Review: Clinique Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief

I don’t know about you, but I have not had a good relationship with night creams in a long time. They were often too thick and rich for me, which made my face even oilier in the mornings. Until I discovered Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief.

Description:

Boots skin’s moisture level
Restores the skin’s balance
Comforts, softens & smoothes the skin
Plumps up fine dry lines
Oil-free & 100% fragrance free
For all skin types

I’ve been using this moisturiser as a night cream for the past 3 months, and it is, by far, the best night cream I’ve used. As night creams are richer than day creams, most night creams caused my skin to break out. I have combination skin, with a very oily T-zone, so I cannot have rich creams on my face. So even though it says that it’s for all skin types, I think it works better for those with combination or oily skin.

The Moisture Surge comes in the form of a gel, which is great for combination/oily skin. It has a lovely cooling effect on the skin and keeps my skin matte. This can also be used as a mask; just slather a generous amount of gel onto the skin, leave it on for a few minutes, gently massaging the gel in. Finish off by blotting the excess gel with a tissue.

It worked very well for me, especially in the cold and dry weather. The moisturiser kept my skin properly hydrated despite the fact that it wasn’t a rich cream. Too bad I finished the last drop of the moisturiser last night. Time to get a new one!

Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief retails at USD34 in the US, which you can get online. As usual, it is bloody overpriced in Australia, selling at AUD60 (available at Myer). I decided to save some money and ordered it on Strawberrynet instead for AUD42.50 (RM125.50). For my Malaysian readers, I’d suggest you to get this at Malaysian airports, as it is not only cheaper, but you also get better deals (especially the limited edition travel versions) with other products of the same range.

What I like about it: Not too rich, yet kept my skin properly hydrated. Does not leave any oily residue, and has a nice cooling effect on the skin.

What I did not like about it: Nothing. I love it!

ooOoo…i’ve always been using Estee Lauder…but recently been thinking to switch to Clinique, its sister company, since it is much cheaper . But i’m not sure if clinique would suit my skin.

i saw this at myer today and was almost drawn to the clinique counter to check it out… instead sense got the better of me and i went home empty-handed O:)

is it ok to use here in msia when the weather is not dry nor cold? will it be too oily? I don’t use night creams too due to oily face. sometimes the clinique has promotions, those tht u buy >250rm u get those samples. i think now is a good season to buy since it’s mother’s day 😀 too bad you are in aust.

You know, I never had a good relationship with Clinique. I rather liked their Repairwear cream but that broke me out too after a spell. For now, my night cream is that blue silk cream I reviewed previously. Its not a gel but it feels lovely on and doesn’t break me out 🙂

I know a lot of people who loves this product and I know a lot who hated this!

I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE this product!!!! I’ve been using this for almost 3months now and gone are my dry flaky skin 🙂 🙂 🙂 The finish is wonderful, not too oily and doesn’t get oily, actually, to be honest, it’s texture reminds me of the Smashbox Photofinish Primer 🙂

    Fashionasia:
For some reason, Clinique doesn’t suit all skin. It didn’t work for ParisB, but it worked tremendously for me. I, on the other hand, can’t seem to get Estee Lauder to work for me. Weird eh?

    Cheeeezie:
Hehe, oh thank goodness for you then. Clinique at Myer’s not doing any good gift-with-purchase promotions now (only an ugly-ass bag), even with Mother’s Day coming up, so I don’t see the point of paying AUD60 for something you can get cheaper elsewhere. So good for you for being good :p

    Prettybeautiful:
Oh absolutely! I started using this in Malaysia actually, before I came here. As I slept in an air-conditioned room, I needed something to keep my skin hydrated without all that thick, icky feeling. This gel worked fine for me.

Do get it when there’s a good deal. It’s a pity the sales assistants in Malaysia are so stingy with free samples, or else you could give it a go first before forking out the money. What I’d do if I want to try out a particular skincare product (you can’t test skincare products at the counter; you have to try it out for a few days to see if it works out for you) but don’t want to pay that much money yet would be to check out eBay. A lot of sellers on eBay Malaysia unload their gift-with-purchase items there at a much lower price. Of course, you’d be looking at maybe only about 5ml of product (for that price, you can get a full bottle of a lower-end product), so it really is up to you. That was what I did with some Lancome products. Didn’t really suit me, so thank goodness I didn’t pay hundreds of ringgit for them.

    Paris:
Hmmm it could be something for me to check out. Thanks for the suggestion and link! 🙂

    Askmewhats:
It’s a love-hate thing, isn’t it? :p I’ve never tried Smashbox’s Photofinish Primer, but since you said it’s something like the moisture surge, then hmm it could be something I’d love to try out too!

I’ve been longing to try Clinique for a while now. Maybe this shall be my 1st Clinique trial product. Shall get a sample size first from trusted eBay.

Ooh..I’ve heard a lot of raves about Blue Silk Cream. My sis showed me the website a couple of months back. Never got around to ordering a sample. Hehe…

Clinique was a brand I used when I was younger. I remember the surge but not sure if it was the same formula I used. Pink cream, and I rather like it then. One thing about Clinique…their creams have got very attractive colors.

thanks for the head up. i almost wanted to buy lancome hydrazen series, but an essence and the moisturizer cost about rm400. ouch! i think now i will wreck ebay to see if there is any good deals. i might buy this clinique on strawberry net since it is about usd40 and its rm169 here~!

    Indulgent Diva:
Yeah, do give that a go. It might not suit your skin, but at least you didn’t have to fork out so much money to learn that lesson.

I checked out the website; am afraid that the Blue Silk Creme is far too expensive for me to order online without having trying it out first. Even with the sample, I’d have to pay a lot for shipping fees. I’d give it a miss for now.

    Sesame:
Oh yeah, let’s see, they have blue creams (turnaround), yellow creams (dramatically different moisturiser), orange creams (moisture surge), and what have yous :p

    Prettybeautiful:
Oh boy, I didn’t realise it was RM169! And there I was, wondering if I should have waited till I go home and buy instead. Thanks for the info :p
