What’s In My Makeup Bag? (January 2013)

Longchamp Le Pliage Cosmetic Bag

Every six months I like to do a What’s In My Makeup Bag post. Between you and me, I’m a big sucker for What’s In My Bag/Makeup Bag posts. Humans are natural voyeurs and I’m a bag one. One of my secret habits (well, not much of a secret anymore now that you also know about it) when I’m on the iPad is browse the “What’s In My Bag” gallery on Flickr. It’s highly addictive!

Right. My turn to show you what’s in mine. I’m a creature of habit; most of the items in my bag remains the same. There are very few changes to what goes into the makeup bag. But if you’re here for the first time or have only started reading Beautyholics Anonymous a couple of months ago (welcome!), it’ll be your first time peeking into my makeup bag. Drats. I wish I had something more interesting to show you 😛

It’s a bit silly to call it my makeup bag since I don’t actually have much makeup in it. The only items of makeup I carry in the bag are lippies.

Longchamp Le Pliage Cosmetic Bag

The makeup bag I’ve been carrying since August is the Longchamp Le Pliage cosmetic bag. This was a birthday gift from a dear friend. I like how roomy it is inside and that it’s water resistant from the inside.

BB Creamology: Anessa, LuView and Liole

BB Creamology

Welcome to the 3rd episode of BB Creamology!

I hope I’ve given you an insight to Western and Asian BB creams so far. Looking at my building stash of BB creams, I have at least 2 more episodes to go. This BB cream craze isn’t ending just yet. 😉

BB Creamology: Anessa, LuView and Liole

Anyway, today I’ll be reviewing three more Asian BB creams – 2 Korean and 1 Japanese BB cream. You might be able to find a couple of these in Asian beauty stores in Chinatown, although I’d recommend you to get them online instead. The prices at Asian beauty stores are highly marked up and the service is usually appalling.

Five Minutes with My Favourite Blogger: Christabel @ The Makeup Mole

Five Minutes with My Favourite Blogger is a series of posts where I’ll be showcasing some of my favourite bloggers. These are the bloggers whom I admire and inspire me.

Enjoy!

My style icon: Carine Roitfeld, the ex-editor of Paris Vogue (and now editor of her own magazine, CR Book, which is amazing). She is sexy without being trashy and mixes styles and pieces effortlessly. The heels are high but there is a masculine edge to her clothes and styling, which I have always gravitated to.

Dream holiday destination: New York as it has such a mixture of art, culture and amazing bars and restaurants. You can lose yourself in Central Park, and it’s totally different depending whether it’s summer or winter. Plus the shopping is incredible – and there is a Sephora on every corner, which I think we all know is quite exciting!

One random thing you can find in my bag: It would have to be cream blush of some description as you can use it on cheeks or lips, and without it I look like Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice (minus the dark hair and monk’s fringe). Currently I am deeply, madly in love with Stila’s Convertible Colour in Petunia.

My favourite item of makeup: Gosh you ask the hard questions! It’s almost impossible to choose – for me personally I love a great red lipstick. Current favourites for me are Illamasqua’s Box (beautiful as a lip stain as well), and NARS Jungle Red, which is just such a nice colour. I have lots though, so I do mix it up. And for work I would have to say eyeshadows as I’m just mad for them – I love the colours, the textures, the textures from all different brands. Creams and powders, I’m an equal opportunity eyeshadow lover. In fact they make my life really hard as it’s so difficult to choose which ones go in my kit as I just want to take them all!

You will never see me without: This is embarrassing, you will never see me without my brows done. I used to have the biggest brows imaginable, and plucked them so into submission that parts of them now don’t grow back.(Kids, that’s a warning – step away from the tweezers!) So every day, without fail I have to pencil them back in, as without my brows I look like a crazy person, and an unkempt one at that. I usually use pencil as I find it quick, easy and portable. Currently I’m using the Sax pencil which I love as it has a spooly brush at one end, and the colour is perfect. Or sometimes I use Shu Uemura’s classic Hard Pencil in Seal Brown, which is one of those universal colours that looks good on just about everyone.

I’m absolutely addicted to: Chocolate. I don’t know why but I’ve gone chocolate mad recently – maybe because as part of a healthier eating regime I’m off gluten, dairy, coffee and alcohol (mostly). So it’s pretty much the only vice I have left. My favourite is Green & Black’s Organic chocolate, which the makeup artist Alex Box got me addicted to when I used to assist her in London. We’d be racing around the studio, high on green tea and Green & Black’s chocolate!

One thing on my bucket list: To visit Macchu Picchu and the Incan trail in Peru. I’ve always loved history and to see the remnants of this ancient civilisation must be amazing.
