My Collection of Makeup Brushes

Reading Plue‘s posts on the good and bad of her makeup brushes, I had a thought to do a post on my makeup brushes as well. Not so much as a review of each brush per se, but just to do an inventory of my babies 🙂

Now as you read on, you’ll notice that I don’t have expensive makeup brushes. In fact, mine are so cheap, you’d be surprised that they even work (well, most of them anyway). The only expensive makeup brush I have is the MAC #150 (paid a liver for that one too). Still, I’m happy with what I’ve got. I’m still on the hunt for cheap and good makeup brushes; I’ll let you know when I discover more.

Face and Cheek Brushes

Left to right:

  • Silk Naturals fiber optic blush brush – I’ve not used this one yet though. It sheds whenever I run my fingers through the bristles.
  • Everyday Minerals angled blush brush – great blush for applying blush and contouring the cheeks.
  • Everyday Minerals long-handled kabuki brush – since I no longer use mineral makeup, I use this as a blush brush at times.
  • Everyday Minerals Flat-Top Brush – ditto
  • Everyday Minerals Mini Kabuki – too small to be used as a face brush. I just find it cute :p
  • Revlon Vital Radiance Foundation Brush
  • Sephora Bronzer Brush #48
  • Elianto Face Brush – very soft synthetic bristles. Love it!
  • MAC #150
  • Lumiere Face Brush
  • Lumiere Blush Brush – I find this too small to be used as a blush brush

Left to right:

  • Coastal Scents tapered crease eye brush
  • Coastal Scents synthetic fine liner brush
  • Elianto eyeshadow brush (natural hair)
  • Elianto eyeshadow brush (synthetic hair)
  • Eco Tools eyeshadow brush – a cheap and great find
  • Everyday Minerals concealer brush – the bristles are too limp for my liking
  • Everyday Minerals eyeshadow brush (2 pieces)
  • Everyday Minerals Eye kabuki brush – I don’t know why I got this, since I don’t even have deep-set eyes to begin using this with. I guess I just wanted to complete my collection of Everyday Minerals makeup brushes. This brush is too big for my eyelids.
  • The Body Shop Colourings eyeshadow brush – The Colourings makeup brushes have been discontinued for a long time now. I’m so glad I got these before they did. Guess what? They’re 1 pound each (from the 1-pound sales) :p
  • The Body Shop Colourings eyeshadow brush (small)
  • Manicare Artiste Professional small shadow brush #30 – Manicare came up with this great range of makeup brushes at Priceline and Myer. There are a lot of different types of makeup brushes, and the display reminded me of how they display makeup brushes at Sephora. There are a lot of dupes too, like the MAC #187. I’ll sneak a picture at Priceline and show you.
  • Manicare Artist Professional sponge tip shadow brush #37 – the hard tip makes it very easy to apply dark shadow as eyeliner on the upper and lower lids.
  • Bloom slanted eyeliner brush
  • Silk Naturals double ended synthetic eye brush – pretty convenient for traveling when you have two brushes in one.
  • MUJI eyebrow brush

I forgot to add these brushes in with the picture above.

These are travel-sized brushes from Lumiere Cosmetics. These are excellent for traveling.

Lip Brushes

The black one is from Manicare Artiste Professional, and the silver from The Face Shop. The Manicare one comes with a retractable brush, whereas the one from The Face Shop comes with a cap which elongates the brush.

That’s it! I don’t use all of them at once, of course, but I like it that I have the option to. Tee hee hee.

What’s your makeup brush collection like? Go ahead and do a post about it. I’d love me some makeup brush p0rn :p

Malaysia Bound

My bags are packed, and I’m off to Malaysia this afternoon! Thanks to my accrued Enrich miles over the years, I’ll flying via business class for the first time.

KLCC

Lots of things going on for me this trip. There’s my cousin’s wedding this Saturday (apparently I’m supposed to sing at the wedding too, but I can’t remember how the song goes. I’m so dead), meeting up with my girlfriends, meeting up with my extended family for Chinese New Year, etc. Oh oh, and I’ll be meeting some of you as well, which I’m really looking forward to 🙂

I’ll be gone for three weeks, and posts will be sporadic. I’m afraid I didn’t have much time to schedule any posts, but I’ll do my best to post from Malaysia instead.

Till then, stay gorgeous 😉

Poll: Do You Use Serums?

Good Wednesday, ladies! I hope the week is treating y’all well so far. I’m still packing for my trip to Malaysia so the room is looking pretty messy at the moment. As in bags, clothes and plastic bags all over the place till there’s barely room to walk. Tsk tsk.

In the meantime, I thought I’d bring up a poll for you. Today’s question is – do you use serums?

I introduced serums into my skincare routine 4 years ago. Even though Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel and Moisture Surge are my favourite moisturisers, they serve nothing more than a hydrating medium for my skin. As I grew older, I knew that my skin needed more. This is where the serums came in.

Different serums are used for my day and night skincare routines. During the day, before applying my moisturiser, I use Cellnique’s Pro Sebum Gel (to prevent breakouts) and Olay’s Regenerist Serum. It might seem a lot for the day, but these gels are so light, that they do not weigh my skin down nor cause any breakouts.

My Serums

At night, just before I sleep, I’d apply Clinique’s Turnaround Concentrate Visible Skin Renewer and Paula’s Choice’s Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate (I’ll do a review on this soon). The former works as a skin exfoliant, and the latter is a boost of antioxidants for the skin. I apply them daily without fail, and have achieved good results.

It seems like a lot on the skin, I know, but I use serums very sparingly. Only a smaller-than-a-pea-sized blob of each serum is needed for the entire face and neck. As a result, my skin has become a lot smoother, and my skin tone a lot more even.

What about you? Do you use serums too? If so, do you just use one, or many like me? 😛

The poll will close in a month.

FOTD for Matinee of Wicked

I went to the matinee of Wicked The Musical on Sunday with Geekchic and her husband. I was absolutely blown away by the great music, fantastic costumes and elaborate sets. We had great seats; I think we were sitting at the 6th row from the front. If you’ve not watched it, and if you get the opportunity to, don’t hesitate. Go watch it! I was utterly high from musical. Still am, in fact.

Wicked The Musical Souvenir Program
Souvenir program for 20 bucks

As you can see below, I put on very simple makeup to the matinee of Wicked. I didn’t know what to expect, if the rest of the patrons would be dolling up or not (they didn’t), so I kept my eye makeup very subtle. I prefer a flawless face to meticulously applied eye makeup which people can hardly see anytime 🙂

FOTD for Wicked the Musical 2

Come to think about it, I should have gone green on the eyes, huh? :p

Sigh … I can’t seem to take good photos of my eye makeup. I don’t like to use the flash as it blinds my eyes, but using the flash is the only way to make the makeup more apparent. How do you girls do it?

This *ahem* young *ahem* Padawan has much to learn.
