Not So Happy with Bourjois’ Happy Light Foundation and Matte Serum Primer

Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation has been a favourite of mine ever since it was launched a couple of years ago. In fact, it became my Holy Grail of foundations at some point, snatching to stay on the spot with Rimmel’s Match Perfection. When I heard on the blogging grapevine that Bourjois has come up with a new foundation called the Happy Light, I was excited to check it out at my local Priceline. And then I forgot that that part of the grapevine was from the UK and they get the good stuff first!

Bourjois Happy Light Foundation and Happy Light Matte Serum Primer

So I waited and waited. When Priceline finally stocked the Happy Light foundation, I pounced like a ninja and picked up a bottle. Since I was already there, I also picked up a bottle of the Happy Light Matte Serum Primer to try out. It’s been a few weeks and I thought it’s a good time for me to share with you what I think of the foundation and the primer.

By the way, I’m making some slight changes to the way I review base makeup like foundation and BB-goodness-knows-what-double-alphabet creams to a simple point form review in terms of shade, texture, fragrance, finish on skin, coverage and longevity. I find that it makes it easier for people to read and understand than having to go through paragraphs of descriptions. What do you think? Would you prefer it too?

Skin Physics Dragon’s Blood Sculpting Gel: Slay ‘Em Skin Dragons!

Game of Thrones

The first time I heard of Dragon’s Blood in skincare, the TV show Game of Thrones came to mind. Now I don’t watch much of the show but I have sneaked in scenes every now and then when Tim’s watching it (I almost always only stumble upon the sex scenes. Coincidence? ;)). In a world where anything could happen, why shouldn’t I imagine the image above? 😛

Dracaena Draco Leaves

At one glance, doesn’t this look like a dragon? It’s actually Dracaena draco leaves, where Dragon’s Blood pigment is from

Of course, reality calls and when I do hear of Dragon’s Blood used in skincare again, I do a nonchalant pfft because one can’t help but go, really? Dragon’s blood? Rodial has a range of Dragon’s Blood skincare products but they’re quite pricey so I’m not too keen on trying them out just to see what this Dragon’s Blood thing is all about. That is, until a similar jar of it from Skin Physics landed on my desk for review. Ah-hah! Time to find out what it is and if it really works!

Nailing It: Essie in Maximillian Strasse-her

Okay, from now on, I’m prefixing my nail polish posts with Nailing It/Not Nailing It (depending on whether the nail polish is good or rubbish) instead of categorising them as Quickie Mentions. My nail polish posts are always short anyway so it will always be Quickie Mentions. 😛

Essie Nail Polish in Maximillian Strasse-her

Starting off with the first Nailing It post is a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL creamy grey by Essie called, wait for it, Maximillian Strasse-her. I love the word play! Maximilianstraße is one of the four royal avenues in Munich. Now I don’t know if that was what Essie intended but I’ll just assume it was. 🙂

Want To Shop For Beauty Products in Australia? Here Are My Top Picks (Part 1 – Skincare)

An email I get often from international readers goes something like this:

I’m visiting Australia for the first time and would love to check out the beauty products that you have there. It doesn’t only have to be Australian brands. What would you recommend?

To be honest, the last thing I’d recommend are non-Australian brands even if they can’t get them back home because things in Australia are generally more expensive (I’m not talking about a 10-20% markup. It can come up to a 100-300% markup). For international brands, you can get most of them cheaper online anyway.

On the other hand, I’m happy to recommend Australian (or Antipodean ones, since you’re already Down Under) beauty brands to you because hey, you’re visiting Australia! 😀

Instead of doing a whole post on skincare and makeup, I thought I’d divide the topic into 2 (or more) posts to concentrate on each topic. Today I’ll share with you my top picks for skincare and the next part will be on makeup. Please bear in mind that these skincare products suit my skin type which is combination skin. If you have dry skin, some of these may not work for you.

Here are some of the brands and products I’d recommend you check out in no particular order. Most can be found at Priceline (that’s my second home, people).
