LMFF 2013 Day 3: The Start of the L’Oreal Paris Runway Shows and Backstage Access, Baby!

LMFF 2013 Day 3: The Start of the L'Oreal Paris Runway Shows and Backstage Access, Baby!

Day 3 is when the first two L’Oreal Paris Runway shows begin and that just means one thing for me. Hello backstage!

I’m incredibly lucky to be given backstage access for every runway show. This means I get to see the very talented makeup artists, hairstylists, nail experts, admin staff and so on at work. This is where the magic begins. So much hard work goes into creating the 7 amazing looks L’Oreal makeup director, Rae Morris, came up with (by the way, the giveaways I’ve been doing based on those runway looks, these are exactly what the makeup artists are re-creating for each runway show).

The Look

This is a very interesting look because of the colour-blocked combination of shades on the eyes. Mint green and purple is such a beautiful combination and very on-trend. It goes to show that autumn/winter doesn’t just mean browns, neutrals, greys and burgundies; you can play with bright colours too. Again, the focus is on the eyes so the lips are kept a very pale, nude-coral.

Runway to “Realway” option: For the adventurous! The colours are actually not as strong in real life as it is in the face chart above, so it’s not over-the-top. If you’re worried about the mint green being a bit too much for a day look, try to keep the eyeshadow within the eye socket and don’t go over. You can increase the intensity of the green by applying it wet or tone it down by using a soft wash of mint. Line the lower lashes with purple and you’re ready to par-tay! 🙂

LMFF 2013 Day 2: A Runway Show, A Powder Room and A Really Cool Chick Called Barbara

LMFF Day 2

Day 2 began with a quick trip to the Sofitel Hotel where the gorgeous Barbara Palvin is currently staying (I was told that her fans were camping outside the hotel waiting for her to appear!). What started out as a leisurely shower and doing my makeup at the hotel turned out to be 15 minutes longer than I estimated so I had to dash out and grab a cab instead of just taking a tram. The wallet wasn’t too happy. Shut up, wallet. I’m off to meet Barbara!

Barbara’s stylist greeted us at the door and we were immediately shown to Barbara. She was such a friendly chick; shook all our hands and introduced herself to us one by one. As her schedule was very tight, we had to do a group interview instead of a one-on-one. But it was good because she just made us laugh with stories of her career, her sister, her family, her dog (who has a very, VERY long European name that I sadly cannot remember) and her hometown in Hungary.

Time flew by so quickly and soon, it was time to go because she had another interview appointment. She didn’t know us from Adam, yet she made us feel at home at her hotel room. I’ll be writing about our group interview very soon but suffice it to say, I had a good time chatting with her. Plus that girl is an absolute natural with the camera. Do you know how difficult it was for me to choose just one picture of her for this post? Kid you not, every single photo I took of her was good. It’s not my camera. It’s HER.

The Look

I was lucky enough to see this almost close up on the runway sneak peek on Monday. It’s an amazing look where you literally put in almost every colour in the rainbow on your eyes. You have the plum-y red, purple, teal, yellow and dark eyeliner all around the eyes. It’s the sort of eye makeup that screams “LOOK AT ME”.

This is my favourite look of all the 7 L’Oreal Paris runway looks, simply because the complexity of colours comes together so well. You can tell that the eyes are the sole focus here because the lips and cheeks are kept very simple. Instead of blush, bronzer is used to slightly contour the cheeks. Everything else does not deter from the eyes.

Runway to “Realway” option: This is the most complicated of all the runway looks. It is obviously not office-friendly and if you’re not careful applying the eye makeup, it can look like someone has just played with crayons on your eyes. To err on the side of caution, try skipping one of the dark colours and tone it down with a neutral shade. Nevertheless, this look is supposed to be fun, so go ahead and try all the colours out! 🙂
