Cellnique Pro Sebum Gel Rebranded to B-Liv by Cellniq

When I went to Sasa to stock up on my usual daily dose of Cellnique’s Pro Sebum Gel, I was surprised to find that it was no longer available. There I was, looking all over for the bright pink box (that was how it was packaged), but to no avail. When I asked the sales assistant if they’ve stopped stocking the product, that was when I found out that Cellnique had actually renamed and repackaged the Pro Sebum Gel under the brand B-Liv by Cellniq.

B-Liv Skincare

Just to be sure, I contacted Cellnique regarding this rebranding. A few weeks later, I received a reply from Ms Joey Chin, a Cellnique representative. She has kindly allowed me to quote her reply here.

Our Pro Sebum Gel has been re-packaged under b.liv by cellniq. It was an exercise which we had planned since Jan 08. The reason behind the re-branding is because we have done some researches & found out that the youngsters nowadays, like something fun, even for their skin care products. Hence, we have re-vamped the whole brand to suit to their requirements.

We have also found out that they (what we called the Gen-Yers) like something easy to use, do not require much hassle & saves time. Hence, we have developed a range of products that only have 2 steps: cleanse & treat. If you notice, all of our products only have 2 steps. Currently, we have 4 range of products:

1. Hydration range (Blue)
a) Drench Me – cleanser
b) Quench Me – moisturizer for hydration

2. Comedone Reducing (Orange)
a) Squeaky Clean – cleanser
b) Off With Those Heads – treatment for black/white heads
c) Got Me Covered – a complementary product. It is our sun-block + natural foundation that acts like a make-up base

3. Pore Reducing (Purple)
a) Glow & Shine – weekly masque that has triple function: deep cleanse + brightening + cell renewal
b) Shrink & Tighten – a complementary product for open pores

4. Blemish Control (Pink)
a) No Spots Bye Dots – cleanser
b) Spots Got Shot – treatment gel for spots

So there you go. The Pro Sebum Gel was simply repackaged and renamed to B-Liv Off With Those Heads Pro Sebum Gel.

B-Liv Off With Those Heads Front

Although I have to say, I wasn’t at all keen on the rebranding though. Even though the objective of the rebranding was aimed at appealing to the younger generation, I couldn’t help but wonder if they’ve taken a step too far into somehow downgrading the outlook of the product.

Cellnique Pro Sebum Gel
The original Pro Sebum Gel came in a pink plastic box. This was another version in packaging.

Comparison between Cellnique and B-Liv

Methinks the original packaging looked a whole lot better, and classier too. Cellnique is not a very popular skincare brand, and the products aren’t cheap. The Pro Sebum Gel costs RM139 per bottle in the original packaging. The rebranded B-Liv Off With Those Heads costs the same. If I’ve never heard of Cellnique’s Pro Series range before, and see it on the shelves of Sasa, I might be swayed to give it a go despite the hefty price tag on an unknown product.

However, when I saw B-Liv, the range looked as though it was targeted more towards teenagers. And teenagers would hardly pay RM139 for a single piece of skincare product. The bottles looked plasticky, resembled sunscreen bottles and looked as though they belonged in a drugstore. It’s definitely not something I’d pay that much for at first glance.

I’m disappointed at the change. Even though I will continue to buy B-Liv’s Pro Sebum Gel as it works very well for me in controlling pimple outbreaks, somehow I feel shortchanged 🙁

Bring back the long cylindrical bottle and pink box!

MAC Lipglass in Strawberry Blonde And The Massive Lipgloss Collection

Syen and I were at David Jones a couple of days ago, when we dropped by MAC. Now I don’t usually go to MAC counters (not after my bad experience with them), but Syen was ogling at the latest MAC collection, Brunette Blonde Redhead, so I thought I’d check it out too. I ended up getting the Tinted Lipglass in Strawberry Blonde. This is my first lipgloss from MAC.

It’s a very pretty deep pink-red, with a hint of shimmer.

Without flash (excuse the dry patches around the mouth; have been having skin problems lately. Sigh)

It’s sticky, but not too sticky, which is what I like in lipgloss. Staying power is pretty good too. I’m thinking of getting the one in Quick Tease in the same collection, which is a gorgeous red-purple. Ooooh *rubbing hands together*

And now, for something a little off-the-topic from the Lipglass. I was looking at Ollie’s lipstick/lipgloss/lipbalm collection, and since she had fun shopping in her stash, I thought I’d do the same with mine too, just for fun.

