, try lipton’s mint intense tea, its green mint tea and that is my JAM!

    1. Tine

OMG dripping taps, I forgot to add dripping taps. DRIVES ME INSANE.
Coconut oil does wonders to hair, I don’t know how but I don’t question it because it bloody works. Just can’t stand the smell. πŸ˜›

      Green mint tea. DELISH!

  8. Robert C

It took me a while to think of anything since I’m quite a open-about-random-stuff kind-of-person but here goes,

    1. I have OCD. But not OCD per se. Only on certain areas/stuff. I have an OCD for bathrooms/washrooms. Cannot stand a dirty one. And now that I’m living in uni Accomodations, laundry machines. Things that I have found in there will make you puke. Uh, I literally take a sanitizer bottle and spray to the launderette every time.

    2. I don’t like imperfect makeup application. If I see that unblinded contour, overused blush, freaking eyeliner that goes to directions unheard of, from people standing face to face with me, I will say it to them.

    3. Love fashion, too lazy to bother catching up on the “new trends”. Also, I have to say here that I am such an indecisive person, especially on clothes, that I could spend an hour in a dressing room deciding between 2-3 t-shirts (happened. Don’t judge me D:). Not a fan of the recent “fashions”. With it being all weird with different shapes, etc. (I am referring to those on runway).

    4. I do not understand English Tea or whatever they call it. I like Green tea, and it’s healthy for you!

    5. I also do not understand why anyone would add milk to their drinks. Like what. Milk to be is tasteless and adding it to your drinks to me serves no purpose except to dilute it. I add condensed milk to my drinks, thanks.

    6. Do not understand the beauty in modern art. Big dot on a piece of paper? Get it away from me. Shapes that make something? No.

    1. Tine

HAAHAHAHHAA love your comment, Robert! Not TMI at all and I’m definitely not judging you because hello, I have my crazies.
I can’t stand dirty bathrooms. That’s why I stayed in a student accommodation in uni that has my own ensuite bathroom. Communal bathrooms will drive me nuts. That was pre-hand sanitiser and rubbing alcohol days. If I’m back in uni now, I’ll be spraying the shit out of the whole communal bathroom before even using it! πŸ˜›

#6 – don’t get it either. Once I saw a large perforated cardboard box with a big black circle drawn on it with a Sharpie. And that’s supposed to be art. Hello, my niece could draw the same.

  9. Jessica

I like this kind of post. Who doesnt?

My list is probably longer than this but here are a few things that came straight to mind.

    1. Yes to Beyone being overated. Some catchy tune but nothing sticks just as other popular pop stars.

    2. Can’t stand TGIF. Simply sounds off to me. Dont get me wrong, I love Fridays!!

    3. Long finger nails..groomed or not.

    From a fellow Aussie resident.

    1. Tine

      Hehe glad you enjoyed it!
Hahahahah TGIF! Very apt for today, no? πŸ˜›

  10. Cecilia

I don’t understand the BeyoncΓ© fever, specially the fashion aspect of it. I just don’t get it.
I don’t like The Beatles either.
    I hate beets.
And I don’t find Brad (THE Brad) handsome.

I guess we can say that I have strong issues with the letter B.

    PS: I love bacon, though.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! THE BRAD! I hear ya, sister. I hear ya! I don’t think he’s all that too. Erm, I may be stepping on toes here, but I don’t get the craze over Ryan Gosling either. Sorry if you’re a fan. πŸ˜›

PS: Bacon rocks. Best B ever.

  11. Poohkie

I feel the exact same way about Beyonce! I thought I was the only one! I’m so glad I can voice this here πŸ™‚

PS I hate jasmine too; gives me a killer headache. Sucks that it’s really common here in South India, most women wear it in their hair.

    1. Tine

Hahaha voice away! So glad I’m not the only one who’s not a big fan of Beyonce. πŸ˜›

Oh dear, jasmine is very popular where you are! How do you cope??
