LMFF 2013 Day 1: Kicking It Off With Food As All Fashion Weeks Should

LMFF day one has begun!

It was all so exciting. Maia at Central Pier, Docklands, was absolutely buzzing with activity. Ladies dressed to the nines. Gentlemen looking mighty dapper in their suits. Champagne, juice and sparkling water circulating around. Fashionistas taking pictures and having their pictures taken. Lots of handshakes and air kisses. Oh yes, it was buzzing indeed. Oh, and did you know that the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival is the largest consumer fashion event in the WORLD? Whaddyaknow, all in wee Melbourne!

Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside knowing Melbourne is a host to such a colossal event. Mmmm… πŸ™‚

LMFF started off with a VIP luncheon hosted by the beautiful Megan Gale. The food was delicious (of course I can’t go past the food :P), the atmosphere was classy (black with white orchids and candles), and the company was good. It was only after Megan kicked off the lunch with a speech that I realised, OMG we’re seated at the same table! I was just 4 seats away from her. Talk about being starstruck. Me. *fans self furiously*

L’Oreal also welcomed Barbara Palvin to Melbourne. I liked how fun and cheeky she was. When Megan chatted with her on stage and asked her questions, she turned it the other way round and interviewed Megan instead! During the photography session towards the end of the lunch, she blew Megan a kiss. That’s what I like to see in young models (she’s only 19) – have fun, be fun. πŸ™‚

In between the courses, we were given a sneak peek of each look from each coming runway show. It wasn’t just a peek into the fashion; we also got to see the makeup looks created by Rae Morris. As I was lucky to sit right next to the runway, I managed to see the makeup pretty close up. And I have to say, the makeup and fashion were phenomenal. For a fashion n00b, I was blown away by how gorgeous the pieces were (ooh lookit me, calling ’em clothes “pieces” :P).

The lunch ended with yummy sweet treats and goodie bags for the guests. After the lunch, I even had the opportunity to have a one-on-one interview with Megan! I’ll do a separate post on the interview very soon.

My Experience of Day 1:

I’ll be honest. I was like a fish out of water. I was in very unfamiliar territory where I barely knew anyone, much less about fashion. Everyone was talking fashion, designers and I was like … err what? Talk to me about lipsticks, people! Makeup! Nails! Skincare! πŸ˜›

Thank heavens, I did know the L’Oreal PR and she kindly introduced me to some L’Oreal staff and one of the European bigwigs at L’Oreal (being the blubbering idiot that I was, I forgot to get his card *facepalm*). I also caught up with the other 4 L’Oreal Paris Official Bloggers, which was good.

On another bright note, I was absolutely chuffed at where the bloggers were seated. It’s truly an experience where bloggers are given the same opportunities as media usually would. Our table was in front and right next to the runway, which was fantastic for taking pictures and Instagramming.

I’ll tell you how starstruck I am with Megan Gale when I show you my short interview with her. Suffice it to say, I stuttered at the beginning and my hands were shaking whilst holding the voice recorder to her. Thank goodness I didn’t shove it in her face. πŸ˜›

LMFF 2013 Day 1: Kicking It Off With Food As All Fashion Weeks Should

All in all, it was a good first day and a great start to fashion week. The second day will kick off with an interview with Barbara Palvin in the morning and then the opening runway event back at Docklands. I can’t wait! πŸ˜€

I did! It was quite overwhelming at first especially since 1) I didn’t know anyone and 2) the fashion scene isn’t really my thing. It was difficult fitting in but I, err, barged my way in, I suppose. Gotta make an entrance or else I’d be kicked out the door! πŸ˜›

I’m so glad you got to witness this first hand and report it πŸ™‚ I’m glad I’m reading this to wash away the cynical piece I read earlier on by someone who probably knows jack about fashion πŸ˜›

    1. Tine

Oh yeah I remember that piece. Probably a cynical journo who’s been to one too many fashion weeks. It’s good to experience something with fresh eyes and mind. I still maintained there was panache. πŸ˜‰

OMG even though I’m not actually there, I can read how exciting it must have been. I love the fact that brands seem to have more spotlight to bloggers. I’m definitely a fashion n00b as well, but this still looks really exciting to me. Can’t wait for your recap of day 2.

It sure was exciting! Oh I’m a fashion n00b all right. I wore flats when everyone else wore heels. Wore skinny jeans when they were mostly wearing dresses and skirts. They wore Chanel, I wore Target. Tee hee πŸ˜›

Oh the food that day was GOOD. I bet everyone was dieting like mad for fashion week because there were quite a lot of unfinished plates. Me, I just scoffed everything πŸ˜€

haha you sound like me – I am a fashion nooby too and I have started calling clothing garments or pieces and it still sounds a little foreign to me. I have to agree though – the fashion is so amazingly beautify – looks great – I am jealous I wasn’t there.

    1. Tine

Hahahahaha garments! OMG me too! πŸ˜›
