A Warm And Sunny Complexion with Clarins’ Splendour Summer Bronzing Compact

If there’s one item in my makeup arsenal that I’ve yet to use on a regular basis, that would be bronzer. By the way, do you want to know when it was that I actually started using bronzer? It was early this year. Just this year! So for the years that I’ve learned about and used makeup, I don’t even touch bronzers. I’m your typical Chinese chick; I like to look as fair as possible and the thought of making myself look darker confuses me. Don’t believe me? Ask the next Chinese lady you come across if she uses bronzer or self-tanning cream. Okay there may be some but most don’t. 😛

Still, I thought that this year, I’d come out of my comfort zone and try something new in my makeup routine. Bronzer has always been something I’m reluctant to use because I don’t know how to get it right without looking like I’ve just made my face a few shades darker for no good reason. I started to learn how to contour my face. I’m still learning, by the way, so please forgive my pictures if I look a tad weird with the contouring.

When Clarins kindly sent me their new Splendour Summer Bronzing Compact to try out, all apprehensive thoughts of not wanting to use bronzer just went wooooosh out of the window. I mean, come on. Look at how beautiful this compact is!

Bloggie Wednesdays: How Not To Shove Your Blog Down Your Readers’ Throats Via Social Media

Twitter on iPad

Happy Wednesday, fellow beautyholics! Hope you’re had a stellar beginning to the week.

Here’s a hump day question for you. How often do you encounter this scenario?

You see a blogger tweet in the morning announcing that a new blog post is up. Two hours later, another tweet goes up telling you about that blog post. For the next 14 hours, 10 more tweets appear on the timeline, again telling you about that blog post. Some of them begin with “in case you missed it“. In 24 hours, that blogger would have tweeted at least 12 tweets just informing her followers about that bleepin’ blog post.

Would you like to join me in exclaiming “okay we get it! We didn’t miss your post!“?

Okay, I know I was being sarky there and I’m really not trying to be mean. It’s just that, all that tweeting about that new blog post of yours isn’t necessary. Now I understand the need to update different times of the day to cater to different timezones for international readers. But 12 tweets a day, averaging about one every 2 hours with the same content is a bit much, don’t you think?

How many times should I tweet a day to promote my blog post?

Love The Smell, Hate The Bottle

Remember when I wrote about how I love certain perfume bottles but can’t stand the smell? Today, I thought I’d do a follow-up on that post and share with you the fragrances I love but the packaging, not so much.

To be honest, this post was a lot more difficult to write because it was very tough finding ugly perfume bottles. Cosmetic companies always make sure that the packaging of the fragrances they sell are top notch, just in case the scent alone doesn’t attract customers. It’s a fair call and goodness knows the number of times I’ve been lured to gorgeous bottles first.

As I mentioned before, scent is very subjective. What I like/dislike may be the complete opposite for you. I’d say that the same thing goes for packaging. I may dislike the bottle but you may love it. Again, I’m not knocking your favourite fragrances here. I think these fragrances smell fantastic but there’s just something about the packaging I cannot stand.

L’Oreal Nude Magique CC Creams in Anti-Dullness and Anti-Fatigue: When Colour-Correcting Goes Into Overdrive

When L’Oreal Australia launched their Nude Magique Anti-Redness CC cream, the first thing on my mind was: where the heck were the other two CC creams? They were the ones I wanted to try! I didn’t understand why they only launched one CC cream and not all three back then (testing the market, perhaps?) but I waited patiently for them and 5 months later, they were finally here.

L'Oreal Nude Magique CC Creams in Anti-Dullness and Anti-Fatigue

When most CC creams are pretty much just BB creams, the L’Oreal Nude Magique ones actually contain colour-correcting pigments to combat problematic areas like redness, dull and fatigued skin. While I’m glad that they’ve actually taken the words Colour Correcting seriously, I have to wonder if they’ve gone a tad overboard with the amount of colour-correcting they offer.
