Cult Beauty Products That Did Not Hit The Mark For Me

Cult Beauty Products That Did Not Hit The Mark For Me

Ahh cult beauty products. Hailed as the Holy Grails of the beauty world.

These are some of the beauty products that are highly raved by the beauty blogging community, YouTube-land and magazine editors and are deemed desert island products that one cannot live without. You’ll most likely have seen very positive reviews on them because to many, they work really well. But to some, they’re just not as good as they’re hyped to be.

Taking a page out of Val‘s blog series on cult products that didn’t work for her, I thought I’d share with you my take on certain cult beauty products that didn’t cut the mustard for me. These are the products that I’m supposed to fall head over heels in love with but have been sorely disappointed by.

Now these beauty items may or may not work wonders for you. If it’s the latter, I’m glad they worked well for you because I sure wish they did for me and not turn out to be a waste of my money.

In no particular order, here we go!

Immerse Yourself In Jewel Tones with CHI CHI’s Glamorous Eyes Rich Gems Eyeshadow Palette

CHI CHI Glamorous Eyes Rich Gems Eyeshadow Palette

When I first moved to Australia and checked out the myriad of Aussie and international beauty brands in shops, I gave CHI CHI one look and decided it was definitely not for me. The amount of bright colours in eyeshadows, nail polishes, lipsticks, etc were overwhelming and thought they were just too young for me. I was only 28 then but already thinking like an auntie.

Hello. Welcome to my auntie world. 😛

Anyway, some time in 2013, I decided to properly browse CHI CHI again and I was quite surprised to see the range of eyeshadow palettes that they have, specifically the Glamorous Eyes line with 12 mini eyeshadows in each palette. I thought they looked awfully similar to the Urban Decay NAKED palettes, especially the one in Nudes. I wasn’t interested in the Nudes palette as I already have the Urban Decay one so I swatched some eyeshadows from a few of the other palettes instead. To my surprised, they’re actually not gritty, buttery smooth and highly pigmented!

As pretty as they were in store, I ended up not getting any of the palettes at that time because really, don’t I have enough? Well, it turns out that a few days before Christmas, I decided I don’t have enough eyeshadows (*raise an eyebrow*) and decided to pick one out at Target. It just so happens that there was a particular gift set that was exclusive to Target that contained one of the Glamorous Eyes eyeshadow palettes, 4 lip glosses and a blush/bronzer for only AU$24.95. As each palette retails at AU$22.95 already, I decided to pick up the gift set instead. There was an extra 25% off that day and I bought the entire set for only AU$18.70. After the Boxing Day sales, it was slashed further to about $12 or $14! If you’re lucky, you may still find this at your local Target store. 😉

Bloggie Wednesday: Planning Your Editorial Content for 2014

Bloggie Wednesday: Planning Your Editorial Content for 2014

Don’t you just love January? I do. It’s the month where people spend the least post-Christmas and it’s the month where shops are slashing prices even further to entice people to shop more even though we’re broke from spending too much during the holiday season. It’s also the month where web traffic is lowest as people are still on holiday and are slowly returning to the grindstone.

January is the month where made resolutions are the strongest (of course, it tapers in February then March and come June, it’s like resolutions? What resolutions?), which is why I think it’s the best month to come up with some organisation plans for our blogs. Low traffic in January doesn’t really bother me because 1) it’s a good thing that people are away from the computers and spending some quality time with their loved ones and 2) it gives me a bit of a breather to be able to plan content for the coming months and year.

Face of Australia Glossy Lip Crayons: Better Than That Other One!

Face of Australia Glossy Lip Crayons

If you live in Australia, you’re in for a treat because Face of Australia recently launched an entire line of lip crayons. And they are good!

When they first launched a trio of sheer lip crayons a while back, I wasn’t that big of a fan. I liked it at first but in the end got tired of how much lip product I had to use because as the name would have it, it goes on sheer. When the Glossy Lip Crayons were launched, I picked up the Raspberry Coulis from Priceline and I was hooked.

Whaddyaknow, a week later, a parcel was delivered by Face of Australia and in there were all of the colours of the lip crayons. I won’t deny that I did a little victory dance right there and then. 😛
