Review: Badger Night Night Balm

I first heard about Badger balms from Beetrice when she bought a few tins back from her trip to London in 2007. Badger balms are sadly not available in Malaysia (not to my knowledge anyway). So when I saw the Badger balms in David Jones, I thought I’d try one out. I was originally going to buy the Sleep Balm but found the smell a tad strong, so I decided to get the Night Night balm for children instead.

Badger Night Night Balm

Description:

Night-Night Balm is made to help ease younger minds into the magical realm of the sleep world. For this special kid-friendly formula, we chose essential oils that are known to be good for children and are also known to promote feelings of safety, cheerfulness, reverence and calm. Chamomile helps children to calm down and unwind from nighttime activities. Lavender helps children to relax and feel soothed, while Sandalwood instlls a feeling of reverence. Mandarin & Spearmint help kids feel safe and uplifted. Rub a little onto temples, neck, lips, wrists or anywhere that will help to diffuse the wonderful aroma into the air around the child.

Ingredients:
Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Natural Beeswax, Organic Castor Bean Oil, Organic Aloe Extract, Essential Oils of Lavender, Sandalwood, Mandarin, Spearmint, and Organic Chamomile.

The texture of the balm is waxy, and kinda reminds me of Zambuk ointment (does anyone remember that?). It has a lovely, soothing scent of lavender (and all that stuff you read in the description :p). It’s not very sticky, which is good, because I can’t stand sticky goo on my nose. Although due to its hardly-sticky-ness, you might need to swipe the balm more to get the wax out.

The balm claims to help children sleep easier. I don’t know about kids since I do not have children, but it sure helped me when I was having restless nights. The scent calmed my senses. The husband loves it too; when he had trouble sleeping due to an upset stomach, I rubbed the ointment on his chest and nose. The next thing I heard were snores 😛

It’s not as strong as Vicks so it wouldn’t be as effective if used to nurse a cold. But the mild and comforting scent would help to ease a restless night anytime.

Badger balms come in adorable little tins with pictures of different badgers on the cover, depending on the type of balm. A 0.75oz balm costs USD5.50 or AUD13.95, and a 2oz balm USD10 or AUD19.95. You can get this from David Jones. A 2oz tin would last you donkey years.

I don’t like the fact that it costs a lot more in Australia though. Damn import taxes. Oh well, I’ll save that rant for another post.

My next purchase would be the Winter Wonder Balm, given that it’s winter now. Can’t wait to try it out!

What I like about it: Comes in an adorable, portable tin. Love the mild scent.

What I did not like about it: The wax is quite hard, so you have to rub hard on it to get it out.

Poll: How Often Do You Use Sunscreen?

Happy Wednesday, ladies! It’s not such a good day for me, as I’m having non-stop sniffles and am pretty much stuck in bed with a hot water bottle and cups and cups of hot Lemsip.

Okay, sniffles and nose-juice aside (tee hee hee), the question of the day, and I think it’s an important one, is – how often do you use sunscreen?

Woman Applying Cream On Face

I can’t really remember when it was that I started wearing sunscreen regularly. My mum gave me her tube of Clinique’s City Block, and told me to start using sunscreen regularly if I want to keep those freckles at bay. A beautician told her that even though you could be indoors most of the time, the fluorescent lamps could still emit UV rays. I’m not sure how true that is, but there’s no harm in having sunscreen on indoors too (except at night).

When it became a part of my skincare routine, I wore sunscreen over my day moisturiser every day. I’d feel strangely naked without it on. Although I do have a sad confession to make – I hardly wear sunscreen on my arms and legs. I really should do so, but I always forget to. I really have to introduce that into my routine. Gah.

Anyhoos. What about you? How often do you use sunscreen? Do you just apply sunscreen on your face and neck, or on your arms and legs as well??

The poll closes in a month.

What’s In My Makeup Bag (July ’08)

I thought I’d do another post of What’s In My Bag since most of the items have changed. But this time I’ll be doing a “What’s In My Makeup Bag”, and I’m going to be tagging people as well just to get y’all to show us what’s in your makeup bag.

These are the items which I bring out with me everyday. There’s actually very little makeup inside the makeup bag; only the necessities. Still, it seems like a lot of junk, huh?

Makeup Bag July 2008

The makeup bag is from Bloom
Wet wipes
Band aids
Tampons and pantyliners
A packet of tissues
Hand sanitiser
Hairbrush
L’occitane Cherry Blossom Petal-Soft Hand Cream
Hair elastics and bobbi pins
Contact lens lubricant
Khiel’s lip gloss
The Body Shop tea tree oil facial blotters
Loreal True Match powder
Softlips lip balm in Sparkle Mint
Silk Naturals lip gloss in Foreplay
A vial of Ralph Lauren’s Lauren Style perfume
Mirror
Two vials of Optrex eye drops

Yep, these are what I bring with me on a daily basis. Stay tuned, because these items may and will most likely change again in 6 months :p

So now I want to know from these ladies, and anyone else who’d love to share what’s in their makeup bag:

What’s in your makeup bag? Show us photos, do a video, etc. Share! 😉
