Glossies on the iPad

The problem with being a magazine junkie is the amount of magazines you amass after a period of time. When I was in Malaysia, I donated them to my favourite hair salon. They get free magazines for their customers to read, I get excellent service. It’s win-win for both parties. However, over here in Australia, my favourite hair salon is quite a distance from where I live, and lugging kilos of magazines on the bus and train just does not cut it. So I donate them to my local Salvos.

Still, it really was time to cut down the amount of magazines I purchase on a monthly basis. First of all, even with Australian subscriptions (which is cheaper than buying them from the newsstands), I’m still creating a lot of clutter in my house. Not to mention a very costly habit too.

Thank God for the iPad.

Zinio for iPad

More and more magazines are jumping onto the digital print bandwagon. A highly commendable move, because not only that it’s cheaper to run, it’s also more conducive to the environment. Less trees need to be chopped down for our glossies needs. I’m very happy about this, because with Zinio for iPad (magazine app), I get to subscribe to international fashion magazines for a mere fraction of the cost.

As an example, it costs about AU$69 for an annual subscription of Marie Claire Australia. On Zinio, an annual subscription to digital issues of Marie Claire US is about AU$10.12, which, in total, is just slightly more than a single issue of Marie Claire Australia. The cover price of frankie (an Australian mag) is AU8.95. On Zinio, you get 3 digital issues for AU$14.95. I could go on, but you get the picture.

Other than Zinio, there are dozens of standalone magazine apps like Glamour, Vogue UK, even Australia’s Shop Til You Drop (paper issue AU$7.80, digital issue AU$6.99. Although I still shouldn’t advocate this, since the digital print price is only very slightly less than the paper version). Not just interested in fashion mags? There are plenty of tech, nature, lifestyle, travel, etc magazines out there. One of my favourite magazines is the National Geographic Interactive. Highly recommended if you have an iPad.

You don’t have to bring any books with you when traveling because you can, literally, bring ALL of your magazines with you on your iPad. Now that’s convenient, plus it will save you luggage space.

Zinio Marie Claire

So if you do have an iPad and love your magazines, I highly recommend switching to digital prints instead. It’ll save you the clutter, save you some money, and save some trees too.

Note: This is not a sponsored post, nor am I affiliated with Apple, Zinio or any of the magazines mentioned. I wish.

My Top Ten Makeup Products

This is my since-everyone’s-doing-it-I-must-do-it-also list of top ten makeup products I love. Despite the crazy amount of makeup I have (more so on blushes, which I have to do an updated post on soon), these are the items I use most often, in no particular order.

Chanel Vitalumiere

Chanel Vitalumiere Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 – I know I didn’t have this for long, but it really was love at first sight (more like love at first touch). Incredibly light on the skin, especially for my oily T-zone.

NARS Deep Throat

NARS blush in Deep Throat – This is my #1 blush to go to. Its very subtle shimmer on beautiful coral makes this so very easy to wear. For me, it beats the Orgasm by a mile.

MAC Studio Fix Compact=

MAC Studio Fix compact powder (NC30) – Even though I’m not a fan of MAC products, I really like this powder (as you can tell. Hit pan, baby!). Controls the oilies on my T-zone without looking too powdery.

Make Up For Ever Super Matte Loose Powder

Make Up For Ever Super Matte Loose Powder – Very fine-milled powder, finishes my foundation very well.

TheBalm Down Boy

The Balm Down Boy blush – This was a gift from the beautiful ladies at So Loverly. I have warm-toned skin, so pink blushes (or anything with pink/red tones) don’t look very good on me. Somehow this just works. One of my top favourite blushes.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Too Faced Shadow Insurance – No other eyeshadow primer does a better job on my super oily eyelids than this. The Urban Decay Primer Potion’s too runny for my liking. With this on, my eyeshadows stay put for hours.

Benefit Cream Eyeshadow in Skinny Jeans

Benefit cream eyeshadow in Skinny Jeans – I know it doesn’t look like I use this much (hard to do, since I have so many eyeshadows), but this is my go-to eyeshadow when I want to do the easy smoky-eye look. Easily blendable, and it doubles as an eyeliner too. Remains crease-free for hours. Love the gorgeous pewter.

Sephora Lipgloss in Hot Coral

Sephora lipgloss in Hot Coral – Out of my 8914234 lipglosses which I could never ever finish, this is my #1 evening lipgloss. I’ve not tried any other lipgloss which could give me that beautiful dark coral gloss which is not sticky. I have yet to find a suitable dupe for this, with the same consistency.

Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour Neo

Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour Neo mascaraVal introduced this to me ages ago (in fact, that was how we met. She recommended this mascara to me, asked me if I could help get her a couple of tubes on one of my trips to Malaysia. And the rest is history). I had never used any mascara that has a comb for a wand instead of a brush, so this was something new. It’s the best mascara I’ve encountered so far for short, sparse lashes. The volume and intensity of the mascara are amazing. A bit difficult to remove, I’d admit, but the results are worth it.

Chanel Rouge Coco in Organdi Rose

Chanel Rouge Coco in Organdi Rose – a 30th birthday gift from Legeeque and SY. I’ve been wanting this ever since I saw the review on Temptalia, but I was too cheap to get it. Absolutely love the colour and texture of the lipstick. My most luxurious lippie so far.

Top Ten Makeup Products

There you go, my top ten makeup products. I’m actually glad I did this; it’s good to know that there are still pieces of makeup I go back to again and again. It’s like shopping in my stash once more.

I would love to know what your top ten makeup picks are. If you do blog about it, do share your link with us in the comments.
