LMFF 2013: Beauty Q&A with Megan Gale

When I found out I was going to have a one-on-one interview opportunity with Megan Gale, I was shaking in my boots. Oh yes, I was beyond chuffed because I’m such a fan of the lady, but I was so nervous at the thought of even speaking to her. For international readers who aren’t sure who Megan Gale is, you can read all about her here.

There was stuttering. There was shaking when I opened my mouth to speak to her. I’m just glad I didn’t drop my voice recorder when I was asking the first question. But really, she’s such a lovely person and so easy to talk to that I relaxed very soon after. πŸ™‚

Megan, thank you so much for agreeing to answer some beauty questions I have for you. Before I start, may I just say, I’m a huge fan and am feeling mighty starstruck now.
[laughs embarrassedly] Oh stop!

How do you keep yourself looking fresh and alive the very next day after a long day and/or night out?
[laughs] Fresh and alive! Look, there are a lot of things. I love all these hair and beauty trends that I get to play with, and makeup artists use me as a canvas. But when I’m done working, I think it’s very important to look after your skin so I wash my face, I cleanse, I moisturise. I drink lots of water. If I have time, I like to have a nice, long relaxing bath. Getting enough sleep is also very important because when you look after youself internally, it reflects externally.

Doing all those things and having a healthy diet is also very important. I recently quit sugar; it’s been 7 weeks! It’s from Sarah Wilson’s I Quit Sugar program. It’s like a movement happening; I love it! It was really difficult when I began but it really reflected well on my skin. I’ve never really had bad skin because I have to look after my skin due to my job, but I found that my eyes are a bit brighter and the texture of my skin has improved with more clarity.

Were there any beauy mistakes you’ve made in the past? (e.g. overtweeze brows and created holes). What are they?
I had a makeup artist on a job when I was 19. She did a Kate Moss grunge look on me with really thin brows. That was the trend back then. She tweezed them to death! This was back in Perth when I’ve just started modelling. Eyebrows are really hard to grow back and I’m really glad mine did. That was something that was not great.

In terms of faux pas makeup, I’ve been really lucky because when I first started experimenting with makeup (that was when I started modelling), I had great makeup artists who helped guide me along the way. So I haven’t done anything I’m particularly embarrassed about. I’ve been really lucky!

You have such amazing skin people would love to have! If you could just share one skincare tip to a complete skincare n00b who also wants beautiful skin like yours, what would it be?
Thank you! I think, try to keep it really simple. Don’t overclutter your face. With that I mean, don’t do a heavy eye or a really strong lip colour and lots of lashes because that’s just overkilling it. Keep it simple; accentuate your lips or your eyes. Pick a feature and highlight it.

Going back to what I said before, just really look after your skin. Makeup is great but it will only look beautiful if you have a good canvas to work on. Cleansing, prepping and hydrating the skin, eating the right things really help.

I find that if I exercise regularly, my circulation is going through my body, I sweat and get the toxins out. This is also another part of my beauty regime. It contributes to the appearance of the skin.

With your busy lifestyle, do you take time out to pamper yourself with facials and massages? Which is your favourite spa? I promise not to stalk you there! πŸ˜›
[laughs] The thing is, I get to do that for my job. For some women, it’s like “oh I’m going to get a manicure or pedicure” and they have to do it to maintain them, but for me it’s a perk in some sense because pampering is part of my job. I have to be on top of it in terms of maintenance. At times, I don’t want to stay at the hairdresser’s while I’m getting my hair coloured for over 3 hours because I’ve got other things I’d probably rather do. But for my clients, I have to be the best that I can, which means I really have to be on top of it.

I don’t have just one favourite spa but I’d say one of my favourites is a wellness retreat, which is Gwinganna in Queensland. It has an amazing spa and it’s a really beautiful place.

LMFF 2013: Beauty Q&A with Megan Gale

Unfortunately, I only had 5 minutes of one-on-one Q&A with her, so I wasn’t able to ask her 3 more questions I had prepared. Questions that were a lot juicier than these! Note to self: in future, start with the juicy/interesting questions first!

Thank you, Megan, for answering my questions! It was fun having you on Beautyholics Anonymous! πŸ˜€

WOW Megan Gale is so tall, you both look absolutely amazing. I am a little star struck just reading it, so proud of you Tine! You did so well, I would have been so nervous.

Megan has always come across as very open and friendly, what a lovely interview πŸ™‚

Thanks so much Kaye! I was SO nervous. Thank goodness Megan was so lovely, which quickly eased my nerves. All I could think was “don’t stutter, don’t stutter, DON’T STUTTER”. πŸ˜›

Megan always seems so nice in the interviews she does – I really like the answers she’s given here… I’m not sure if I could give up sugar completely though – I tip my hat to her!

Oh I know, right? I loved her on Can of Worms and she’s always fantastic on interviews. I asked her if she found it hard to quit sugar and she said the first week was very bad. Then you get used to it.

I bought Sarah Wilson’s I Quit Sugar book a week before LMFF. I really do want to give it a try. My dad had health issues a couple of years ago (pre-diabetic), and he quit sugar (minimising on carbs as well). His health went from bad to very good in less than a year. Lost heaps of weight. Good motive for us to try it out too πŸ™‚

I think she’s right – I don’t have sugar in my coffee (used to till ~2006 long story lol! ;)) and one quickly gets used to it not being there. You tend to taste the flavour of things more….

Having said that I love my dessserts! πŸ˜›

I haven’t heard of the I Quit Sugar book but have read one called – I think – Sweet Poison. Very interesting stuff. Good luck on your no sugar journey! πŸ™‚ I think I would still eat natural sugars (e.g. piece of fruit) mangoes would be just too hard for me to give up, for example lol! πŸ˜‰

I don’t think I can ever give up desserts though. It’s like cutting off my right arm or something. I NEED my desserts. Chocolate. Mmmmmmmm…. πŸ˜›

You did well to get a few questions in – I’d be speechless!

Megan looks amazing, but you do too!

  6. Niva

Congrats on the interview! It must be so hard to interview a mega star! But I’m sure you did an awesome job. And kudos for the outfit too! You succeeded in looking good next to a supermodel! πŸ™‚

    1. Tine

Thanks Niva! It was at first. Nerves, y’see. Got better halfway. I stopped stuttering halfway through the interview.

BAHAHAHA no really? Aww bless your cotton socks. πŸ˜›