And when I really put them all together, oh my … I really, really have to stop buying lipgloss from now on. The numbers are pretty shocking, even for me.

Lipgloss Collection in Drawer

Lipgloss Collection

I have 33 tubes of lipgloss, and 21 tubes of lipbalm. And that’s only in the drawers. I haven’t even counted the lipgloss and lipbalm in my purse. The same goes for lipsticks!

Lipbalm Collection

That’s it. I’m on a lipgloss/lipbalm ban … for now. At least until I finish, er, one tube of lipgloss, before I buy another one.

Hang on, didn’t I say I wanted to get another MAC Lipglass a moment ago?

Damnit.

Paula’s Choice Barely There Sheer Matte Tint SPF 20

After reading Paula Begoun’s Don’t Go To The Cosmetics Counter Without Me, I couldn’t help but wonder if her own products, Paula’s Choice, are really that good. She highlights most, if not all, of them as Paula’s Picks. Maybe it’s just me, but I find that a little unethical, to be promoting her own stuff in the book that reviews beauty products. I have to wonder if the reviews she gave the other brands of beauty products were subjective.

Anyway, just to test it out, I purchased a couple of items from the Paula’s Choice website. An item that caught my eye was the Barely There Sheer Matte Tint. I originally purchased a sample sachet of it to try out. In the end, I was so impressed by it that I ended up buying a full-sized tube a month later.

Paula's Choice Barely There Sheer Matte Tint Front

Paula's Choice Barely There Sheer Matte Tint Back

What I noticed about Paula’s Choice products, is that they come in no-nonsense, no-frills packaging. Looking at the tube of the Sheer Matte Tint, all you’ll see are the drug facts, uses, warnings, directions of use, ingredients, and other relevant information. There’s no mention of what fantastic technology and gizmo were used to create this product. What you see is what you get.

The Barely There Sheer Matte Tint is essentially a tinted moisturiser. As the weather is dry here in Melbourne, I do not skip the moisturiser prior to this. The one which suited my skin tone was Sheer Ivory.

Paula's Choice Barely There Sheer Matte Tint Spout

As I have a very oily T-zone, I find that this tinted moisturiser suited my skin very well. It did not leave an oily residue, even after hours of application.

Paula's Choice Barely There Sheer Matte Tint Swatch

Paula's Choice Barely There Sheer Matte Tint Spreaded

Paula's Choice Barely There Sheer Matte Tint Blended

The texture is lighter and less oily than Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser, although the coverage is the same. It evens out the skin tone well, but does not give full coverage.

This is suitable for all skin types, but I’d recommend this to those with oily skin, as it isn’t heavy at all. With its added SPF 20, it also gives sufficient protection from harmful sun rays. I used a lot of it during the days with scorching heat, and I had to be out of doors. The tinted moisturiser on my skin surprisingly didn’t melt then.

So yeah, I think Paula was right about this one. I’ve been using this for months, and I’m very satisfied.

Paula's Choice Barely There Sheer Matte Tint Shades

Paula’s Choice Barely There Sheer Matte Tint SPF 20 comes in four shades. Its RRP is AU$43.25, but member’s price is AU$30.25. I joined the Member’s Program for AU$10, because even after adding that into the member’s price, it’s still cheaper than the RRP.

I’m not sure if Paula’s Choice products are available at stores, but I got mine on the website. This is also available on the Paula’s Choice Malaysia website, at the discounted price (at the time of writing) of RM57.

Would I repurchase this? Definitely, once my current tube runs out.

What I like about it: Light texture for oily skin, contains SPF 20, gives medium coverage

What I did not like about it: Nothing

My Personal Blog

I was having a good chat with Syen last week, when we met up for shopping and dinner on her trip to Melbourne. Amidst all the shopping and makeup talk, she had no idea that I have a personal blog. In fact, after checking the blog, I realised that I didn’t even put in a link to my personal blog!

So for you guys who had no idea I’ve been blogging for the past 3 years before I started this beauty blog, here it is – Oh for the love of me.

Just some random rants and going-ons which I write about. Not exactly thrilling stuff, mind you. If you’re interested, that is. You know, no pressure 😉
