Taking A Wee Break

Taking a wee break

Happy hump day, folks!

If you’ve been following me on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, you’ll know that I’m currently not at my desk but at the Land of the Rising Sun!

I didn’t think we’d be travelling at all this year since we have Janey but Tim stumbled upon some cheap flights just a few months ago and thought, oh why not? On the other hand, boarding alone for Janey has cost us just about the price of one flight ticket so, erm, it’s not that cheap after all. Tim said “Gah, we should have just brought Janey along with us!”. Sigh, if only we could, mate. If only we could.

Talking Scents: Chloé Eau de Parfum

Chloé Eau de Parfum

Top notes: Pink peony, Freesia and Lychee
Middle notes: Rose, Lily-of-the-valley, Magnolia
Base notes: Cedar wood, Amber and Honey

You know I very seldom write about perfumes but you know what, I want to try. I’m quite dull in my choices of perfume but when I do fall in love with one, boy do I fall head over heels.

The Chloé EDP is my latest acquisition. It’s not a new perfume by any means but the size of it is. It’s a limited edition 20ml and while it is definitely a lot more expensive in terms of price per ml compared to, say, a 100ml one, it’s an absolutely perfect size for me. If only all perfumes come in this small size too; I’ll be able to try a lot more fragrances without needing to splash out on a minimum of 30ml that I’ll most likely never finish.

Do You Prefer Dupes Or The Real Thing?

Do You Prefer Dupes Or The Real Thing?

If you Google “dupe for MAC“, you’ll get approximately 3,610,000 results. In fact, if you Google “dupe for [insert random makeup]”, chances are there will be a dupe for it.

I don’t know who it was who first coined the term “dupe” for makeup very similar to another (ideas, anyone?) but brands have been creating cheaper alternatives to cult makeup for years and it helps those who would rather not splurge a lot of money on just one item of makeup and yet still be able to try something similar.

When I first got interested in makeup, I didn’t have the means to purchase from high-end brands. I relied on a lot of dupes, a lot I could get very cheaply from indie mineral makeup brands. I had at least 5 blushes that were dupes of the famous NARS Orgasm. Funny thing was, I’ve never tried the actual thing and the total amount I spent on those 5 blushes would have gotten me 1.5 NARs blushes. Heck, 2 NARS blushes even!

Read My Lips: AVON Ultra Color Rich Over Nature Lipstick in Bright Bellis

AVON Ultra Color Rich Over Nature Lipstick in Bright Bellis

I must admit, I haven’t been giving AVON lippies much thought until quite recently. I’ve tried a number of AVON lipsticks before but none of them have impressed me. Most if not all of them were drying, waxy and did not feel good on the lips. That is, until this little number came along.

The cardboard packaging reminds me very much of Paul and Joe’s lipsticks. They may not look classy and sophisticated but to me, they’re fun, pretty and stand out from the conventional black glossy packaging. The shade that really made me go wow was the Bright Bellis.
