Taaz Online Makeovers

I stumbled upon an online makeover site yesterday, and I have to say, I’m pretty psyched about it. It’s called Taaz (weird name, I know).

Taaz

It is by far, one of the best online makeover sites around because of its remarkable details and accuracy to all the features of your face. If you do it properly, the changes are pretty accurate. Just upload a photo of yourself (your hair has to be up though) and get started!

You can change your skin tone, add foundation, concealer and blush. You can even change your eye colour with different coloured contacts provided by FreshLook. Great way to finally find out how blue eyes work on you, huh?

There are also different styles of eyeliners, mascara, and even recommends the brand of eyeshadow and blush which you select – eg MAC, Stila, NARS, Revlon etc. The colour wheel represents an actual colour of a real product, which you can check out on yourself before even buying it.

Taaz Colour Selection

As for the mouth, other than adding lipstick, liner or gloss, you can even whiten your teeth!

I spent almost two hours playing with this, and it was a lot of fun changing my look. I’ve contemplated trying on coloured contact lenses before, and now that I’ve actually “seen” myself in gray lenses, I’m now really tempted to get myself a pair. The eyes look pretty haunting. Tee hee :p

As all online makeover sites go, I’d still suggest you to take it with a pinch of salt though because there is not blending option on the website, so it might look a bit too much (I tried NARS’ Exhibit A on my picture, and I ended up with two orange blotches on my cheeks! This is so not the case with the real blush). This also should not stop you from actually checking out the real thing for yourself. That’s the fun of (window) shopping, no?

I highly recommend y’all to give this site a go. I mean, heck, you can already see how excited I am about the site. You’d be amazed at how accurate (if you follow the instructions carefully, of course) the results are on you. If not, then just for fun, eh?

Makeup/Skincare Don’ts

Spilt Nail PolishI nicked this tag off Beautychick101‘s blog. I enjoy reading what products work for others and what they do to stay healthy and beautiful, but it’s not everyday that we reveal OUR makeup or skincare boo boos. After all, we’re only human, right? So I thought I’d have a little fun with this.

My Five Must-NOT Have Items
1. Nivea skincare products – I could be generalising here, but so far, NONE of the skincare products (except for the body lotions) by Nivea works on me. My skin breaks out easily after using Nivea products. I really don’t understand why.
2. Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum – This did nothing for me at all. And now I’m stuck with a white elephant in my cupboard. Does anybody want to take this off my hands? For free?* :p
3. Cocoa butter – I know this is good for the skin, but I steer clear of this because I cannot stand the smell of cocoa butter. Once, when I was in Japan, I applied this before heading to work, and my colleagues commented that I smelt bad. Ugh.
4. Nail polish on my fingernails – I love a good pedicure, and pretty coloured toemails, but I can’t have nail polish on my fingernails. I spent ages putting it on only to end up smudging them later. I could never be able to paint them on nicely, and 5 minutes later, they’d be chipped. It’s frustrating, I tell ya. That was the reason I wore gloves the whole time at my wedding. No need for lovely manicures which I’m sure to muck up.
5. Bright blue eyeshadow – I did a stint of this when I was in Japan. Just smacked the blue on my lids, with hardly any blending. Looking back the photographs, it looked positively GHASTLY with my washed-out face. Now I stick to very subtle blues, or mix it with a little shimmery yellow to soften the colours. Geez, what was I thinking back then?!

My Five Biggest Makeup/Skincare Crimes
1. Over-tweezing my eyebrows – this is a big boo boo of mine. I can’t seem to keep my itchy hands off my brows, and more often than not, I over-tweeze one side. Pathetic attempts on salvaging the other side to match the mucked up side just makes everything worse.
2. I’m pretty lazy with eyecreams. I have loads of ’em, but I always forget to apply ’em. One day it’s on, five days off, oops-I-forgot-about-it, put it on again. Etc etc.
3. Lack of care to my feet – I’m terrible at this. I know I should apply foot cream on my dry and cracked heels every night, but I’m just too bone-lazy to do so. My poor feet screams of dryness all the time.
4. I put sunscreen on my face religiously, but not on my arms and legs *gulp*
5. Sometimes I pick at my blackheads when I’m bored – this is a huge NO NO, people. As much as you can, leave the blackhead removal to the professionals.

Now I’d like to know what Paris, Beetrice, Geekchic, Fashion Asia and Pretty Beautiful are going to reveal about their own makeup/skincare mistakes 😉

*I’m afraid I can only send this to you when I’m back in Malaysia in September as I don’t have it with me right now. If you’re interested, just give me a holler, and I’ll get back to you on this.

More Good Finds

Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t believe in spending a lot of money on the latest fashion that would probably go out of season in a few months, and MIGHT come back in a few years (or not. Begone for good, you shoulder pads!) I do believe, however, in investing on classic pieces like a crisp white shirt, a good pair of jeans, etc.

Anyhoos, I digress.

Today is about more good finds which I managed to get when I was in the city a couple of weeks ago. They were at 50% off the original price (yay for me).

Red and Black Top
AUD12.50

Green and Blue Top
AUD6 (sweet!)

Now these aren’t the tops I’d normally wear, but for some reason the psychedelic colours attracted me. I really like the second one (love the colours).

I wore these with calf-length leggings. Now I know this doesn’t suit everyone as it tends to make people look stumpy. But funny enough, I looked pretty good in it :p The black leggings made my legs look slimmer and somehow the top was flattering on the figure. Oh, and I bought the leggings for only AUD9, so no complaints there.

This look (wearing a longish top with leggings) was actually an IN thing back in the 90s. I remembered wearing something like this to church when I was about 12. Give it a good decade or so, and the fashion returns.

I’m just praying hard that shoulder pads never, EVER come back.

The New Beautyholics Anonymous

Behold the new look for Beautyholics Anonymous!

I thought it was time to change the template for this blog. The previous template served me well for almost a year, and I really love the pink and black colour combination, but I reckoned it was time for some changes.

Old Blog Screenshot
Old template (click to enlarge)

I took a ready-made template from Geckoandfly and modified it to suit my taste. All the images used in the template is actually taken from Microsoft’s Clipart and modified them using Photoshop. I actually came up with three headers before deciding on this one. Fickle, thy name is also woman :p

The sidebar remains the same. I’ve added a few tabs at the top of the posts for easy access (also tidied up the blogroll which used to be on my sidebar). It was also time to update the About Me page, so do check it out. And more importantly, I’ve added my favourite colour – PURPLE! I think it looks neater than before. I think. Hmm …

Anyhoos, what do YOU think? :p
