Beauty Tip: Remove that Gnarly Bit of Skin with a Nail File

Are you thinking, gee I wonder what sort of “gnarly bit of skin” she’s talking about? First of all, if you’ve stumbled upon this blog post in hopes that I’ll be able to tell you how to remove whatever gnarly bits of skin you have, I hope you’re thinking about your hands because I don’t have anything for you if that bit of skin is … somewhere else. 😛

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s get to the beauty tip, shall we?

Before we get started, I’m going to be showing you an embarrassing part of my body that, for a beauty blogger, is bloody embarrassing to have. It’s not particularly gross; it’s just dry skin but it can look rather disgusting especially if you have buttery smooth skin (I hate you already if you do).

Nail file and Maine Beach Organic Lingurian Honey Hand and Nail Creme

Okay, this is not an uncommon problem but it can be an embarrassing one especially if you have dry skin on your hands. I’m not talking about an overall dryness to the hands that can be temporarily fixed with hand cream. This is a problem I’ve been tackling for years and it’s the bits of dry skin that sticks peels and sticks out. Whenever I’m anxious or nervous about something, I subsconsciously pick at the skin on my hands. Many a time, I don’t even realise that I’ve done it until the ordeal is over, I look at my hands and woah! I’ve peeled quite a chunk off! Sometimes, it even bleeds. 🙁

Falling in Love with Cleansing Balms: Eve Lom and Antipodes

I’m a religious double cleanser. If I have makeup or even just sunscreen on during the day, then double-cleansing with an oil cleanser is a must for me. It’s not that I don’t trust my cleanser (okay, I don’t trust my cleanser), but I find the act of removing foundation with an oil cleanser, especially when seeing the ick come off my face, particularly cathartic. I even decant cleansing oils into small bottles for travelling (always have to double bag it as my Shu Uemura one leaked a couple of times. Oil in bag, EEEYYUUCCK!).

Eve Lom Cleanser and Antipodes Grapeseed Butter Cleanser

As I’ve been using liquid oil cleansers for so long, it didn’t come across my mind to try something new. I’ve seen cleansing balms around but never took to them because when I tested one out at the beauty counters (I think the one I tested was Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm), it was thick and heavy. I didn’t like the texture at all. I tested the popular Eve Lom cleansing balm at Mecca Cosmetica. Ugh, so thick and oily! Nope, not trying it at all.

Well, that was until Paris B came to Melbourne and stayed a few nights at my place. I saw her small jar of Eve Lom cleanser on the sink and had to ask her just how the heck she used it because I found it so thick and oily. She taught me the way she used the cleansing balm and it was the best method she found that worked very well for her. I don’t have a muslin cloth but it was okay because she found that a face washer towel worked better than a muslin cloth. Bless her, she left that Eve Lom jar for me to try out when she left Melbourne.

I tried it out and oh my, I’m a convert. I really am.

See, it goes to show that just checking it out and drawing conclusions based on that alone don’t always work. You have to learn how to bloody use it! 😛

Bloggie Wednesdays: Give Back To The Blogging and Non-Blogging Community This Holiday Season

Bloggie Wednesdays: Give Back To The Blogging and Non-Blogging Community This Holiday Season

© Sergeeva

Happy hump day, folks!

Today’s Bloggie Wednesday is going to be a quick one as we prepare for the holiday season. Show of hands, how many of you still needs to do Christmas shopping but are dreading the massive crowds at shopping centres?

*hand shoots right up*

As bloggers, being a part of the blogging community is very important. It can often be a lonely role, being a blogger because you’re always behind a screen, whether it’s a computer, tablet or phone, especially if you’re a new blogger. We rely on the blogging community and fellow bloggers for support so why not show your appreciation by letting them know how much they mean to you and how helpful they’ve been in your blogging journey. I’m talking about the ones who has given you helpful advice when something went wrong, the ones who comment on your blog consistently, the ones who helped share your content with their readers and so on.

Savvy by DB Lip Stain: A “Watermelon” You’ll Find Hard to Get Rid Off

Okay, I don’t think I’ve come up with a lamer title than that. You’re losing it, Tine! 😛

Anyway.

I was doing a spot of shopping with Paris B and Norlin at Priceline few weeks ago and when Norlin and I stumbled upon Savvy by DB Lip Stains. Well, actually she did, I just came along, ooh-ed and ahh-ed at her swatch, watched her go “no, I have way too many lippies, cannot buy” and put them back. They actually looked quite good swatched on the back of her hand then but I decided to be good and only picked up one skincare item that day.

Savvy by DB Lip Stain in Watermelon

Lo and behold, a few weeks later, I found myself at Priceline again (it’s like I live there!) and decided that while I do have that many lipsticks to open a shop, one more couldn’t hurt. I swatched the Watermelon on the back of my hand and oh my, it sure was pretty. I picked it up and tried it on my lips at home.

WOWSER.
