Review: Kanebo Freshel White C Cleansing Oil

After reading Paris‘ take on double cleansing, I thought I’d give it a go. My initial opinion of double-cleansing was “Huh? Clean twice? Won’t it activate even more sebum on my face?” The answer, after trying it out for a bit, is no.

The oil-based cleanser I’m currently using is Kanebo Freshel White C Cleansing Oil. I know that Shu Uemura has a popular range of cleansing oils, but as they’re currently a bit too expensive for me, I thought I’d try out Kanebo’s lower-end range. And I was not disappointed.

Kanebo Freshel White C Cleansing oil

Ingredients:

Mineral oil (paraffinum liquidum), Ethylhexyl palmitate, Peg-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Diglyceryl sebacate/ isopalmitate, Water (aqua), Squalane, Olea Europaea (olive) fruit oil, Citrus unshiu peel extract, Perilla ocymoides leaf extract, Tocopherol.

I use the cleansing oil on the days which I wear makeup. Since I wear foundation, blusher and all that to work, I tend to do the double-cleansing ritual after work. The cleansing oil did a good job removing all the foundation and other makeup off my face, leaving no residue. What was even better was that it left my skin feeling soft and smooth. It was not at all oily, nor did it cause extra sebum builtup on my face. Props to Kanebo for that.

A little information about double cleansing, for those who aren’t too sure about how that works:

1. Apply the cleansing oil to your entire face and massage it into areas with more makeup, gently working into the eyes.
2. Wash it off with water, thus removing all makeup (leave the eyes for last, but be very gentle with them). Make sure your hands are absolutely dry when you pour the cleansing oil onto your hands before working it onto your face. When the oil mixes with water, it will emulsify.
3. Next, lather your face with your normal cleanser, and wash your face thoroughly.
4. Tone, and then moisturise.

I have combination skin, and so far, there are no problems with my skin, which is good. I’m quite liking this cleansing oil; I might just buy another bottle of this once it’s finished 😉

The Kanebo Freshel White C Cleansing Oil retails at RM43.70 at Sasa.

What I like about it: Doesn’t leave any makeup residue on the skin; after wash, it leaves my skin soft and supple.

What I did not like about it: Nothing really.

StrawberryNET.com

I just got myself affiliated with StrawberryNET. Yay. For the uninformed, StrawberryNET is the online global leader in cosmetics, fragrance, and skincare products offering deals at up to 50% less than retail prices on more than 20,000 products. What’s great about this site is that it offers free worldwide shipping on all sales. Yep, that’s right. No matter how minimal your purchase is. Cool, eh?

Now I’m not just writing this review because I’m affiliated to the program, not just because it offers beauty products of major international brands, but to also praise their great customer service. Early this year, I purchased the Scott Barnes Chic Palette from StrawberryNET. There were some discrepancies in the transaction, which I honestly wasn’t too pleased about. The customer service staff was very quick to reply, and things were ironed out very quickly. Let’s just say I was one happy customer.

Look out for the sales (Gifts and Specials) too. The Top 20 Specials and Special Purchase sections are worth checking out, especially when you can get a lot of the items at discounted prices (compared to their normal retail prices).

Happy Shopping!

Lancôme Ombre Glacèe Cooling Eye Shadow Gel

Lancome just came out with their limited edition of their eye makeup – Lancôme Ombre Glacèe Cooling Eye Shadow Gel. These eyeshadow gels give eyelids give a burst of icy freshness, which, in my opinion, would do great in our hot, tropical weather. Imagine having literally cool eyelids, eh?

According to Marie Claire UK, these eye-shadow gels are out in the UK stores now, at all Lancome counters. I’m not sure if they are out in Malaysia yet, but once they are, I’m getting ’em. They’re currently selling for £14.50 in the UK, in two shades – Vert Boho and Rose Bali.

Makeup Removal

I recently read this in Her World, and thought it to be a very useful tip to share about makeup removal. When I went for my personal grooming and makeup course in Stella-in, the beauty experts thought us how to properly remove makeup too, which I will talk about later. For now, let’s take a general look at makeup removal.

Getting your makeup off is a tricky process. You don’t want to pull or tug at the delicate skin around your eyes, nor do you want to dry it out by using a harsh cleanser or makeup remover. Here are a few pointers for you to help with your makeup removal every night.

  • Never go to bed without removing your makeup! Not only will it stain your pillowcase, it will also cause your pores to clog, resulting in unsightly breakouts and other skin problems.
  • Use a cotton ball to remove makeup on your eyelids, and a cotton bud to remove any traces of liner on your upper and lower lids.
  • When washing your face with a cleanser after removing your makeup, make sure you rinse thoroughly to remove all the cleanser and makeup remover residue.
  • Try not to use a makeup remover designed for the eyes and lips on the other parts of your face. Read the label before buying, and stick to its specific uses.
Question of the day: What type of makeup removal do you use? Cream? Lotion? Or simply facial wipes?
