Celebrating the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival!

VAMFF 2014

Last year’s Melbourne Fashion Festival was so much fun that I thought I’d bring you a bit of fashion week action again this year. The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (formerly known as the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival) will kick off on Monday and it’s going to be an exciting week!

My coverage of the event will be different from last year. I’m not involved with L’Oreal Paris this year so I won’t be able to cover the fashion shows this year (no more front row action for me. Drats 😛 ) and it wouldn’t be as intense. But no biggie, between you and me, I’m far more interested in going backstage anyway. That’s where the show really begins!

I’m fortunate to be able to go backstage to see all the hair action with L’Oreal Professional this year so I’ll be able to show you what goes on in there. I covered a lot of makeup looks for last year’s fashion festival but nothing about hair, so this time, it’s going to be about hair. And if I get to sneak in some makeup action, oh you know this girl is going to try by hook or by crook.

Popbasic: The Microcollection Concept That Rocks

Popbasic Packaging

I first heard of Popbasic from Norlin last year. At that time, it was the height of beauty box subscriptions. So many of them were popping out left, right and centre. I thought it sounded interesting but I quickly dismissed it because really, do I need another subscription service? Don’t I have enough shit things already?

Wait, don’t answer that.

A few weeks after reading Norlin’s post, we caught up during a media event and my jaw dropped when I laid eyes on this utterly stunning emerald green pleated maxi skirt she wore. Whaddyaknow, it was from Popbasic. After mulling it over it for days, I decided to try it out. I reread that post of hers and this time, I realised that Popbasic isn’t actually a subscription service.

BB Creamology: Dr Jart, Napoleon Perdis and Dior

Hello hello and welcome to the 11th episode of BB Creamology! If you’re new to the blog, BB Creamology is a series of reviews on BB creams and BB creams alone. I know that many of you are probably pretty sick and tired of hearing about BB creams already and I can understand why. Beauty brands are coming up with so many different types of BB, CC, DD and whatever else creams claiming to do so many things to your skin when a lot of them are just foundations. That’s exactly how I see them: they’re makeup, they’re foundations or just tinted moisturisers. They’re not skincare. They don’t replace moisturisers or sunscreens.

That’s how I see and review BB creams. I hope you still enjoy the series. I’ll stop when they stop coming up with BB creams, how about that? 🙂

BB Creamology: Dr Jart, Napoleon Perdis and Dior

Today, I’m going to be reviewing an Asian and 2 Western BB creams. What’s interesting about today’s episode of BB Creamology is that all these BB creams have high SPF (with a minimum of SPF 30). I was originally going to review the Olay Fresh BB cream before the one by Dr Jart but given the price range of these BB creams, I’ll leave the Olay one for another episode of drugstore BB creams.

Bloggie Wednesday: Blogging Frustrations and Insecurities

Last week, I tweeted this:

I drafted this post soon after I tweeted that but I debated on whether to actually publish it or not. I don’t want the post to come across as feeling absolutely sorry for myself, oh poor me, I’m an ungrateful blogger, boo bloody hoo. After sleeping on it for days, I’ve decided to publish it because even though it does sound very boo bloody hoo, I have a niggling feeling that I’m not the only blogger who feels this way from time to time.

So here goes nothing. You can probably feel my nerves here from miles away.

I wasn’t having the best of the days that day. Everything irked me. It wasn’t PMS, mind you, although I can understand why that can be a potential reason since I can be a cranky cow during that time of the month. No, it sure wasn’t PMS. I was reading tweets and Facebook status updates from bloggers on how well they’re doing, how much traffic they’ve achieved (and we’re talking about tens of millions here) … and that pretty much sent me over the edge.

Truth be told, I was insecure and frustrated about my blog.
