Review: Clinique Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief

I don’t know about you, but I have not had a good relationship with night creams in a long time. They were often too thick and rich for me, which made my face even oilier in the mornings. Until I discovered Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief.

Photo taken from Strawberrynet. I couldn’t take a picture of my own as I had just depleted my supply.

Description:

Boots skin’s moisture level
Restores the skin’s balance
Comforts, softens & smoothes the skin
Plumps up fine dry lines
Oil-free & 100% fragrance free
For all skin types

I’ve been using this moisturiser as a night cream for the past 3 months, and it is, by far, the best night cream I’ve used. As night creams are richer than day creams, most night creams caused my skin to break out. I have combination skin, with a very oily T-zone, so I cannot have rich creams on my face. So even though it says that it’s for all skin types, I think it works better for those with combination or oily skin.

The Moisture Surge comes in the form of a gel, which is great for combination/oily skin. It has a lovely cooling effect on the skin and keeps my skin matte. This can also be used as a mask; just slather a generous amount of gel onto the skin, leave it on for a few minutes, gently massaging the gel in. Finish off by blotting the excess gel with a tissue.

It worked very well for me, especially in the cold and dry weather. The moisturiser kept my skin properly hydrated despite the fact that it wasn’t a rich cream. Too bad I finished the last drop of the moisturiser last night. Time to get a new one!

Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief retails at USD34 in the US, which you can get online. As usual, it is bloody overpriced in Australia, selling at AUD60 (available at Myer). I decided to save some money and ordered it on Strawberrynet instead for AUD42.50 (RM125.50). For my Malaysian readers, I’d suggest you to get this at Malaysian airports, as it is not only cheaper, but you also get better deals (especially the limited edition travel versions) with other products of the same range.

What I like about it: Not too rich, yet kept my skin properly hydrated. Does not leave any oily residue, and has a nice cooling effect on the skin.

What I did not like about it: Nothing. I love it!

It’s In, It’s Finally In!

Ladies, since this is a women’s blog, and I’m assuming that most, if not all, of my readers are ladies, I shan’t be shameful nor think it’s too much information to divulge this – today would be the very first time, in the 17 years after I became a lady, that I managed to use a tampon SUCCESSFULLY.

God, this is embarrassing.

Look, it’s not that I haven’t tried before. I remembered asking Mum for tampons when I was 12 years old, and she whispered to me.

“Girl, I only started using them after I got married”.

“Huh??”

“You’ll know what I mean when you grow up.”

Err okay. Anyways, I tried it years back with Tampax, and it didn’t work. The ones with the applicator thingies? Useless little buggers. They just wouldn’t go IN.

I got so frustrated, wasted a pack, and went back to my usual ultra-thins.

I found Moxie at Priceline today, and thought I’d give it go just one more time. And if it doesn’t work, oh well, at least I can keep the pretty tins.

Moxie Regular

So cute, right? You wouldn’t even know there are tampons inside.

So yeah, today is marked as a day in history, that Tine finally got her tampon in 😛

PS: I hope I didn’t gross you ladies out with this entry. If I have, erm, aren’t you a girl too? :p

PPS: For those who use tampons, err, is it supposed to be uncomfortable when sitting?

Another Surprise In The Mail

Guess what came in the mail today?

Ipanema Flip Flops In Box

When I wrote about the Ipanema sandals I bought a few weeks ago, the good people at Ipanema UK saw the entry, and very kindly offered me a voucher for a complimentary pair of Ipanema flip-flops!

Free Ipanema Flip Flops

This was retailed at 16.99 pounds, and I got it for free. I had to pay a minimal postage and handling fee though (too bad I don’t live in the UK. Or else it’d really be free). Okay okay, so technically, it wasn’t free. I couldn’t recall the exact amount I paid for postage, but I know it came up to a lot less than the price of the similar flip-flops sold in Australia and Malaysia.

And oh my goodness, this is even more comfortable than the original pair I own. Granted, it is a pair of flip-flops, so it makes that flippetty-floppetyy sound when you walk, but I find it so pretty. Too bad the weather’s all wet and cold now, and wouldn’t be able to use this much. Oh well, just got to wait for summer then.

Thank you, Ipanema UK people! You guys certainly made my cold, wet and gloomy day.

My Lumiere and Silk Naturals Haul Are Finally Here

Check out what came in the mail today. My Lumiere and Silk Naturals stash!

Packages

I ordered my stuff from Lumiere Cosmetics a little over 2 weeks ago, and Silk Naturals 2 weeks ago. It was a very pleasant surprise that both arrived on the same day. More for me to play with :p

Lumiere Stash

These are the items I ordered from Lumiere. A set of travel-sized synthetic makeup brushes and the sample kit. The makeup brushes are seriously soft; I spent a few minutes just sweeping the face brush and blush brush in circles on my face because it felt good. Weird, I know.

Lumiere Powders

The sample kit from Lumiere – Cashmere Foundation in Light Medium Neutral, Light Neutral and Light Cool, Veena Velvet Finishing Powder in Light Neutral, Sheer Silk Powder and Veena Blush in Terra Cotta. Only 1/4 teaspoon each sample, but it should suffice since you only need so little per application. Aren’t the sifter jars cute? (even better than the ones by Everyday Minerals)

Lumiere Powders in Packet
Love how the sample kit was packed into a zippy bag. Compact and no mess.

Next, my haul from Silk Naturals. I’m actually pretty excited about this one, as I’ve heard many good things about Silk Naturals’ mineral makeup. Plus, the prices are better than Lumiere, Everyday Minerals and Signature Minerals.

Silk Naturals Stash

Instead of coming in separate jars of foundation, the introductory foundation sample kit consists of a few colours in separate baggies and white foundation which you mix and experiment on your own until you find the perfect colour. A sifter jar and mixing spoon is provided. Oooh, project!

Silk Natural Powders

The sample kit from Silk Naturals – Perfecting Powder, Sheer Blush in Climax (this is apparently a clone to NARS’ Orgasm) and Flirt, and Under Eye Concealer (Sleep In A Jar).

Oh and they threw in two extra samples as well – Sheer Blush in Tart Light and an Eye Color in Scallop Pink. Sweet!

Can’t wait to get started on these. Stay tuned for the reviews 🙂
