Sally Hansen Mobile Manicures Bar at Federation Square

Guess what? Sally Hansen is currently having a mobile manicures bar at Federation Square, Melbourne this Spring Racing Carnival, and you can drop by for a free deluxe manicure any time between 9.30am to 4pm till Thursday, 3 November. That’s right ladies, you heard right. FREE MANICURES. Get on it.

I had an opportunity to get my nails done yesterday morning with a few beauty bloggers invited to an intimate breakfast hosted by CotyPR, brand managers of Sally Hansen. After a short presentation on Sally Hansen (interesting fact: do you know that one Sally Hansen nail polish sells every 6 seconds in the US? Far out!), it was time for a manicure! ๐Ÿ˜€

Now the fun part is, you don’t only get to choose a regular manicure. I had the option of trying out the Salon Effects nail stickers too. The Salon Effects nail stickers are great for those who do not have the time to spare and wait for the nails to dry.

As it was Halloween yesterday, what better way to “celebrate the occasion” than to try out the Halloween range? I chose Numbskulls.

List of Lusts: Ballet Flats

I have an embarrassing case of flat feet, which makes buying shoes very difficult. Even more so when it comes to buying flats. I’ve had occasions when I purchased a $20 pair of ballet flats, and a $30 pair of shoe inserts just to make that pair of shoes more wearable. That’s why when it comes to flats, I’m incredibly picky and when I find a pair that suits me comfortably, I stick to it till it literally falls apart.

Finding a decent pair of flats that doesn’t look like something from Homyped is difficult (having said that, I do have a pair of moccasins from Homyped which is quite handsome and oh-so-comfortable). Still, a girl can dream, can’t she?

Catching Up

I’m giving myself a bit of a break from Bloggie Wednesdays for today. I’ve had quite the past few weeks when the parents were in Melbourne for a visit. Four people sharing one tiny bathroom and toilet? Not fun. But other than that, I had a great time with them, and I’m missing them heaps already (they left for Malaysia yesterday morning).

Here’s what I’ve been up to in short:

  • Went to Chadstone Shopping Centre a lot with the parents. It was too hot to bring them to the city, so we enjoyed free air-conditioning at Chaddy. Hey, I’m Chinese and I’m cheap like that ๐Ÿ˜›
  • Last weekend, we spent a couple of days at Tasmania, specifically Hobart. It was a good time to show Mum around the city, especially since my brother used to study at the University of Tasmania. I absolutely enjoyed Tassie. It’s an underrated holiday destination, and I’ll definitely be back to check out the east and west coast.
  • I finally managed to pack every item received at the ABBW away! This was a big feat, as you saw how much stuff were given to us. Just don’t open the drawers in the study, be extra careful sliding the wardrobe door open, and never ever look under the bed, okay?
  • I was up in Sydney yesterday with Val and Amy for a Proctor & Gamble event at the Barney Martin Hair Salon. Guess what? We actually had a chance to recreate the Pantene Aqua Light hair commercial you see on TV, and this time, it’s us swishing and swooshing our hair!

That me doing my thang!

It was also good taking a bit of a break from the blogging front. I felt like I needed to recharge the blogging batteries for a short while. For some reason, I don’t feel 100% charged yet, but I’m getting there ๐Ÿ™‚

Before I leave, here’s a photograph I took at Mt Wellington overlooking the city of Hobart. I snapped a few pictures, stitched them together and formed a panoramic shot. ‘Tis a pity I didn’t do this when I was there last winter. The mountain looked more beautiful with snow on it. Still, it was a lovely sight to behold.

Bloggie Wednesdays: How To Approach Negative Reviews Professionally

Bloggie Wednesdays: How To Approach Negative Reviews Professionally

In our last Bloggie Wednesday, I touched on the topic of editorial control, which is especially apparent when it comes our writing negative reviews on beauty products that did not work for us. Consider today’s topic as a prequel to last week’s, and it is how we approach negative reviews.

It’s always my belief that how we write reflects our character. I don’t mind an occasional rant, but if every negative review is a constant bashing of the product and brand, I’m inclined to question the character of the person behind the blog. Writing honestly does not mean we should allow the words run loose off our tongues (in our case, the keyboard). We can, and should, be professional in what and how we write.

In order to “research” this post, I thought I’d get some input from the horse’s mouth regarding how we should approach negative reviews without burning bridges with the brands we are passionate about, just because one product from the brand did not work for us. I had the pleasure of interviewing several PRs on what their take on approaching negative reviews was. I found their views highly interesting.
