When Nikki of Askmewhats blogged about her favourite magazines, I knew I had to do the same because like her, I'm also a real magazine junkie.
I started reading girly magazines at the age of 12, when my dad brought home my very first Teen and Teenage magazines from Singapore. It was such a refreshing change from educational magazines like Kuntum and Dewan Pelajar, that I read those magazines over and over. Everytime my parents travel to Singapore on business, I'd beg them to bring home new issues of the magazines. After a while, the frequency of those business trips decreased significantly, and I lost my fix. So imagine my utter delight, when CLEO Malaysia was launched in 1996. I bought every single issue then, up to the time I left for the UK to further my studies.
The addiction did not stop there. Given that the UK stocked a lot more magazines than Malaysia, especially the international ones, I got so crazy with them, that I spent so much money on magazines alone. It's enough money for at least one return trip to Europe. Yep, it was that bad. I had to give a lot of them away to charity shops when I had to leave the UK. How my heart broke then.
Thank God for beauty blogs, due to which I drastically reduced my magazine purchases. I got to read the latest news on fashion and beauty way before it comes out on print.
The darn glossy pages still attract me like a moth to a flame though. Here are some of the magazines which I read regularly, here in Australia.
1. InStyle

I started reading InStyle regularly when I was in Malaysia. This international magazine (I read the ones from the US and the UK) is ridiculously expensive in Malaysia; it ranges from RM18 to RM27 per issue. I know, I know, that would be equivalent to the price of a paperback. I love this magazine because it caters to a more mature audience. Not old aunties, mind you, but at least it's not full of teenybopping fashion and articles.
I subscribe to InStyle here in Australia. I managed to snag a good deal in the subscription package, which saves me 40% off the newstand price. I enter the Grab Bag competition every month, but I never win. Oh well. I'm still hopeful :)
2. Cosmopolitan

You don't get much beauty and fashion tips here compared to relationship and sex issues. What can I say? Lots to learn about sex here *nudge nudge*. Plus, there's a sealed erotica section in the magazine, which is always fun to read *wink wink* :p
3. Shop Till You Drop

This is another magazine that I subscribe to. I enjoy the fashion articles in the magazine, and the clothes are fantastic. Their "Buys Under $50" pages are always an inspiration to a cheapo like me :p
Another reason I enjoy reading this is because I really like the layout design in the magazine. The concept is interesting pictures and articles on one big idea notice board if you will. It's something which I've secretly always wanted to have, an idea board.
4. Foodie Magazines

Okay, these aren't fashion and beauty magazines, but I thought they were worth a mention, because I've made many delicious meals from the recipes found in these magazines. I'm not a good cook; at least, I'm not a creative one, and am still a greenhorn when it comes to seasonal produce and what to do with them. Plus, the mouth-watering pictures of yummy morsels are more than enough to hook me in, line and sinker.
Ironically, a magazine which I hardly read nowadays is CLEO. I guess I've outgrown the magazine, which is now more and more catered to those in their late teens or early twenties. Oh CLEO, you and I, we'll always have good times.
So, is there anyone out there who shares my love for the glossy pages? What are your favourite magazines? Do share ;)

Social Networking and Web Tracking for Beauty Bloggers
12 Comments Posted by Tine on Jul 7, 2008 at 7:43 PM.
I'm going to do a bit of a non-beauty related post today. Sorry ladies, no makeup talk today :p
If you're a beauty blogger and/or reader, and are interested in reaching out to other beauty bloggers and readers, a great way to do so is by social networking. I discovered lots of great beauty sites and blogs through beauty networks and communities such as Beauty Heaven (for Australian readers), Bella Sugar, Splendicity and Total Beauty. If you're a beauty blogger who isn't part of a beauty community yet, do check those communities out. Give 'em a shout if you'd like to be a part of the communities.
A good way to gain readership to your site is to actively participate in beauty networks and blogs. You get to meet people who loves makeup just as much as you do, if not more. Participate in their blogs by comments, and you'll see a good return in comments and readership as well. There is no shortcut in quick page rank increase though. All these take time. But trust me, at the end of the day, it's a worthy wait.
Have a web statistics meter running on your blog to know who visited your site, if you haven't already. You'd be surprised at the actual number of silent readers you have. It's a great way in keeping in touch with your readers when you know who they are (especially the silent ones who visit your site regularly but do not comment - haha, I know who you are! :p)
Anyways, on my part to network, network and network with all you beauty bloggers and readers out there, do check me out on Twitter and Myspace. I've also added the links to my sidebar.
The Myspace page is mainly set up for my beauty blog, but I tweet personal stuff. I'm quite a Twitter-holic :p
Let's see ... what else is there?
Oh oh, have you heard of Woopra?

