Review: Cancer Council Australia Tinted Moisturiser

I’ve heard a lot of Cancer Council Australia sunscreens even when I was in Malaysia, and when Priceline had a 30% discount promotion on their Cancer Council Australia cosmetic sunscreen range, I thought I’d give their tinted moisturisers a go.

Cancer Council Australia Tinted Moisturizer

The tinted moisturiser provides a natural-looking complexion, and contains UVA and UVB sunscreen filters for broad spectrum SPF30+ skin protection. It’s very light and non-greasy, and is very similar to my Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser. In fact, it’s just as good, with a even higher SPF, at a much lower price.

This works well as a makeup base, or worn on its own giving an evened out skin tone. Once my Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser is finished, I’m sticking to this one.

Cancer Council Australia Tinted Moisturiser SPF 30+ is available in Priceline at AUD11.95. This isn’t shelved with their usual sunscreens though; you’d have to look for it in the sunscreen cosmetics section. I looked high and low for this in different Priceline stores, when it was right under my nose in the cosmetics section the whole time. Sheesh.

By purchasing Cancer Council Australia sunscreen products, you help to fund cancer research, patient support and education. You get protection from the harmful sun rays and you get to do good. Talk about killing two birds with a stone, eh?

What I like about it: High SPF, light and non-greasy. Oh, and it’s cheap.

What I did not like about it: No problems with this one. Yay!

Birthday Pressie (And Kiss and Makeup NY Store Review)

Okay, I know, I know, I’ve been flaunting my makeup haul and pressies in your faces for the past couple of weeks, but this is something I got for my birthday, which I want to share with y’all.

I’ve been ooh-ing and aah-ing over Geekchic‘s Nars Habanera duo eyeshadow, and about a week before my birthday, she and another friend insisted that I get a Nars eyeshadow for my birthday. Totally their treat. Awww, this was the first time I’ve actually gotten makeup as a birthday present! Gotta love your girlfriends, huh? 😉

It’s not feasible to buy Nars makeup in Australia, because it’s way overpriced. A Nars duo eyeshadow costs USD32, but over here, its RRP is AUD74, which is absolutely ridiculous. Even if you were to get them on eBay Australia, or other Australian online stores, it’s most likely to cost over AUD50. This was when Kiss and Makeup New York came in.

Kiss and Makeup New York is, you guessed it, a US-based online store. I found out about this from Paris, who found the store for us looking for Nars makeup. So Geekchic transferred the money into my account, so that I could buy it from the store. Sweet! 🙂

I can’t recall the number of times I went to Mecca Cosmetica just to check out the colours which I wanted. They were so pretty, and I simply wanted them all! I had decided to get two eyeshadows, and it was hard work actually confirming my choice of colours. In the end, I chose Habanera and Brazil.

I decided to do a bit of research on Kiss and Makeup New York, did some Googling, and came back with a lot of mixed reviews on a Vogue Australia forum. Some had trouble with very late shipment of the items (some took over a month to arrive), damaged boxes due to bad packaging, bad customer service, etc. Yet there were others who encountered great service and got their items fairly quickly. Since the international shipping rate was a very low USD5.95, I decided to take a shot. I did email the store to request tightly bubble-wrapped packaging because I would not accept the item if it was broken due to poor packaging. I received a curt reply – “We have not had problems with our packaging. Thank you for your order”.

That got me pretty apprehensive about the store, but by that point, I have already placed an order for two Nars duo eyeshadow. I did get a USPS tracking number for the items the next day, which meant that the item was already sent. To my utter delight, the items arrived exactly a week later! The eyeshadows were not individually bubble-wrapped as I’d hoped, but the padded envelope was small enough to keep the items pretty tight together. The powders for the Brazil got a bit loose, but the pan was overall intact.

Okay, now that I’ve gotten my story out, on to the pictures.

I also received a free sample of Mario Badescu’s Ceramide Herbal Eye Cream. According to the store reviews, you get samples with every order. That’s pretty good, considering the low shipping fees as well.

So yeah, I’m very happy with the eyeshadows, and will be doing a proper review on them very soon.

Geekchic and SY, thanks very much for the lovely girly gift. I love it! 🙂

Just Felt Like It

Spring Girl
Ugly watermark present because I’m too cheap to buy stock images.

1. Mood: Morning-cranky, as I just woke up.

2. Lips: Dry. Where’s my Vaseline?

3. Fragrance: Tine’s Eau de Toilette. In other words, I smell like me :p

4. Food craving: Char Koay Teow (my Mum always buys me Char Koay Teow every Saturday morning. I know it’s not Saturday, and I’m not in Malaysia, but that doesn’t mean I don’t miss the lovely, greasy aroma. Mmmmm …)

5. Makeup craving: Nars eyeshadows. Oh, and lippies by Benefit. Professional makeup brushes would also be nice (yeah, like I’m a pro. Still, they’re so pretty). And a train case. And many many many many more.

6. Theme song: Pump It by Black Eyed Peas

7. Nail polish: None, because I can’t stand ’em on my fingers.

8. Hair: Poofed and frizzy like the lion’s mane. I haven’t given my tough locks a good ironing yet this morning. Oh for fine hair.

9. Shoes: Big Kahunas (Tee hee hee!)

10. Goal of the day: Finish up the huge load of laundry I have today, and do a proper review of a particular beauty product I’ve come to love. And exercise.

What’s yours?

Pressie Time!

I just love receiving presents, don’t you? This came in the mail a couple of days ago.

Gift

It’s a present from a lovely friend in Malaysia. The makeup isn’t new, but it’s hardly used. I absolutely do not mind, because to me, it’s new! I feel like a little girl playing with Mummy’s makeup :p

It’s a great way of decluttering your makeup collection. You can either give some away to friends, or have a swap party. Either way, you go home with “new” makeup to play with. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Thanks very much for the lovely pressie, my dear. I really appreciate the sweet gesture. I’m having so much fun with my new makeup! 🙂
