Get Me New Glasses

Eyeglasses

For the past year, I have broken three pairs of spectacles. THREE! Talk about clumsy, eh? I actually broke one which I wore for about a couple of weeks on the day I was leaving for Australia. Thanks to some unforeseen circumstances that the flight was delayed, I managed to rush back to the shop, get it fixed within a half hour, and out with a spanking new pair of glasses.

Glasses aren’t cheap in Malaysia. There’s always the cheap plastic frames for students with plasticky lenses, which, more often than not, looks pretty rubbish. As for the rest, no matter how cheap the frames turned out to be, the sales assistants always try to sell you expensive lenses. I always choose the least fuss, plastic lenses to ensure my glasses to be as light as possible.

Unfortunately, in the end, they always turned up to be pretty expensive. When you start adding in the multicoated film, making your lenses high index, etc, it all adds up. I wouldn’t mind me something cheap, like an $ 8 Zenni Optical Rx Eyeglasses though. At least this way, I know I won’t have to feel so bad if I do break it again.

Which I’m certain I will. Again. Tsk tsk tsk.

Fendi Paint-Your-Own Baguette Tote

What do you think about customising your own bag? Nope, I don’t mean accessorising it with knick-knacks, scarves, keychains, etc. I mean actually DRAWING on your bag.

Fendi 1

Fendi introduced the Paint-Your-Own Baguette Tote. The bag comes with a coated canvas, an acrylic double-F logo on the front (Fendi wouldn’t be Fendi without it) and ten Pantone Universe marker to create your own design on the bag.

Sacre bleu! Such a blasphemy on beauty, I tell you.

Now I don’t know about you, but at USD1300, no markers, pens, grimy fingers, etc are even coming NEAR my bag. Why ruin a pretty white bag? Tsk tsk.

Sorry Fendi luv, it’s a definite NO for me.

NARS at Mecca Cosmetica

It was 38C, without a cloud in the sky. Armed with a bottle of water, I walked 30 mins to Chadstone (and 30 mins back). It’s funny how I’d actually do it here, because I wouldn’t be caught dead walking for 5 mins under the hot sun back in Malaysia, but I’d gladly do it here.

Seriously, what the @#$% is wrong with me?!

Anyhoos, as I was doing a bit of *ahem* window shopping in the shopping centre, I stepped into Mecca Cosmetica.

I finally saw NARS, and after hearing so much about NARS blush in Orgasm, I figured I had to try it out. A lady in blue attended to me (at that time I didn’t think as to why she wasn’t in uniform as the rest of the staff), got me on the stool, and gave me a LOT of makeup tips, especially on how to play around with colours to get the most out of my olive skin.

Mecca
Uh-oh. Gave in to temptation, didn’t I?

She recommended that I do not use Orgasm, as the colour wouldn’t really play well with my skin tone. Just to be sure, she tried it on me, and true enough, I couldn’t see much of a colour on my cheeks. She actually put quite a lot to show me, but all I saw was shimmer. She said that contrary to how popular the colour is, it does not suit everyone, and I have to agree with her. It just looked like a whole lot of shimmer on me, and I was, sadly, rather disappointed.

Love the packaging

In the end, she suggested I tried the orange. And seriously, it was really ORANGE. My face must have given my look of horror away as she quickly added that it would look really good on my olive skin, because you’d want the colour to bring out the radiance of your cheeks, of your face, instead of hiding it. With that, she even added an equally-if-not-more ORANGE lipgloss!!

Mecca Nars
Oooooh dig in already!

At that point, I just thought, fine, just let her do it, if I look like a doll, I can just remove it later. All she did was circular sweeps of the blush on the apples of my cheeks, mixed the orange lipgloss with some clear gloss, applied it on my lips, and when she showed me the mirror, it was such a transformation. I looked positively radiant; the colours weren’t as they seemed on the outside, and frankly, I looked great! :p

A tip for making sure lipgloss stays longer on your lips – apply the gloss on your lips (mix it with some clear gloss if the colour’s too opaque), and use 1 ply of tissue, press your lips together, press the tissue lightly on your lips, and sweep some loose/compact powder on the lips. The powder seeps through the porous tissue, and sets the gloss.

Very orange, but what you see doesn’t even come close to what you get

Pretty cool, huh? You can tell that I was sold. At AUD110 (that’s AUD50 for the lipgloss, and AUD60 for the blush), that would be the MOST I’ve ever spent on such little amount of makeup, but the colours were absolutely gorgeous, I couldn’t help it! Anyways, I’ll do a proper review on it soon. I’ve tried them out, and my my, it was worth every dollar I paid. Anyways, more that soon 😉

Oh, and I found out from the cashier, that the lady who was giving me the makeover, and all those makeup tips and colours of the season and all that, was actually an international makeup artist from NARS, from the UK, doing a bit of a visit in Melbourne (for the Melbourne Fashion Festival, maybe?). Lucky me :p

Good Find

Finally headed to the city after nearly a month here. You’d think I’d have gone earlier, eh? I have absolutely no idea why I didn’t go earlier; I remembered my first trip here, I headed to the city on the third day!

I’ve forgotten why I loved the city in the first place. Sure, it’s busy as hell (first thing that went through my mind when I came off the train – “damn, don’t nobody work here??” … No snarky remarks about me not working now ;)), but I enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city. Guess I’ll always be a city girl at heart.

Oh, and another reason?

Femme Connection Dress

I got this for AUD20. At 50% off the original price.

I simply LOVE the colours. The turquoise band just below the bust is actually a satin ribbon which ties around the back. The straps are also adjustable so at least it wouldn’t look as though I’d be spilling over (as if there are anything to spill over in the first place *hmph*).

I like, I like!

More often than not, clothes in Australia are overpriced. You’d be paying a pretty penny (or cent) for a decent piece, check out the label, and voila! Made in China! :p