It's a website tracker and analyser, which, I think, is absolutely fantastic. I've been wanting to talk about this for a while now. It features real-time web-tracking and analysis. You get to view exactly how many people visited your website, where they were from, which of your pages are more popular and other important information. It's like Statcounter, but on a whole new level. I'm really excited about this one, and I highly recommend this site for web tracking.
Unfortunately, this isn't readily available to all. After signing up for an account, your website will be checked before approval. I got mine approved after a couple of weeks. I don't think it's going to be a problem though. Doesn't hurt to sign up for one, so do give it a go. I can tell you're going to like it once you get it set up. I had such a blast finding out who my readers were and all that. Call it healthy voyeurism :p
This is a blogging community service by Beautyholics Anonymous. We shall now return to our regularly scheduled program.
PS: By the way, this is not a sponsored post. Just some information which I thought you might be interested in.

Hiya ladies,
My apologies for going MIA on y'all. I'm taking a bit of a break from the blogging scene, just as gift to myself on my *ahem* birthday :p I'm so absorbed in this, it's not funny.

The Nintendo Wii and Wii Fit, both birthday presents from the husband. Do I or do I not have the best man in the world? Hehehe! It's great exercise and I so desperately need it for the winter months when it's too cold for me to go running outside.
I'll be back real soon, I promise. More reviews, coming right up!
Love,
Tine

Oh my goodness, I just realised, I missed the first anniversary of Beautyholics Anonymous by 4 days!
Has it really been a year already? Where did the time go?
Oh what a journey it has been. I've made new friends, met up with new friends, and had quite a number of *ahem* freebies coming my way which I was very grateful for. I've learnt AND spent more money on makeup than I ever did ever since I starting using makeup :p
It's good. It's all good. And it's all down to y'all, my lovely readers. Without you, there will be no Beautyholics Anonymous. So kudos to all of you.
Here's to another great year ahead, all you beautyholics!

I'm so in love with mineral makeup right now. I bought Everyday Minerals a month ago, and am absolutely hooked. I'll do a review on what I used very soon.
Just an hour ago, I placed an order for a sample kit from Silk Naturals. It should arrive in 3 weeks, I think. Oh, and also makeup brushes from Lumiere.
Damn you, online shopping!!

Behold the new look for Beautyholics Anonymous!
I thought it was time to change the template for this blog. The previous template served me well for almost a year, and I really love the pink and black colour combination, but I reckoned it was time for some changes.
I took a ready-made template from Geckoandfly and modified it to suit my taste. All the images used in the template is actually taken from Microsoft's Clipart and modified them using Photoshop. I actually came up with three headers before deciding on this one. Fickle, thy name is also woman :p
The sidebar remains the same. I've added a few tabs at the top of the posts for easy access (also tidied up the blogroll which used to be on my sidebar). It was also time to update the About Me page, so do check it out. And more importantly, I've added my favourite colour - PURPLE! I think it looks neater than before. I think. Hmm ...
Anyhoos, what do YOU think? :p

Dear readers,
My sincere apologies for the absence. The wedding's finally over, and I've just moved to Melbourne, thus I was really busy the past couple of months.
But now that all of those are over, I can finally concentrate on giving you lovely ladies more reviews and beauty-related information! You can bet I'm dying to try out the new products here in Australia. I can't wait to try out brands like Becca, Napolean Perdis, and even stuff we do not get back home like Cover Girl. Oooooh, I'm so excited!
So do stay tuned, and I shall be right back with more stuff.
Stay beautiful!
Love,
Tine

Happy New Year, ladies!
Here's to a fantabulous new year. My new year plans for this blog:
- A new template (currently working on one from scratch, thus taking a longer time to kick off)
- Giveaways (everyone loves a freebie, no? :p)
- More beauty reviews (I resolve to be more consistent with my postings)
Stay tuned, and stay beautiful!

