New Feature – CLASSIFIEDS

Hey ladies,

When I started this blog, I wanted it to be a community of women who shared the same love that I have for all things beautiful, and also to admit, “yes, I’m a beautyholic too!” :p I also had a desire to create a space where we, the ultimate beauty junkies, can sell off the stuff which we hardly used and do not need.

You should look at my ‘beauty’ cupboard (I’ll post a picture of it some day). In it, I have hardly-used, never opened lotions and potions which are taking up precious space, when instead, I could maybe sell it off at a lower price to someone who might want to try it! PLUS, with the freed-up space, I’ll be able to *ahem* get more. (somebody stop me!)

Anyhoos, I’ve created a section (check out the sidebar; it’s just below the ads), called “Classifieds” where you can try to sell off your stuff here. Just email me of the stuff you wanna sell (preferably beauty products, please), with any further information you can give me (things would sell better if there are pictures provided too), and I’ll post it up here. Oh, and did I mention, it’s all free of charge 🙂

Each listing will be here for a month, and after that, I’ll contact you again to ask you if you would like to continue listing the product(s) for another month. Once any of the items are sold, just give me a holler, and I’ll amend the listing. How simple’s that?

At the moment, I’m still using this blog as a starting point; I might actually move the Classifieds to a proper forum instead. That’s still in the works, of course.

So ladies, if you want to barter your beauty stuff off, just email me at sweetcontemplation[at]gmail[dot]com, or use the contact form instead.

Okay, the nitty gritties of the stuff which you want to sell:
1. No expired products (please bin them; there’s no point in keeping them, and to sell ’em off, even at a very low price, is vey bad taste)
2. It must be in good condition – if you want to list something which looks like it’s been battered in a washing machine, please state the reason it’s looking manky. At the very least, do make sure it still looks okay.

Beautyholics Anonymous reserves the right to select (or reject – but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that) every product listed. But don’t worry, I’m nice, I won’t give you a hard time 😉

Love,
Tine

Green Tea As Protection Against Sun Damage

Look at the skincare products on the market these days, and chances are, you’ll find a lot of them with green tea extract. A lot of beauty products are infused with green tea these days; hey, green tea’s the new black (tea).

Green Tea 1

So, what’s the big deal with green tea? We know that green tea is a good antioxidant for our body. Specifically, what benefits does it bring to our skin?

According to Smart Skin Care, green tea has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and are likely to slow down the development of some signs of aging. However, whether green tea can actually diminish wrinkles and skin sag remain uncertain. The extent of green tea benefits and its optimal usage is likely to be subjected to uncertainty for years to come. Yet, if you wish to include green tea into your skincare regime, there are sensible ways to go about it.

Green Tea 2

Sun protection benefits of green tea are particularly well reported. Green tea appears to protect against sun damage by quenching free radicals and reducing inflammation rather than to block UV rays. Thus, green tea may indirectly enhance screen protection when used in addition to a sunscreen. Of course, this does not mean to rub green tea leaves onto your skin together with sunscreen!

It is best to combine green tea with zinc oxide-based sunscreens because zinc oxide is chemically inert and should not react with green tea (which some chemical sunscreens might do, especially in sunlight). I have yet to find a sunscreen with green tea formula here though; I shall update you when I do source one. It sounds like a good idea, doesn’t it? At least our sunscreens wouldn’t reek.

Stylebell – All About The Hair

When Stylebell says that they’re the premier hair resource, they weren’t kidding. You can get practically ANYTHING that has to do with haircare, or hair-styling on that site.

Stylebell Logo

I was pretty interested when Stylebell contacted me to inform my readers about the site (oh, just to be clear, I’m not paid to write this. After checking the site out, I thought it was a great source of haircare and styling products, which, to be honest, I haven’t seen before).

Stylebell caters haircare brands like Redken, Bain De Terre, Paul Mitchell, Biolage (I love this one), etc. You can also get hairdryers, flat irons, curling tongs, and many more. I spent quite a long time browsing the site because there’s just so much haircare stuff to find.

Here comes the sad part, for us Malaysians, that is – they do not ship internationally. Pity. Still, readers in the US could jolly well benefit from the site – Stylebell does free shipping for orders over $50.

For Beautyholics Anonymous readers in the US, well, you’re in luck :p

For any order over $100, you get $10 off, plus free shipping. Just enter code Style10 during checkout.

Body Shop Founder Dies

Anita Roddick

Dame Anita Roddick, the founder of one of my favourite brands, The Body Shop, passed away last night (10 September) after suffering a brain haemorrhage. More of the news here.

It’s sad news indeed, for Mrs Roddick has long been fighting on promoting human rights and environmental issues. The Body Shop has always advocated for care of the environment, animal protection and women rights through their products.

Rest in peace, Mrs Roddick. You will be missed.
