Finally, A Purple Eyeshadow I Can Wear!

KIKO Cosmetics

Oooh the dreaded purple eyeshadow. Purple eyeshadows may be very pretty but if you’re not careful, you can end up looking like you’ve been punched in the eye. I’m always very wary of purple eye makeup because if the eyeshadows are not properly blended (or even over-blended. Oh yeah, it can happen), the chances of looking like you’ve got a black eye (or two) is high.

Me, I usually stay away from purple eyeshadows. I’ve seen a lot of very beautiful ones. Heck, I even have a lot of beautiful ones. But it was always the case of swatch, “omgsoprettymustbuy!”, bring it home and when it’s time to take it out to try ….

*sound of crickets*.

KIKO Long Lasting Wet and Dry Use Eyeshadow in 204

When I was in Rome last year, I popped into the KIKO Cosmetics store. This is a very popular European brand and it’s a pity they aren’t available in Australia because believe you me, you will love it. It was very difficult deciding what to buy at KIKO that day because 1) I truly was spoilt for choice 2) there was a sale going on and a lot of eyeshadows were selling at 2 Euros each. TWO FREAKING EUROS and 3) there were far too many people in store because of the sale. In the end, I just picked up a few eyeshadows and I was out of there.

Bloggie Wednesday: Ask Me Anything!

Bloggie Wednesday: Ask Me Anything!

Happy hump day, folks and welcome to the first Ask Me Anything of 2014!

I’ve been getting a lot of questions from readers on blogging and skincare lately so I thought it’s time to open the floor to you for even more questions. Go on, come at me with your questions. Answer them, Tine will*.

If you’re new to Beautyholics Anonymous and to Ask Me Anything, this is where you can ask me anything. It can be beauty-related (have a question about serums? Cleansers? Eye creams? Foot creams? Feminine hygiene products?), shoot ’em right over. If you have any questions about blogging, ask away. Or you can ask me about food. I can tell you where to get good Hainanese chicken rice in Melbourne for less than $10**. 😉

If there’s anything I’m able to help you out with, I’ll give it a try. If not, perhaps the other readers may be able to help. Seriously, some of the ideas you guys come up with … GENIUS.

For The Love of Candles

Mrs Meyer's Clean Day Candle

So … candles. I think there’s a bit of a love-hate relationship with them. Oh, not me, I absolutely love them as you can tell. Some people love them, some people hate them. Some people love burning them, some people think it’s a waste of money. I guess it’s how you look at it and how it works for you really.

I didn’t actually start out loving candles. To me, candles were what my parents took out whenever there was a blackout at home. My brother and I weren’t allowed to go near them because according to Mum, “they’ll burn your fingers off and you’ll have no more fingers left!“. Yes, Mum can be bit dramatic (like mother, like daughter) but believe you me, it scared the crap out of my brother and I and we don’t touch them unless absolutely necessary. Plus you couldn’t get fancypants candles back then. The only coloured candles were the long slim ones that go on candelabras for romantic meals like what you see on TV.

How Coconut Oil Saved My Hair

Niulife Coconut Oil

I have a confession to make. I hate coconut-scented … anything. I can’t stand the smell of it. It’s a peeve I’ve always had since I was young. The only thing that’s coconut-scented that I don’t hate but actually like very much is kaya (coconut jam), and that’s only if it has a lot of pandan in it.

For years, I’ve heard and read that coconut oil does wonders to the skin and hair. It’s like a miracle elixir especially for hair. I’ve always knocked the idea off because the thought of applying anything that smells that strong makes me want to throw up. Yeah, it’s that bad. I decline requests from brands that offer to send me coconut-scented products for review. Nope, sorry, I can’t do it.

So why did I even contemplate it this time?
