Brands vs Brands

Brands vs Brands

Back in my uni days, I remembered walking past Superdrug (one of UK’s versions of Priceline if you will) and seeing advertisements with random products and prices. The focus of the advertisements was that the prices of those random beauty products were cheaper than Boots. They showed the prices advertised by Boots, and compared with their prices of the same products. Interestingly, Boots was just a few doors away from that store!

Now when I first saw such an advertisement, I was shocked. I never knew it was okay to openly advertise price comparisons with another well-known store. It wasn’t a practice in Malaysia, which is why such advertisements still make me do a double-look to this day.

On to another “battle” which is similar; it’s still done in the open and this time, it’s not store vs. store, but brand vs. brand.

My style icon: I really love Victoria Beckham’s elegant and understated dress sense. Her line of clothing seem well cut and flattering to the woman’s figure, which adds to Victoria’s style cred (even though I’ve not had the privilege of owning a piece yet).

I also love Jun Hasegawa’s casual, rock chick style. I too, wear a lot of black, grey and white combo, so I’d love to learn how to layer and accessorise like her to add that little touch of kawaii (cuteness) to the outfits.

Dream holiday destination: Probably not a place for a relaxing, nothing to do but drink coconuts by the beach kind of holiday, but I simply must visit Manhattan one day.

One random thing you can find in my bag: I’m interpreting “random” as in “kinda strange” here – so I’d have to say my set of stainless steel travel chopsticks 😀

As it’s quite the norm in Taiwan to eat out for every single meal, it’s also quite the norm to carry your own chopsticks. As it’s more hygienic and environmentally friendly than churning though disposable wooden ones.

My favourite item of makeup: Just one!!?? Oh this is a toughy…

I love my eye makeup so I guess it’d be eyeshadow palettes – they’re always the first things I look at when I visit makeup counters, and I can never resist when I see a colour/texture/colour combo that I don’t already have.

Out of my collection, my favourite eyeshadow palette would be my Laura Mercier Custom Compact, which I use constantly, especially now when I’m waiting for a lot of my makeup stash to arrive in Taiwan via sea freight.

You will never see me without: I’m a total dag when I’m not working or going to events, so running around without a scrap of makeup is common. But you’d never, ever catch me without my sunscreen, and now, my sun parasol.

I’m absolutely addicted to: L’Oreal Mythic Oil – it nursed my hair back to health after a disastrous perm and couple of colour jobs, and now I still use it after every shampoo for silky smooth hair.

One thing on my bucket list: To complete makeup courses. I currently live 2 minutes away from the Makeup Forever academy, and am dying to save up enough dough to start doing makeup courses there. I am hoping to complete the Intermediate, Advanced and Cinematic courses within the next few years.

An Epic Weekend that Was The Beauty Bloggers Utopia: Day 2

Read about Day 1 here.

After such an exciting night, Norlin and I woke up absolutely ravenous. Sustenance was very much needed and off we head to Maccas 😛

Day 2 of BBU12

Day 2 was quite a long day as we spent it all at the Cameron Jane Makeup Design Studio. First agenda of the day was a lesson by the principal of the makeup studio, Cameron-Jane. It was a very interesting class because it wasn’t about teaching us how to apply makeup. She taught us about facial and body balance, about facial symmetry and what we can do to balance our lack of symmetry (very few people in the world have perfect facial symmetry. Kate Moss is one of them).

Long rulers were handed around in class as we measured it each’s face, noting our strong and weak sides and so on. According to Cameron-Jane, who also measured my face, the right side of my face is angular, left side softer and that pictures taken on my right profile would look better than my left. See, I never knew that!
