Holiday Shopping Haul, Part 1: Malaysia

In this post, and the next few posts to come, you’ll be getting a peek into my crazy shopping haul. It’s crazy because I think I really overdid myself this time. To tell you the truth, I’m somewhat embarrassed to show you what I bought. You’ll know what I mean when you see the pictures.

Okay, let’s get on with things. First of all, here’s what I bought when I was in Malaysia.

Malaysia Haul Sept 2008

From left to right:
1. Eucerin White Solution Whitening Extra Treatment Fluid SPF 40
2. Bioessentials Aromatherapy Peaceful Sleep natural air freshener
3. Biotherm Celluli Laser (recommended by a friend; hey I’d try anything other than exercise to zap that orange peel)
4. Bioessentials Aromatherapy Orange Blossom pure floral water
5. Biore UV Daily Care Gel
6. Revlon ColorStay Makeup with SoftFlex SPF 6 in Nude
7. Six bottles of Cellnique Pro Sebum Gel
8. The Body Shop’s body mist in Apple Blossom
9. The Face Shop Quick and Clean Oil-Free Blemish Balm
10. Skin Food Aloe Sun BB Cream SPF 20 PA+
11. Evian facial spray
12. ROC Minesol 30 cooling atomiser (sunscreen spray)
13. Skin Food Cucumber Soothing Mask Sheet
14. Vaseline Lip Therapy lipbalms (plain and cherry-flavoured)
15. The Face Shop eye shadow in WH001 (white)

The reason I bought so many bottles of Cellnique’s Pro Sebum Gel was that I ran out of it when I was in Melbourne. This time, I thought I’d stock up on ’em. This should last me a year and a half. It’s sad that my skin is so dependant on the product (it keeps me from breaking out), if not I would have saved RM834 (they were priced at RM139 per bottle. Very expensive indeed) on those alone. Sigh.

I’ve always wanted to try BB (blemish balm) creams ever since I heard about it here in Melbourne. Unfortunately, Korean cosmetics are a lot more expensive here compared to what I could get in Malaysia. So far, I’m really liking the one by The Face Shop. I’ll do a proper review on that soon.

I also bought a few tops in Malaysia, but they’re currently in the wash. Nothing fancy, just some a couple of tee shirts and a blouse.

That’s it for my Malaysian shopping haul. A lot, huh? There’s more to come in Part 2, where I’ll show you what I bought in the US.

Stay tuned!

I’m Baaacccckkk!!

Yep, I’m finally back from my honeymoon in the US. So much to tell, so many photos to show (I’ve got about a thousand photographs in my external hard disk still waiting for me to go through), and not to mention, the crazy-ass shopping I did!

My apologies for not dropping by your blogs the past couple of weeks. I’ve got over a thousand RSS feeds to read, so it’s going to take me a while before I finally comment on your blogs and also to answer your questions on mine.

I’ll be right back with photos. Trust me, you’ll most definitely want to knock me on the head when you see the amount of stuff I bought. It’s crazy, I tell you :p

Stay tuned!

Yes To Carrots Eye Can C Clearly Now Eye Contour Cream

I first saw the Yes To Carrots range at Target a few months ago. The quirky names of the products intrigued me, and when Priceline started selling Yes To Carrots products at introductory prices with a 15% discount, I thought I’d give the eye cream and hair mask (which I will review very soon) a go.

Yes To Carrots Eye Can C Clearly Now

Description:

You never believed your mom when she said carrots were good for your eyes. Our Eye can C Clearly Now moisture rich Eye Contour Cream will have you believing differently.

Yes To Carrots Eye Can C Clearly Now Without Cover

Let’s start with the texture of the cream. It doesn’t feel light and creamy; in fact, it’s just a tad curd-like. Just a tiny scrape of the cream would do to be applied just below the eyes and on the lids. I’m not really sure exactly what it smells like. It doesn’t smell like carrots, but then again, I’m not a fan of carrot juice so I wouldn’t be too sure.

Did it work for me? I’d say yes, at first. The fragile skin below my eyes felt more taut, although it did not reduce the lines. The skin also felt more moisturised (not as dry as before). But after a couple of weeks of using the cream, the sides of my eyes (where the *gulp* crow’s feet are) started to itch. I can’t be 100% certain that it was due to the eye cream, but when I stopped using it, the itching stopped. Dodgy? Hmm … I don’t know.

Yes To Carrots Eye Can C Clearly Now Close Up

To be honest, I don’t really know what this eye cream is for (yes yes, you can thump me for buying something I know nothing about). It does not proclaim to reduce lines or dark circles, which most, if not all, eye creams do. I’m still hesitant in agreeing it to be a contour cream because I don’t see any physical evidence of contouring. But I will say that it kept the dry skin moisturised.

The eye cream is paraben-free, which is good, isn’t it, given the hype and all that these days. What is also good is that it contains niacinamide, which is also known as vitamin B3. Topical application of niacinamide has been shown to increase ceramide and free fatty acid levels in skin, preventing skin from losing water content, and stimulate microcirculation in the dermis*.

I’m not giving up on this cream just yet. Heck, there’s 50ml of it, which will take me AGES to finish. I shall update you on this product a few more months down the line.

Oh, and when Mum said that carrots are good for your eyes, she meant your actual EYES. Not the skin around it. I’m just sayin’. :p

Yes To Carrots Eye Can C Clearly Now Eye Contour Cream is available at Priceline and Target.

What I like about it: Moisturised the under-eye area; big tub of eye cream at a low price (compared to other brands’ tiny 15-30ml jars).

What I did not like about it: No physical evidence of any contouring as proclaimed.

Beauty Tip of the Day: Colour-Correcting Concealers

Beauty Tip NoteMyth: You need a tinted concealer to colour-correct certain flaws.

Truth: We can see why this seemed like a wicked-cool idea back in 1989, since the colour wheel, green does indeed cancel out red. On your face, however, without expert application, there’s a decent chance you’ll end up looking like the Incredible Hulk. And experts agree: the colour you want in a concealer is the one that most precisely matches your skin.