Gee, 2008 is just around the corner. How time flies when you're having fun, eh?
I started this baby (blog) in May 2007, and sadly, I've been neglecting it due to my wedding preparations, work, and all that. I had big plans for this blog, and it started out great. It still is, albeit a little slower than I'd imagine. My bad for not following it closely. But there'll be changes once everything is settled, I promise.
So, beauty-wise, what did I learn in 2007?
- I went for a makeup course at Stella-In. It wasn't cheap (RM380 for two classes), but it was so much fun as I went with a group of friends from work, and we had such a blast learning how to properly put on makeup. I would definitely encourage those of you who enjoy makeup to go for one, if not to learn more about skincare and makeup, then for a laugh, because it really is a whole lot of fun.
- Ever since I started the beauty blog, I began buying more beauty products! I used to be massive bag junkie (well, still am, albeit toning down a little), but now I hoard beauty products like there is no tomorrow. Everytime I see something new, I'd go "hey, I want this. Can blog about it" :p I was unstoppable. And now, I have a lot of barely used stuff which I'll be giving away to some of my girlfriends before I leave for Melbourne.
- I became my friends' unofficial beauty consultant. Free one at that (tsk tsk!). I don't claim to know a lot, but I really hope I did help y'all out a bit by dishing out a bit of advice here and there. Remember ladies, WE are our asset :)
- I became addicted to blusher (not as much as Paris, tee hee, but I'm so getting there). I love how it lights up my face on a dull and dreary day.
- I discovered loads of cheap and chic makeup and skincare products like Elianto and Clinelle. See, this is what happens when thoughts of "blogging about it" can't leave your mind.
- I finally found my holy grail of body lotions. Whee!
So yeah, that was what 2007 was for me. My pockets became lighter from the massive products I amassed, but I sure found a lot of goodies along the way. Let's hope that 2008 will bring us more new things to try out (ouch says my purse), especially when I'm in Melbourne. Can't wait to try out the Australian brands. Oh, and I'll also send some goodies back to some of you ;)
Cheers to 2007, and may 2008 bring you lovely ladies good finds and great bargains.
Stay beautiful!

Dahlink readers,
My apologies for not posting for a while (I apologise despite what other people may think I shouldn't even bother because it's my blog, yadda yadda yadda, I do have a responsibility towards my readers, and my advertisers). It's been a hectic couple of weeks, what with work and wedding preparations.
Many a time I find that I lack the energy to keep up with so many blogs of mine, but as this is my baby, I'm definitely not about to give it up. So please bear with me, for I do have more reviews (and *ahem* bitching about) on beauty stuff. For even though I'm tired from it all, I am still full of energy when it comes to shopping :p
I shall be back real soon, do stay tuned :)
Love,
Tine

We interrupt our program with some breaking (and beauty-unrelated) news.
After reading Problogger Darren Rowse's article on Widgetbucks to stop monetising non North-American traffic, I've decided to remove the Widgetbucks widget. Not going to waste precious sidebar space if it isn't going to earn me anything.
Oh, and geotargeting ads? What an idiotic idea. I'd sooner move on to something else which isn't that discriminating. I'm hardly getting anything out of it anyway.
So out you go.
We now return to our regularly scheduled program.

Dear ladies,
My apologies for the absence last week. I was in KL for my Australian visa application at the Australian High Commision, and also to attend to some wedding details.
BUT, being the shopaholic that I am, I bought something which I'm itching to show, all from my shopping at The Gardens, Mid Valley. Bloody expensive place to shop, I'd say, but still, I managed to snag something I've been wanting for ages.
Stay tuned!

