Helena Rubinstein Prodigy Powercell Foundation: A Luxury Foundation For An Unforgettable Name

Helena Rubinstein Prodigy Powercell Foundation

It’s strange how well-known female cosmetics powerhouses like Estée Lauder, Elizabeth Arden and so on are but Helena Rubinstein is not, especially when she practically is the “inventor” of beauty. You know that saying “there’s no ugly women, only lazy ones“? That was quoted by Helena Rubinstein. She revolutionised the way women looked after their skin with her famous jars of beauty cream.

Madame Rubinstein left Poland for Melbourne in 1902 and began selling her famous Crème Valaze (no longer in production) in Melbourne. Her very first shop was at the fashionable Collins Street. She grew her name and brand in Melbourne so greatly that she decided to also open a store in London. Yet the funny thing is, even though Madame Rubinstein started her empire in Melbourne, it’s not sold in Australia now. I have absolutely no idea why.

Helena Rubinstein is widely available in Japan though and I thought it’s high time I try out some of her products. I wasn’t sure which skincare product to try out and as they were expensive, I didn’t want to simply buy something that may not work for me. So, in the end, I decided on makeup instead and I picked up what the sales assistant considered to be their fanciest foundation, and that’s the Prodigy Powercell Foundation.

Bloggie Wednesday: How Much Do You Spend On Your Blog?

Bloggie Wednesday: How Much Do You Spend On Your Blog?

© sepy

Now that we’re in a new financial year (at least, it is for Australians), it’s time to go through our blogging bills and see how much we spend on our blogs. Now I don’t make a lot of money on the blog but what I do make, most of it goes back into the blog. It’s just like any business isn’t it?

If you’re running your blog full-time and are blogging professionally, you have to take stock of all that you’ve spent on the blog for your annual tax returns, not just how much you’ve made. This doesn’t just include things like domain and webhost fees. It also includes part of your Internet bills, electricity bills, rent (e.g. you blog in your home office. That area can be tax-deductible), etc. I’m not a tax accountant so it’s best to have a chat with yours about it.

I went over my own bills (overhead fees aside) and found out that I do spend quite a lot on the blog on a yearly basis. Today I thought I’d share with you some of the fees I have to pay to keep Beautyholics Anonymous running.

Beauty Experience: bhave Smooth Treatment

Note: This is quite a text-heavy post but if you’re based in Australia and have very frizzy, unmanageable hair like I do, you need to read this because the treatment is phenomenal.

Frizzy hair

Apologies for the grainy phone photo and 100 extra bonus points to you if you know the reference of the comic bubble.

The Lowdown

Here’s the lowdown of my hair: it’s very thick, each hair coarse and uneven, and it’s very frizzy when it’s dried after washing. It’s very “poofy” the next day after washing my hair, which is why I absolutely have to use a flat iron on it. As I wash my hair every other day, this means that I also run a flat iron on it from root to tip every other day. Imagine the damage.

I’ve been doing Asian-style permanent straightening for many years. While the treatments do manage the frizz and volume, it also makes my hair flat, dead straight and lifeless. As the treatment goes from root to tip, for the first couple of months, it would look as though I have very flat and lifeless hair with it plastered to my head. On the other hand, it lasts at least a year or until hair starts to grow. As it grows, you’ll also notice a kink at the roots where the treatment began and ended.

A few months ago, I was contacted by the people at bhave and was kindly offered to try their new Smooth treatment to smoothen my hair and more importantly, to get rid of the awful frizz. After a lot of questions on my part to get more information about the treatment, I said yes.

I’ve noticed a number of bloggers review the bhave Smooth Treatment a week or two after the treatment. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but personally, I find it a more accurate representation of the results to wait and see how long the treatment can last. And so I did.

The Worst Advice I’ve Heard About Blush

The Worst Advice I've Heard About Blush

© Rynio Productions

Long time readers will know that of all the makeup that I have and wear, my absolute favourite is blush. I can skip lippie but blush is a must in my makeup routine.

Funny thing is, when it comes to my mum, it’s the one item of makeup she wouldn’t wear. In fact, she has nagged me from time to time to stop wearing blush, or she would call it, rouge. I didn’t question her reasons before because I simply assumed she thought I’d look like a tart with blush on.

However, when I asked her finally why, she said it was something her dermatologist told her. Mum’s dermatologist advised her not to wear blush because apparently, “blush causes freckles and exacerbates them“. No wonder Mum has been reluctant to wear blush for so many years!

No disrespect to that dermatologist but that’s one of the biggest loads of rubbish I’ve heard in a while.
