Review: Estee Lauder’s Lucidity Translucent Loose Powder

This is my all-time favourite loose powder, and by far the best I’ve used. I’m sure you’ve heard of it, for it is one of Estee Lauder’s bestsellers. Let me introduce you to Estee Lauder’s Lucidity Translucent Loose Powder

Estee Lauder Lucidity Translucent Loose Powder

This loose powder provides flawless coverage and luminous finish on your skin, after you’ve applied your foundation. What I like about this powder is that, compared to loose powders by Clinique and Shiseido, it’s very fine, and does not make your makeup look cakey.

Description:

For a luminous finish that minimizes the look of lines and wrinkles.
Special ingredients diffuse light as it hits your skin, creating a “soft-focus” effect that visibly smooths the appearance of your skin.
Dermatologist-tested.

The loose powder comes with a small puff which is used to apply the powder. The blue container has a plastic cover with holes in it, to prevent overspill of powder (you wouldn’t want too much powder on your skin either; just a light overall sweep will do).

I prefer to very lightly puff my face with powder, and use my face brush to even the application. By sweeping the brush in a downward angle, I “close” the pores, giving my skin a more flawless appearance.

Estee Lauder Lucidity Translucent Loose Powder Swatches

I use Transparent 06; apparently this is a popular choice of colour amongst Malaysians, as they are almost always sold out. I remembered going from one shopping centre to another, to the Estee Lauder counters just to get this particular colour, and more often than not, they were sold out, and I had to wait about 2 to 4 weeks before they restock. I don’t know why they take so long to replenish their stock; it’s best to get the powder when it’s available, and not wait till your supply’s dwindled.

Estee Lauder’s Lucidity Translucent Loose Powder retails at RM120 at all Estee Lauder counters.

What I like about it: The fine powder gives my skin a flawless look, and I do not feel as though I’m wearing anything on my face

What I did not like about it: Malaysian Estee Lauder counters seem to take ages to get the loose powder replenished.

Clinique Play In The Darks

I don’t normally wear makeup by Clinique (so far, it’s only been the skincare range I’m interested in), but the Fall 2007 collection looks pretty good, so like Bobbi Brown, that I just have to share it with y’all.

Fall 2007’s makeup range is called Play In The Darks, and from the looks of it, smokey, earthy colours are all in the rage. Very fall colours, no?

Play in the Dark Fall 2007 will be available at Clinique counters in the US in August 2007. I reckon we wouldn’t have to wait too long after that. I can’t wait to get my hands on the Brush-on Cream Liner.

Fake Makeup on eBay

Have you ever bought makeup on Ebay?

I haven’t. And I’m not about to either. There are so many fakes out there, selling the pieces for a fraction of the real price. An example would be MAC.

MAC Fakes

MAC’s a popular auction item in the makeup section. MAC pigments are quite a popular selling item too, but more of than not, the tubs of pigments aren’t being sold, just a teaspoon (or less) of it, for perhaps RM15. But how do you vouch for their authenticity? Who knows, the seller might just be selling you a low-grade makeup product, claiming it to be genuine. I certainly wouldn’t pay RM15 for a quarter of a teaspoon of powder, no matter how fancy the brand is. It’s worse if you can’t even be 100% certain you’re not being played for a patsy.

I came across this article which shows you the differences between real and fake MAC eyeshadows. It’s pretty interesting; the differences are all in the packaging, but they’re pretty subtle, so unless you’re a huge MAC fan and have purchased every single one of their eyeshadows, you probably wouldn’t even notice the difference.

This is not to promote MAC, but just for you to be aware of different fakes out there. I wouldn’t recommend buying makeup off Ebay, no matter how cheap it is. It’s your skin, your face, and you deserve better. You don’t need to have to be big brands on your skin for it to be good. High street products work wonders too, as long as you buy ’em at reputable stores.

Review: Palmer’s Olive Butter Formula Lotion

I’ve heard of Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula creams and lotions when I was in the UK, but never tried any of the range as I do not like the smell of cocoa butter (I have one from the Body Shop Spa Wisdom range, and I really dislike the smell. More on that in my future posts).

Palmer's Olive Butter Formula

The Olive Butter range came out recently, and to be honest, I never would have tried it out if not for a free sample sachet of the lotion in one of the fashion magazines I read. I tried it on in just one application, and I must say, I’m hooked!

Description:

Palmer’s Olive Butter Formula™ has the power to transform your skin. Extra Virgin Olive Oil takes care of your skin in three ways:
1) Unique lipid structure moisturizes instantly.
2) Loaded with antioxidants to keep skin youthful.
3) Emulsifies on contact for superior skin smoothing.
As this creamy lotion penetrates, skin immediately feels soothed and softened. Absorbs quickly and leaves skin visibly improved.

I love the fact that it’s non-greasy on the skin. I absolutely hate lotions and creams which leave an oily residue on the skin. The lotion was immediately absorbed when I applied it, and my skin felt soft and moisturised.

I’ve been using the lotion for a week now (I just had to get a bottle of my own), and the dry skin on my elbows have significantly improved. It’s not too rich, which is good for our humid weather. I also like the fact that it contains Vitamin E; Vitamin E does wonders on dry skin, keeping it nicely moisturised.

Oh, and it smells quite fresh too. I’m really particular about a body lotion’s fragrance (I can’t wear anything too strong), and I give this one a thumbs up. It might a tad heavy when you first apply the lotion; give it a minute or so, and the fragrance will soon settle down, leaving a subtle scent.

I highly recommend this to anyone with dry skin. Of course, for those with normal or oily skin, you can use this too, as it’s not that heavy, and definitely not greasy.

The 250ml bottle retails at around RM33 at Guardian and Watsons.

What I like about it: Non-greasy, effective body lotion; decent price for a family-sized bottle

What I did not like about it: Nothing, really. I love it!