Tine

Dear ladies,
Apologies for my lack of posts. It's been an emotionally and physically exhausting couple of weeks, due to work commitments, wedding preparations and Australian visa application. So many things to do, so little time. It's times like these that I wish I was a full-time blogger instead!
Anyways, taking the weekend off to relax and unwind, and hoping to write more here next week. Bought some makeup which I'd love to show y'all :)
Oh, and I have two more classifieds coming out very soon. Stay tuned!
Till then, stay beautiful!

Good news! One day into the Classifieds, and we already have a sale!
Well, even though it was only one product, but it's a great start. I'm really glad both buyer and seller hit it off well :)
As with all cash-on-deliveries, always practise caution when meeting up with your buyer/seller. I should think that all my readers are careful people, but one can never be too careful, right?
Here's to more. Ladies, do you have any beauty products which you'd like to unload? Do drop me a note if you do, and I'll set it up for you. One (wo)man's junk is another (wo)man's treasure!
Cheers!

I'm finally back from my week-long holiday. And with a change in status too. Tee hee hee!
Will be back with more beauty stuff once I'm a bit sorted with my work and all, which is sadly piling up after a week away from the office *gulp*. But rest assured, I'll be back very very soon, with more product reviews I managed to scour over the last couple of weeks ;)

Hello ladies (and the men who read my blog. Thanks guys!),
I'll be off to KL tomorrow morning, and as I'll be really busy all the way to our Registration of Marriage, posts will be sporadic. I'm really excited, and it only dawned on me yesterday, that I only have a week of singledom left!! Alrighty then, how am I going to squeeze my single life into one week?
Pretty easy, 'cos I have no life. Still, it's quite an overwhelming thought. In a good way.
Lots to do, lots to do. I'm praying for wisdom, guidance and, most importantly, patience to tackle everything bit by bit.
Anyhoos, I'll see you guys the following week, with an *ahem* change of status :p
Love,
Tine

IKEA's 2008 catalogue is out!

Not very beauty-related for today, but if you're an IKEA fan like me, you might wanna check out their latest catalogue. I'm still only at page 52. Lots more to go.
I'm a major fan of IKEA, and it sucks that there isn't an IKEA in Penang. I reckon my new place will be done up with loads of IKEA stuff; it'll look like a page from the catalogue!
I'll be heading to KL in a few weeks, and I'll definitely be dropping by the place. Who knows what small (can't lug home the furnitures. Shucks) goodies I'll be able to scour?
PS: Oooh, and do check out Ikea Hacker while you're at it. Great site about sprucing your place with IKEA stuff :p

Finally removed the stripey background of this blog's theme. A few of you have had your eyes *ahem* "dazzled" by the optical illusion stripes. Me too actually. Anyways, apologies for that. It's now removed :)

Hiya folks,
There's going to be a slight change in this blog. I'm going to be introducing advertisements soon (gosh, I can hear the "oh no, not another one" exclamations already). It's time I jump onto the blog monetisation bandwagon. Call me a sell-out if you wish, but like Paris said, they're simply commercials in a recorded movie which you can fast-forward if you do not wish to read it :)
I reckon I'm going to earn a pittance compared to what the rest are earning out there, but hey, it's a start. I'm not giving up my day job, that's for sure. If I'm going to write my passion here, I might as well get a lil' somethin' somethin' on the side, eh? ;)
Rest assured that I will keep the advertisements as unintrusive as possible. After all, I'm still very vain about my blog, and will try my hardest to keep it as pretty as possible. I will not be monetising my personal blog; as the word goes, once personal, let's keep it personal eh?
I'm not sure if I'll go into writing paid reviews just yet (not too keen on that, to be honest); we'll just have to see how that goes. But one thing I will not compromise, is the quality of the blog. It's my baby, after all :) But for the time being, do bear with me, k?

Cheers.
